Join us as we sample an Austrian breakfast in Vienna, Austria keying in on a Viennese Breakfast (Wiener Frühstück) which included ham, cheese, a hard boiled egg, butter, jam and bread rolls and an Austrian Farmer's Breakfast which included two slices of bread, aged cheese, deli meats, prosciutto, pickles and carrot, egg and cream cheese. For drinks we order a caffe latte and cappuccino.
We spotted this restaurant in Vienna while just randomly walking into town to film our city guide. It ended up being a great find as we both really enjoyed the breakfast meals we ordered.

Austrian Breakfast in Vienna, Austria | Wiener Frühstück (Viennese Breakfast) Food Video Transcript:
Good morning good morning. It is a beautiful Friday here in Vienna (Wien). Yeah, it is. And we're hungry. We woke up with an appetite so we're going to go in search of a typical Austrian and Viennese breakfast. Oh yes, and there is a place we have in mind just around the corner. So let's go there.
We've also noticed there is a big cafe culture here in Vienna so you always see you know the patios, cafes, restaurants they are full no matter what day of week it is, what time it is. People are out brunching and eating. So yeah, that is one thing that I really do like about the city because I like my food.
This is our beautiful street. Just look at that architecture up ahead. The streets in Vienna are stunning.
We made it to the restaurant we had in mind. It is called Wirr. Not entirely sure what that means but they do have a cool menu with alien cats.
We came here a few days ago and we actually had more of a Middle Eastern breakfast. Like Sam had this giant hummus platter. It was so good. With falafel and it had shakshouka and it was really good. Yep. But we also noticed on the menu that they specialize in a Viennese breakfast and they also have a farmer's breakfast. Yes. So that is what we've ordered and yeah it should be coming soon.
I got myself a cafe latte. Nice and milky and frothy. Yeah.
And we've been noticing they sure do good coffees in this city. Oh, they do. Oh my. They do. And Sam got a little cappuccino in a cute little blue cup.
Our Viennese breakfast has arrived. This is the Wiener Frühstück and it comes with semmel which I've already dug into. It is for our Spanish speaking clip we did. Haha. It is just so warm and fresh out of the oven. This is a nice bread and it also came with croissant. We have some ham, some cheese, a hard boiled egg, butter, jam and I can already tell you I am a big fan. This is a typical Viennese breakfast. Yep. This is the Viennese one. Yep. We'll showcase the other one in a moments time. But this bread roll. Oh my gosh. I don't know like we've been in Vienna how many days and we've managed to only discover this bread roll today? How is it possible?
So now let's dig into the farmer's breakfast. Yeah, this poor little plate has been neglected. We've been chowing down on the other one so much.
So we'll give you a little tour. So we've got the nice bread over here. Yeah and it came with two slices. Yes. Two very thick slices of cheese. It looks like aged cheese. And then we have um the egg which I'll be giving to you. This is I think kind of like a carrot cream cheese.
And then of course we have the gurken - the pickles. And then we have something like prosciutto. It does look like deli meats. It looks like really good quality meat.
And price point for that meal? And to wrap things up yeah that came to just over 23 Euro so that included the two drinks and the two mains. So yeah it was a really good breakfast. We'd recommend going there and yeah we're very satisfied. We're very full. But also ready to start the day we're going to go explore more of Vienna (Wien) right now.
This is part of our Travel in Vienna video series showcasing Viennese food, Viennese culture and Viennese cuisine.
This is part of our Travel in Austria video series showcasing Austrian food, Austrian culture and Austrian cuisine.

Why did you do that to the egg? o_O If boiled egg has been served in the egg stand you should just remove the top of the boiled egg with a knife (or break it with a teaspoon), salt an egg and eat it with a teaspoon directly from an eggshell. That would be definitely much more convenient and traditional. )))

How do you eat a Semmel?!?!? The right way to eat a Semmel is: First, you cut it in half, horizontally! Then, you coat it with butter, and then with jam! The final step is, you put your Semmel back together. Now it's ready to eat

Samuel and Audrey - Travel and Food Videos in the U.S., the Semmel is called a Kaiser roll and continental breakfasts are named after the typical Continental Europe breakfast (what you’re eating), as opposed to a breakfast in Britain/Ireland, which is very different.

Old school traditional would be a second breakfast before noon (or first breakfast after on of those hard and heavy nights), called "Gabelfrühstück". Usually consisting of a small warm dish, like Frankfurter sausages, Beuschel, Bruckfleisch or Wiener Gulasch. Best accompanied with a small beer.

"Wirr" means "confused" or "chaotic" The soft egg usally don´t leave the bucket at all, it will be headed or peeled on the top and eaten with a spoon , maybe with a little bit of salt. And a "Semmel" with ham and cheese tastes much better with butter. By the way, you should have tried local dishes like "Tafelspitz" (cap of the rump) with a Glas of local wine, or the local "beef-Goulash" with a Glas of local brewed beer. And there is a version of Schnitzel called "Cordon-Blue" , traditionally breaded like the "Wiener Schnitzel" but with ham and melted cheese as a filling inside. There are other Versions with different fillings as well. Tipps from a "local".
@samuelandaudrey
@samuelandaudrey 6 жыл бұрын
Thank you very much for these tips! Ah, fortunately we did get to do a goulash and beer combo in our next video :) The Cordon-Blue sounds delicious. Like a premium schnitzel.
@michaelgrabner8977
@michaelgrabner8977 6 жыл бұрын
Well, for the different kinds of fillings in the breaded cutlet, I suggest a place called "Schnitzelwirt" in the 7th district of Vienna at "Neubaugasse" (I don´t know the exact doornumber, but it´s somewhere between the crossing "Siebensterngasse" and the crossing "Burggasse" on the left side if you come from "Maria-Hilfer- Straße" turning into "Neubaugasse" They have a really tremendous choice to offer.
@michaelgrabner8977
@michaelgrabner8977 6 жыл бұрын
Well, in most of the private households in the meantime the "Cordon Bleu" detached the "breaded Pork - cutlet" as an "Sunday-meal" The stereotypical "Sunday -meal" was either "breaded pork-cutlet" or "breaded chicken" called "Backhendl" (legs + breast + wings -> the whole thing)" both with potatoe salad. Also "pork-roast" with Sauerkraut and dumplings (either bread- or potato-dumplings) and the good old "Zwiebelrostbraten" with potatoes and green salad. "Zwiebelrostbraten" is mostly a chop with a bit of bone on one side depending which part of the meat is used, a "filet"(no bones) would be also useful) of beef sharply roasted + onions (but gently roasted) + Potatoes (either roasted,too or boiled and served with parsley or rosemary) And last but not least the "Tafelspitz" which is a kind of a "feast" It´s the beef´s cap of the rump and the best kind of meat a cow has to offer, so it´s a bit expensive but sooo good. It´s boiled in a soup (beef broth) together with root-vegetables for hours to become as soft as possible, the piece of meat has to fall apart by entering your mouth without using your teeth. It´s traditionally served with a dip of applesauce mixed with fresh shredded Horseradish and a dip of a spicy creme mixed with chives. There are root-vegetables which were boiled together with the piece of meat in the first place and either creme spinach or creamy cabbage and half mashed but roasted potatoes. It´s a bit expensive, so like the "Original Wiener Schnitzel"(veal) because of the expensive meat, that´s why I spoke of "feast", but undisputed totally worth trying.

"Wirr" means "nuts, crazy, weird, tangled, confused". - And: to eat soft boild eggs, you just peal of only the topic egg shell, but leave the whole egg in the round iron shell dish ("egg holder") served with, and use a little spoon to empty and eat the egg with the warmd yolk inside out of the egg shell!

Audrey boiled eggs served in an "egg cup" you chop the top off then take the teaspoon and eat the egg right out of its shell, don't forget salt and pepper.

The egg is a soft boiled egg, typical in austria, you dont peel it all the way, you just peel off the top and then scoop it out with a spoon and dip bread into it, hence it's in this lil egg holder
