Thanks Karl for raising the issue of 482 to 186 PR “phantom pathway”. To me Labor is creating a massive pool of skilled workers being more or less “permanently temporary”. They could’ve removed the grant cap of partner visa and give those spaces to 186. That way, those 186k people would at least have a decent chance for a PR grant, rather than having to wait 2-4 years, fearing all the uncertainty. Let’s hope the new SID visa can change this dynamic.

Hi Karl, As you said, the bar for visa 186 applications don't show the actual waiting time for many metro applicants including myself who already hit the 17 months of waiting time. It's really frustrating and puts a lot of stress on us as we have already passed medical and AFP clearance time which will be causing re-doing all with more and more waiting time and costs. Thanks for bringing this issues up. Great work as always.

@@ailsaustralia looking forward to this discussion next week. re: impact of longer processing times for metro applicants. even with the existing MD 105, metro applicants are already being displaced and pushed out to more than 12 months as regional and new applications with priority occupations are being processed much faster, as early as 3 to 4 months from lodged to finalised. there is nothing holding back those already granted in the regionals to move to metro areas once their PR's are finalised. why not have a separate stream for regionals and priority occupations? be truthful with the visa processing times for those in metro especially those who are already here and contributing.

Hi Karl thanks for the informative video as always! I came to Australia from the UK on a 482 in an IT trade and reliant on Employer sponsorship for PR so I hope that only gets easier or they bring in the self nomination as has been mentioned. One thing i dont agree on though is just because our familes come over with us, they arnt lay abouts. My wife for example works supporting families in the community so regardless of numbers, partners can be skilled also and contribute to society.
@ailsaustralia27 күн бұрын
Absolutely we never said they would not contribute but the issue is knowing how many workers in the skills that we are seeking are coming, not the total number. If we need more in the skills needed then bring more in
@paulchester254327 күн бұрын
@ailsaustralia Sorry my comment was probably worded poorly, I wasn't saying you guys said they aren't skilled I was aiming that more at the govt figures. The numbers don't really represent the amount of Skilled workers that are coming in, a partner of a 482 could be skilled in another area so technically the skilled numbers should be 2 rather than 1 skilled and 1 family. So if they are unable to glean that info then yes absolutely partners and family shouldn't form part of the numbers.

The migration system feels completely broken. I have been living in Australia for nearly 6 years, I am on a bridging visa and unable to access car finance or a mortgage. The mental health challenges this causes as I live as if I am bankrupt, unable to protect myself from rent increases through owning a home, let alone replace my broken car. 482 visa holders in occupation on short term stream , pathway to PR is still dependent on employer nomination, so it's not a true pathway if employer is not willing.. also, how does the pending change in lists impact this?
