Love your vids man. You are like nuts when it comes to your safety tests. Being into 5"-6" FPV racers and seeing pics of the damage those props do to flesh... you are a brave soul! Granted, folding props are more forgiving, but it's great to see someone really put these drones through their paces like you do. Right on!

Those propellers definitely can chew some skin up. I fly both rc airplanes and drones. The planes have nitro engines and I tell you what I start them with a stick. Yes I have gotten fingers clipped and bled a little but luckily I have all eight fingers and both my thumbs. I keep gauze, bandages, medical tape hydrogen peroxide and triple antibiotic ointment in my field box Yeah propellers and not friendly and accidents happen. I have big respect for nitro and electric powered propellers.

You have to adjust the transmission setting to either 5 or 10 smooth...you might’ve had it on 5-10 HD.

Nope i'ts on the low setting. I went over this in the unboxing and setup. Did the same and I checked the streaming quality setting. It's likely lack of support for my phone which works perfectly with recent DJI products. Hope AUTEL can spend more on DEVICE SUPPORT.

This drone is at the top of my list for my first 107 workhorse drone. When the technology catches up with these amazing and fun drones I can envision a time when a layer of solar panel on the top will extend flying time considerably depending on how efficient they become. Still a ways off though...

Great vid as usual! That is an impressive bird. I wish drones came with 2-3 different color options, the light gray of the Air2s is hard to see while flying, I bet the orange color of the EVO 2 gives the pilot a further line of sight.

Very nice test at the park, I was really impressed with some of the results. I think a lot of us tended to overlook this drone, especially when it was delayed until Spring and than the Mavic Air 2 stole it's thunder a bit. Great review.

Great video review Dustin [as usual]. This quad has a lot that I like about it, particularly the internal waypoint missions. Don't know about the choppy video though but I'll just chalk that up to you using an android phone. I like my Mavic and DJI does lead the pack in many attributes. Oh yes...The flight time [can't wait for the range test] is nothing to shake a stick at either. Let's also not forget the obvious advantage over DJI, no NFZ restrictions.

I use a samsung s10plus for my remote on my autel evo 2 8k. Out-of 100 plus flights I have only had 1 time inhad choppy video feed on my fpv. I restarted my phone and wala. Perfect again. So... my conclusion is...if you have other stuff running in the background on your phone or you haven't restarted it in a while then it might be a good idea to close everything and even clear any cached data so on and so forth and restart phone before flying. I have never had any issue with this because I own an android though 😆. Sounds like an iPhone guy lol. I have heard i phones work best for drone apps...I love my samsung s10 plus for flying the evo 2 though for sure 👍

Nice, with stock antennas does pretty good. Dustin, I have the Evo 2 Pro, you need to add on the Alientech Pro booster. This will eliminate any lag, and greatly increase transmission signal. Plus, that’s about maximum range to retrieve Evo 2 back to launch pad. It’ll definitely go further with Alientech Pro booster setup, but it won’t be a round trip flight. Don’t risk going beyond 5.5 miles, you’ll be running on fumes on return flight. May not make it back to launch pad, 5.3 us about maximum fir a safe return. Good luck! Paul

Great Review Dustin. I love how in depth you go with these drones. It's a drone that I would be proud of owning. All I have is the bugs 4w 4k, for now. But Good Job Brother. Can't wait to see the range test. I've put a U3 memory card into mine and the picture is way better than a class 10. Man, that's an awesome place to fly. I've loved this drone since the first time I saw it. The price is what's making me think about it. I'm not into doing videos, or fly 107. I've always loved to fly for the fun of it. Anyway, The other reason I don't get this drone is because of how expensive the accessories are? Crazy money. I do have a MA2, and now I'm waiting to see what comes out next with DJI. I'll either get the next new drone or the Air S. Depends on what it looks like. Thanks for sharing this video. At that point in the 2nd flight where it seemed to hang up, I saw that your phone had gone into listening mode, and was telling you to talk to it (little microphone on the screen). Not sure if that part of the phone function interfered with the App function. Pretty solid performance ... looking forward to your crazy 'range test' video. Some guys claim having one antenna up and one down works well .. I don't know. I think the furthest I've had my Evo 1 was only a mile, so it really didn't matter. Ha ha .. might want to invest in one of those portable oxygen concentrator devices to give you a better oxygen supply while you're running thru the trees ... ha ha! Mahalo .. stay safe!

I thought I waited until it closed the voice function but that could be it. With the placement of that button on bottom left it's hard not to hit it when holding controller with only left hand. I should disable it in settings. I think exercise is my only hope. That or not talking while I'm jogging and testing drones 😂

@@DustinDunnill I think if you go back and look at that part of the video, you'll see the phone acting up. I agree that the position of those buttons on the back are 'not optimal' and lead to accidental presses. I've seen some guys use 3D printers to make up "O-Rings" that are thick enough, to go around the buttons, so you can't press them unless you go inside the O-Ring. I was kidding about the oxygen concentrator. Maybe you can get a local kid to come to the park with a mini-dirt bike and let them do all the moving around while you track them? I think Autel should have done a redesign of the RC, including fixing those fragile antennas and moving those buttons to a place where they aren't susceptible to accidental presses. Looking forward to the range test. Cheers!

Max useable payload is about 2lb. You need a 3rd party cargo bay though. Just bought one for mapping our mining claims and ferrying ore samples. Highly recommended

Embarrassing story: I forgot my Mavic Air 2 was in sport mode and I tried filming myself and accidentally bolted the drone right at my face. I'm looking at purchasing a drone and came across this video. Great info, great video, but, it leaves me wondering, if this company is competing in the same market as the mavic line, I wonder if they looked at the price point of the mavic air 2? I would think that if the company really targeted the same consumer as the Dji consumer, they would be similar in pricing. Instead, you can buy the mavic air 2 and upgrade to the fly more combo, and buy another drone, perhaps a mavic air mini. Great view there in Hawaii.

The Evo 2 Pro competes most directly with the Mavic 2 Pro with it’s 360 degree sensors. However, the Evo has a newer sensor with higher resolution and fps options, and possibly better low light capabilities, as well as larger batteries which provide about ten minutes of extra fly time on each charge. I guess you would say the design leans more heavily in the commercial use direction, building inspections, site mapping. And I personally appreciate the the high visibility color. Grey drones can get very hard to follow depending on the background.

It landed there because it went into critically low at that point. The stopping confusion on original low battery warning is concerning, you might if haven't already, talk to Autel about that. You know I didn't see the function on your app, but the newest software should give you, I think they call it "smart orbit" where you don't need to o over the target to choose it, but from wherever it is hovering you can choose the target and it locks it for the orbit as it does on the tracking functions, what I've yet to see anyone do is see if that function allows for movement let's call it "orbit/tracking" I really have not had the time to really put mine through it's paces. Another feature I thought I saw someone do was zoom in by pinching making for a smooth zoom as opposed to stepped, which if it wasn't a dream would be very cool.

Well said. I'll be testing out the moving / orbit feature when I do vehicle tracking driving in the forest like I did with Skydio 2. We'll see how it does if it just stops like it did when I did that orbit into the tree then it may be a little frustrating but I'll try it 👍

I could use that feature myself, but again, haven't had time and haven't uploaded to the latest software as there were problems with, but seems like the one you downloaded has bug fixes, maybe it's a further update, I'll have to look into that, then again you did have a glitch, though not a scary one, there have been a couple of flyaways and some out of control stuff. I'll look into the update before I go to sleep and see if it's a further update.

I don't have any of the video lag/choppiness with my Evo 2 Pro, unless flying at long distance or in a high WiFi interference area. I'm not sure why you had this issue. Maybe there is an issue with the phone or cable ?

Awesome review. This is however the only review I have seen where the video feedback from drone to phone is so choppy. If it isn't a phone compatibility issue that's a major issue that needs fixed ASAP.

I think it stopped on the last RTH given it has to compute and figure out power enough to make it back. When these are as low on battery, the drone can do weird stuff. Lots of computations occur, and sometimes the drone emergency lands in that spot if it calculates insufficient power for the RTH.

Dustin, sorry I didn’t see what you had for this setting but the choppiness should stop if you select smooth under settings, image transmission, at the bottom select smooth vs high def for image transmission mode. Also try broadband at 5MHz.

I've been having same issue, it's not limited to the Evo 2 and started happening around May 2020. It appears Autel has not fixed it yet. To resolve I downgraded to last good known V1.1.3.9 from an APK mirror site and disabled the app autoupdate from Google Play. It's not a FPV radio issue, the CPU on the phone is maxing out and throttling hence the stuttering in the feed. The phone will eventually reboot. Tested this on both a Note 8 (Snapdragon 835) and Poco F2 (Snapdragon 865) so not limited to a single device nor an underpowered device. Your other choice is just use iOS as this issue appears to be Android specific. Other thing you can do is unplug the phone and use the inbuilt display as FPV feed and you'll also not see the stuttering issue though you lose functionality of the full app. Very disappointed in Autel.

I think the initial jerky footage we see from the drone is your phones incompatibility on that setting. Saying this after it has settled down, a change in bitrate it gets used to the signal and things smooth out.

Hey Dustin just an FYI....I've flown one with both my old iPhone 8+ & my current iPhone XS & they have ZERO chop in the FPV. It's silky smooth just like my DJI drones for what it's worth.

Waiting for this range test myself. I bought the autel evo 2 after watching your review of the evo1. The range test you did with evo1 was awesome. Now we have a bigger better smarter battery for evo2 and longer range control. I myself have only taken my autel evo 2 8k out to about 2.5 miles in a city near Pittsburgh Pa. Had no issues with video transmission or remote control communication for movements. I know 2.5 miles is only child's play for this drone. I returned from that flight with over 75% battery remaining. So after that small urban range test I flew for another 20 minutes 😆. I bet this drone can go 6 miles before telling you to turn around aka automatic RTH. Im betting you might cancel that message a time or 2 based upon a few other range tests I've seen from you. When I saw this review I was like finally Dustin lol

Only thing I don't like about the Autels is you literally can do nothing but fly it and replace a prop if need be, If you need anything else, you're sending it in and paying for a repair. I have an Autel Evo and recently broke the mount for my camera, contacted Autel and yeah, they wouldn't send me a part to fix even if I wanted to pay for the part. So I said screw Autel and reverse engineered the part and made it out of aluminum on my mill. Almost 2 months later, part is working fine still, zero issues. I see a comment about issues on the drone, I can say my Evo 1, not the 2 like this video is for has no issues, they are costly and they aren't user repair friendly but are decent otherwise.

That would be a stretch, but could you make short video when you fly next to some kind object like i don't know, bench, side of building or something that is not moving and post original video (even for patreons only) ? That would help a lot to verify how useful particular drone is for photogrammetry works (scan of higher part of buildings, clifs etc )

They are the exact same body. The only difference is the cameras and they are interchangeable. Bought the 8k to map our mining claim while we save up for the thermal cameras. The Autel website sells the individual cameras.

Interesting review, and in depth. Were you disappointed with the speed it descended? Only reason is I'm sure it will have software enabled to avoid VRS Vortex Ring State. I was considering buying the Anafi USA or the Evo II, seeing your vid I'm going for the Evo II pro rugged bundle. Any word on Autel heading for the "banned" list like DJI ? It's not hitting us in the UK at the moment. Anyway cheers for the review.

I think the decent speed is fine. Not sure about the ban but since AUTEL is a US company that has their drones built in China it may be an issue soon unless they start manufacturing here in US 🍻

Unfortunate that the FPV is so bad, or I would’ve considered it. Also the props get in the way of the shot which is a little annoying but not bad. I’d probably go for a mavic air 2 instead

I know this is old, but to anyone watching; notice he turned on the controller and then the drone. This reduces the chance of flyaways. ALWAYS turn on the controller first, and then the drone, that way the drone can latch onto the remoter right away, and not possibly some random signal
