Allahumma Ameen ya Rabb’Al Al’Ameen Without this coming off as a sob story, alhamdullilah for everything. I reverted alhamdullilah and my family disowned me and my friends didn’t understand. I only had my pooch left, he has been such a comfort alhamdullilah, as sad as that may sound to those who have the basic comforts in life, such as love and care from their family mashaAllah. Allahumma barik lahum. Ameen So when Muslims are telling me to ‘get rid of him’ like he is something just disposed of, forgetting we have a responsibility to take good care of Allah swts creatures and the effects that would have in general, they were oblivious as to the impact that would have made. Alhamdullilah I kept him, I just made it so that I’m careful when it come to salah and always do ghusl before Salah after handling him.

In surah Maidah: 4 God tells us that it is okay to eat what the trained dogs catch (dogs are used in hunting). If the dog is an animal which causes contamination by mere touch, would God tell us that it is perfectly alright to eat what the dog catches with his mouth (let alone just touch the dog)?

Surah Kahf talks about young believers who took refuge in a cave and they also had a pet dog whom they took with them. This dog stayed with them all the time in the cave, and Allah protected all of them, including the dog.

I went to Iran in 2016 with my wife and in Isfahan I met a German couple who had traveled all the way from Europe across Asia into Iran in their caravan. They had their dog with them but told me that they couldn’t let her out. People especially kids would chase the dog away and or throw stones at her if they took her out for a walk, so they had to keep her out of sight from the public. The Islamic Revolution apparently created a very similar mindset as the Wahhabis since a lot of rules were introduced that reflected a Wahhabi style orientation. There were rulings against music, chess, free mixing, dance parties and penalties imposed upon them.

I don't think its so much to do with one specific sect, but to do with sects that developed in Persian areas, including Iran and Iraq. Turkic muslims don't have a problem with dogs so much.

Hadiths that are not consistent with the Quran should in my opinion not be taken seriously. Plus any verse or hadith should be understood taking into consideration the time, place, circumstances, etc under which it was written or said Today we have various personal documents that have photographs attached. If we were to practice that now, angels aren't really coming to any Muslim's house
