Similarly, we have things set up so our son can't go anywhere except an empty hallway at night. I have found him asleep on the floor several times, but that's so much better than the other possibilities. I really appreciate you sharing these sorts of things, it's our normal too.

You are setting boundaries for him and that’s good for any child. He needs to be safe, you need peace of mind and your little girl deserves her privacy. I think it’s great👍👍I’m on the spectrum and my mom always, with lots of love, set boundaries for me to keep me safe and for her sanity too. I know I am very high functioning but I was still a handful growing up. Fast forward and I got married have four kids and twin boys on the spectrum, they are all grown now and I never had a living room, we had a large playroom, and that’s the way I loved it too. I was always able to play with them on their level, lots of fun times. I still get excited when I see toys, and I love swings, the higher I can go the better. I am lucky that I have a husband who always understood me and accepted me for who I am, just like my parents and grandparents did. Our twins are 22 and still live with us, they never had a job and can’t drive, they are great kids who love art and music and that’s their strength, but they still have problems with change and have high anxiety and also OCD, we are trying our best but I have the same problems, you don’t grow out of autism. Your kids are so lucky to have great loving parents.👍👍❤️❤️

Also love the changes in your home! Our house is definitely not the "typical" house either but you can tell it's the kids' safe space!

Yess!! It took us a while to make the appropriate changes to our home, it just makes functioning so much easier and happier :)

We have doorknob covers on all the doors, a fridge lock, and latches on the cupboards too. It may seem extreme to other families not dealing with it, but I totally get it. Zac is an eloper and you always have to be "on" so having those precautions lets us let our guard down a little.

door knob covers would be so good!!! our fridge lock broke, can you suggest a good one??

Awesome changes. I believe you will really be helped by the doors. It is really important to be able to control access to spaces in the home. We also have locking doors for various rooms and spaces in our home. Best wishes!

I love the way you've set out your home. I would love to have a safe and well-made sensory room for my boy. I love the videos, great information, and products. I've searched them so I can help support my little one more.

Thank you so much lovely! literally had to transform the one big room in our house into a sensory space to make everyone a lot happier. We don't have a living room anymore but we like better this way

@Aussie Autism Family you know, I would rather my loungeroom be a sensory room. I'm renting so I can't make the changes I would like to. You're an amazing mother!

Love the changes. I hope it achieves what you need it to. I'm not sure if you have your own version in N.S.W, but in S.A., we have Carer S.A and they have zoom groups that bring in specialists to give advice on all sort of things related to raising asd kiddos. Next week, we have one about dealing with the aggression side of things. P.S an electric knife cut homemade bread beautifully.

Oh thank you Cassie, are you a part of carers SA?
@cassiegodfrey8783 Жыл бұрын
@aussieautismfamily no, it's a resource that South Australia has for all carers, along with Autism SA. I'm part of the carer group called More than the Spectrum. It's for carers of people on the spectrum.

Such gorgeous siblings. What does Jacob’s school day look with activities? What are his goals? Trying to figure what we could do with my boy as he’s all over the classroom and wondering how much academic work we should be giving him. Any ideas would be great. Hope you get some better sleep😴

Jacob's school day is mostly play and sensory regulation with a little bit of learning and table work.

Were you able to get your swing through NDIS?? I know it can be a bit tricky to get certain things. I am thinking of getting one for my child.
@aussieautismfamily Жыл бұрын
Very tricky now that NDIS doesn't allow sensory toys, however speak to your occupational therapist. we did not pay via NDIS
