I've got two Alice frames, and after watching a video, added more modern Molle II waist belt and straps and the difference is amazing for comfort.

I purchased one of these packs a little while ago with only the standard harness without the extra strapping to fit on a belt. Easily modified with a spare aluminum frame and by using the metal tabs, bolted the pack to the frame. All i need is a kidney belt to allow heavier loads if needed. The original harness on these can fit onto the Austrian combat pack and be used as a light weight pack so great bit of gear to play around with. Top video guys.

Good to hear folks snagging good quality gear on the cheap and modifying it to suit your needs - appreciate it mate! Cheers

ive actually managed to mount this bag to the frame youve shown in this video, mind you there was some extra parts needed (short cuts of paracord and tape) but it is mounted, I just looped the snow covers straps frome the start throug the slits in the top of the frame and used the paracord to basically act as a stopper and the tape as reinforcement, then for the bottom I just looped that through the triangular brace at the base of the frame. mind you this is all very DIY and I havent got too much of a clue how long it will last but the only weak point is the tape and thats cheap enough and if you wrap it tight enough it isnt as obvious. ive found it worked for me and its letting me be able to carry much heavier gear in the pack for longer periods of time

nice, good job! Its a modification I'd highly recommend, many different ways to do it but unless you live in the US, original ALICE packs can often be hard or expensive to procure so these little fellas can fit the bill with a bit of elbow grease

Easy enough to use alice pack straps, though. Use the clips that are on the harness or new ones. That's what I did. And to put it on a frame, I just used some bits of paracord, works fine for me.

could you do a review of the kiwi ALICE pack as well please?
@armyand_Outdoors3 ай бұрын
would love to but we usually only get 'one-offs' in the store, each of which are usually heavily modified. I don't think it is likely we will ever see a large batch of them ever become available for such a video :(

It wasn't issued to go with the US ALICE frame, unless............

Just got one. It is unissued and good quality. Haven't had time to put it through it's paces. I prefer the more traditional backpack designs over the more modern rectangular MOLLE design's so after some basic modifications this pack should be fine.

fair enough, I can respect that! They're hard wearing and very economical for price, what people usually don't like about them is those straps with heavier loads. But for those on a budget or carrying lighter loads, they're a good surplus option

I've had mine for about five years. It works pretty well. The straps get uncomfortable after a few hours on the trail. I modified the straps with more cushioning. It's good.
