She is a wonderful person as well as a phenomenal bass player. We had just missed her performance at the Mayones booth at Namm, but me and my buddy begged her to play. She plugged her bass back in and started messing around. Next thing we know she is really jamming out and a crowd started to gather again! So thank you Mohini for your graciousness in playing again. It was certainly the highlight of our NAMM experience!

I'm surprised she didn't name Larry Graham also as a influence since he created the percussion bass style she loves to play so much?
@thedescanteer4 жыл бұрын
That's because her percussive style is based on the Indian Classical 'Gharana' (school/lineage) which she belongs to. She is influenced by Indian classical percussion instruments and their contemporary masters like Zakir Hussain. She did say this in as many words in the interview. Weren't you listening?
@electric86684 жыл бұрын
@@thedescanteer I know Larry Graham created the percussive bass style irrespective of others variations of it. Don't you know that?
@thedescanteer4 жыл бұрын
@@electric8668 Don't be deliberately obtuse. Her percussive style is rooted in her Indian Classical DNA and the innovations she built on top of that foundation. It is NOT "a variation" of any other bassist's percussive creation, so crediting as such just for the sake of name-dropping and pandering to western ears would be utterly dishonest. Her percussive genius is based on the ancient Carnatic art of syllabic vocalization called Konnakol, compositional formats/devices like Korvai, Hindustani polyrhythmic techniques like Tihais, and so on. And she states all of this quite categorically in the video. Listen from 4:15 to 7:30 again. Carefully this time.
@electric86684 жыл бұрын
@@thedescanteer Obtuse? Obviously what I'm conveying is abstruse to you be it intentional or not. Like guitar there are various ways to play bass. Van Halen created a unique way of playing guitar. No matter what various ways his technique is used by other players it's his creation. That is the same point I'm making about Larry Graham. The technique was created by Larry Graham no matter what type of percussive style, rhythm, tone etc other use with it.Do you understand that or is it abstruse for you?
