Thanks for the podcast. I have a daughter who is bipolar. She just turned 44, so i have many instances of the swings in her life. She and her husband met in high school, married right after, and had their first child 13 months later. They have 5 children and the oldest two are autistic. I worried so much when she would get off her meds. Happened many times. But they've made it all these years because they have love, and her husband understands her condition. They are good parents and the children are thriving. Good luck to you both.

@@dnegspokerI'm really enjoying both of you, but I have to say it was getting a bit heated there at the start. Did you ever feel like you've bitten off more than you can chew with Amanda? Before getting married, did you know that she at times was this bad to the point where you practically have to walk on eggshells when she's in a mood? Or going through pain? Or in a down state/depression? Life is hard enough to live with the opposite sex & make it work let alone with someone who is dealing with so many additional problems that aren't about you, but she blames you anyway. It has to be so difficult. I really feel for you & am pulling for you both, but do you really have what it takes to make it through for the long haul with all this additional baggage? I know how difficult relationships can be without bringing mental illness & all the other issues that are coming up. I sincerely wish you both all the best & see ya around the felt.

Amanda, I totally agree with you that when you are talking to someone, not holding eye contact is so annoying. When someone starts talking to me I stop what I am doing and they get my full attention so they know I am listening. When someone else does differently it is natural to feel they are not listening :)

Had a great conversation the other night and this question was asked, " If you could change one thing on the planet to make it a better place for everyone to live, what would you change ? " I'd be curious of both your authentic answers. Mine was " Accountability ". People need to hold themselves more accountable for their actions and what they say. I genuinely really like this show. Us "unauthentic" people have a story too! I struggle with Bipolar Disorder type 2 and Borderline Personality Disorder. The majority of my adult life has been rejection and depression. I had a choice to make. I could stay bitter and angry and take my moods out on others or I could make sure that I wasn't part of the problem. I want to smile and engage with others. I want to find the best in people and not be afraid to compliment them and lift them up. I don't ever want someone to leave a conversation with me feeling unheard, unloved or unimportant. I don't want anyone to feel the pain of rejection or feel less than because of me. It doesn't make me "unauthentic" it just makes me different than the kind of people you prefer to be around.
@amandanegreanu

Hiding that you’re depressed is very different from what I’m talking about. I have to do that sometimes too. Because you don’t wanna make the people around you feel bad. I even do that with Daniel sometimes, because I don’t wanna rub off on him. I’m talking about the people who have nothing deep to say and it’s all superficial surface level shit. Masking a mental illness is definitely not what I’m talking about. Hope you’re okay. ❤

I don’t want to undermine mental illness, but I believe the strongest cure is to get off social media (inc. Netflix etc), exercise daily, set meaningful goals, and *guess what* work hard. I was prescribed pills years ago and it just staved off the symptoms temporarily, but being in work with responsibilities towards others was the real game changer. That and feeling fit and healthy.

I know it's a farfetched goal but I do want to start something in the future and try solving homelessness in the usa, using the swedish model. It’s fascinating to witness the dynamic between you two. We’ve been acquaintances for many years , but as I listen to these podcasts I feel like I’m getting to know you both so much better. Giving back by discussing difficult topics openly that some of us may struggle to even approach is so inspiring. The addiction segment is deeply moving and shows a sensitivity and awareness that can only be gained by living close to or with an addict. I felt your pain there Amanda. What’s really great is that you combine this with laughter and trivia and that strangely amplifies the significance of the important stuff. It’s going really well and whilst we rarely see each other these days, I’m enjoying this ‘banter’ enormously. You may well gain as much from this as we all will listening to it.

This question is for Amanda. When you’re feeling like the meds are working, is everything is great and smooth but does Bi polar at some point make you feel like those same meds stop working? And it’s a continuous cycle? Until you feel like, this is just how I am, as in, a roller coaster. Also when you were not diagnosed and self medicating , as in, cocaine/booze, were the peeks and valleys more fast paced etc? Would this be a good way to describe that? How did you feel then vs now? Are the valleys and peeks say more standard and not so sudden? I know you said undiagnosed you were more of a risk taker, bad decisions etc, so I’m guessing maybe, there is a healthy bi polar vs an unhealthy bi polar? Also thanks for the laughter and realness that this show brings:) I can tell you keep Daniel in check 😂 That mike Tyson interview was by far the funniest thing I’ve seen in awhile 😅 ✌️

Amanda, I have a question. You talk very openly about your bipolarism and also about your past history with drugs. Do you know or can you recall if you had the bipolar tendencies in your younger years prior to the drug use? I am just curious if all bipolar people are born this way or if the drugs can trigger the chemical reactions to cause someone to become bipolar? Perhaps the bipolar symptoms were/are always there and just lying dormant until they get triggered by the outside chemicals? I'm not judging either way....just curious.
@amandanegreanu
@amandanegreanu Ай бұрын
Good question. I think mine comes from a bit of genetics and environment. It can def lay dormant and something traumatic or drugs can bring it out. I actually wasn’t doing drugs at all when I had my first major manic episode though! It was completely random besides some life stress.

It's FEAR...that is why people struggle with being authentic. Most people can open up and be real when you do that yourself. I agree that nobody has a life only full of sunshine and rainbows. Happiness is only possible with the downs in life. Once again all human beings crave intimacy(vulnerability, honesty, authenticity). This is my truth at least and I have had many great experiences of sharing intimate conversations with others...even complete strangers.

This was uncomfortable to watch, mostly because it's so close to home. My husband and I have been married for 18 years and have talks like this all the time. Thank you for your honesty and sharing

Denial to be honest she literally pissed you off when she said you said all wrong and she made you believe that you did all right 😂😂 that was funny as shit, seeing your face momentarily pissed off 😂

So Amanda lied to make Daniel feel good?

@@tracygarrett3952 No, she concocted the whole exercise to 'expose' Daniel's supposed narcissism. It's a stupid game that women play. Now imagine if Daniel did the same thing to her, how he'd be harangued as an insensitive ahole. He handled it like a champ, but neither one of them realizes it's most likely about her underlying hostility towards men.

he wasn't proud at all... he was playing along with her because she would get upset if he said the game is stupid and refused to play it. kudos to daniel for letting it slide, i'm not sure he would have done that if the camera wasn't rolling. it is exactly like iggy is saying.

I have two thoughts on Tyson's response, first, Amen brother, second, you should always speak truth to children. So many people grow up with this fake happy, happy story told to them and then they are sent out to the real world without expecting the realities that will smack them in the face. Brutal honesty told sympathetically will always be best long term. Would you rather feel everyone told you lies when you learn the truth, or would you rather respect the people who told you the hard truth?

I feel like they should just adopt, I can see going through all of this is going to put a strain on their marriage. Amanda has enough things to deal with, putting this on top may just put her over the edge. Obviously its their decision and I hope I am wrong.

Canadian here, not too smart either Ive observed that the safe injection sites have help stop the spread of things like HIV and Hep C and keep addicts in contact with possible supports but its now its clear the injection sites in their present formst have failed to achieve their objectives. Recently the province of BC has decided to iterate policy and form a new approach to the addiction crisis. I'm hopeful of improvement and agree housing is one of the hurdles that need to be addressed. I do not want to see hotels OR apartment blocks full of addicts and/or recovering addicts. There are better options.
