This is the 3rd time in 3 days Connor has ran away from school. Brittny and I go looking for him and we discuss the next best course of action.

So many videos of bullying, even the teachers bullying them. Teachers don't know how to handle these kids. I'm so glad you found him. Autism parent here and this is my worst fear and been homeschooling sense he was 3.

I’m italian and my son is in the spectrum. Seen by others he is only a bit shy and has difficulty in following activities he does not like much. Anyway his schoolmates though very young (4 years old) are very understanding and just know and treat him as he is, they are also very careful to him e.g. they help him prepare his backpack or put on his coat. Hence I am very surprised in hearing this kid is bullied. I think italian society has a better take on the situation and despite being retrograde in many topics, they actually deal in a wonderful way with kids with anomalies, usually treating them like any other and ignoring strange behaviors. I think it is the better way to treat disabilities and should be like this in any other country

My child hasn't been diagnosed but we have the same issues. I warned his school before enrolling him that he'll run off so they put him in the smallest class with highly experienced teachers. But this is one of my worst fears is that the school will lose him and I wouldn't be able to find him.

@@chefbapo6165 I work with several elopers. This scenario is my worst fear. Parents can get a one on one assistant for their child. It takes some effort but it can be done. Eloping is probably one of the main reasons school district will assign a 1 on 1 for the child. Don't be afraid to fight for your rights in the school district.

I think a special needs school is the best plan for someone with more severe autism or similar conditions bc their safe and can learn things at their pace yes us autistics need to know how to work with Neurotypicals but we also need education and safety

Oh I remember when during recess I tried running away from school because I thought it would be fun and funny. So I was saying bye to my friends and they watched me run off past the stop sign. I didn’t cross the street, stayed on same side of road as the school. All of a sudden I hear the whistle blow and my teacher was yelling “WILL GET BACK HERE NOW!!!!!!!” So she starts sprinting after me, and I ran out of breath because I was laughing and running. Only made it about 5 houses down the road. She was PISSED. She marches me right back into the school while saying “YOU DO NOT RUN OFF SCHOOL PREMISES WITHOUT PERMISSION AM I CLEAR”, moves my car on the behavior traffic light straight from green to purple and gives me a “think about what you’ve done” sheet. She also got the vice principal to walk in and she wasn’t too pleased either, but she wasn’t screaming like my teacher. She even asked if I was okay and if anything was wrong (like if I was upset or anything.) It was so funny now that I look back. I can’t believe it’s now been 13 years since that, now I’m in college. Edit: I DO have Asperger’s Syndrome and ADHD but it nothing to do with what I did.

I remember doing the same thing while I was in 4th grade approximately 20 years ago (trying to run away from school, that is). And my teachers kept holding me down and catching me to keep me safe from doing that, too.

I am thankful that you found him. As someone who has ADHD and also autism, I get the being bullied and not wanting to go to school. The easy answer is to leave. I also get as parents you interest your child the school for a certain time each day. It is their responsibility to make sure that they have a count of all students at all times. However I also appreciate the idea of trying the mainstream later, there is a place and time for trying to bridge the gap with SPED classrooms and also with traditional classrooms. However, most autistic children do tend to be delayed in the same level of thinking then their peers. This also shows that he in his own way is sharing that he does need a classroom where it's a trained team of teachers who understand him more and a place where he can thrive and want to go. I was homeschooled because I was always bullied and felt like I did not believe there. I was not able to stem in a way that helped me. Now I have graduated with a high school diploma and have 3 AS degrees and working on finishing up my bachelor's. It's possible with the right teachers and advocation. I hope he can get to a place where he is welcomed and cared for and he wants to be there.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Our son ran away after finally being strong enough to hop our tall backyard fence. Took us by surprise! There is no more frightening feeling than having your child go missing and knowing they don't have the ability to understand the dangers around them. Luckily our son ran to a nearby park where I looked first. If he would have ran the other way he would have ended up on a busy road. Since this incident we have put in cameras and alarms that will go off if he tries to exit the property in any way. Even with that he still needs eyes on him constantly. He is 9 years old now and getting faster and stronger. It only takes a couple seconds to lose sight of him. We hope someday he will grow out of being a runner.

I escaped from My primary school twice, when I was little. I first escaped when there was a little fence, I climbed over it and Ran across the road. After that I went to the Bridge over the Train tracks and by that time I got caught and taken back to my primary school which I received 8 minutes of Detention, because I stayed missing for 4 minutes and 4 seconds. My Second Escape was when My school Built bigger fences after my first Escape and I got near the big fence and crawled beneath it and ran of again but this time in a Different Route I went to the nearby park and walked around before going back to the group of houses before going back to the Park, Some time later I was Discovered in a Forest Dirty, and was taken back to the group of houses but this time I was taken back home where my mother was not happy about what I did and sent me to the stairs for 3 hours after I had a bath, it took them 45 minutes to find me bringing the total amount of time I went missing undetected for 49 minutes and 4 seconds, The primary school built An Even bigger fence and Made sure to fill the gaps underneath the fence and the school called me a 'Little houdini' after those Two Escapes.

My son is autistic and he will be turning 5 soon and will be going to kindergarten. I worry about this constantly. Update my son started school and it is not going well. He is eloping to the parking lot and the principal is not giving him any one on one supervision because he doesn’t have an IEP yet. I contacted the school during the summer and told them my son has level 3 autism and they were not concerned. Now the principal is telling me that she only wants him there for 3 hours because she can’t keep him safe.

I was told that I was to call the second I found she went missing [on an adventure as she calls it] The system & the police said they would be helping me. Well, I had a call less than 24 hrs, saying I have an emergency court the next day. I had been trying different things and they lied about helping me. they took my child away and said I was NEGLECTING my child. Every time she left, I went looking for her!!!!!!!!!! This was about 3 Months now! 1st they said after we feel the Safety issue is taken care of then we will see about Sophie coming home. Now they say we want to see a calendar that has FUN things everyday to keep her from wanting to leave. Sophie is my Granddaughter & she came to live with me when she was 5 1/2 mths old. When I stated to notice she was showing signs of something wasn't right , I began to look into getting her evaluated. Eventually, about 2 yrs later I got a referral to Children's Hospital, I demanded them no one else. She has been diagnosed with ASD mixed with ADHD. She's been bullied, she's had kids do things that the teacher wouldn't see all they saw was her reactions. She eventually started to not want to go back in after recess. The school has downplayed the issues. Right now, she is with my Daughter & her husband that was diagnosed with autism yearsss ago. He also has some siblings diagnosed, too. I witnessed via face call to say prayers with Sophie how he & sadly my daughter do Not know about the ASD nowadays. They [he] was threatening her with making her go to a Foster for a week [Christmas since she's Not allowed to come Home] and cause she had lied about her homework & wasn't bring it home. He aggressively said your going to being it home and you are going to do it ALL. I calmly said I guess someone doesn't really now that much about autism. He hung up our call didn't get to prayers the look on her face which I saw even tho she wasn't looking at me was Crushing. My daughter is looking at me as though I had actually done something wrong. That shocks me!!!!!!!!!! They are being like the bullies & teachers, treating her like she should know not to behave that way. I've tried the items you've talked about and there's been a few times I've had to repeat myself, she will cut them off! Right now my car is broke down and I know she needs Therapy but I've got obstacles that I am Truly trying to get thru for my Granddaughter's sake. She is 10 now. They won't let her come home! I need HELP for my Granddaughter's sake. I was worried about her before, now I'm worried about her that much more. I kept trying to tell them that them taking her away was going to do her more harm than good. They're still ignoring me. I myself have been learning about ASD and raising my Granddaughter. I'm Not perfect I am still learning. They are doing her more harm the longer they keep her away from HOME. 2 weeks ago on the phone she asked me if she was going to Forget me! Then every time we do get to talk she says she wishes she wouldn't have left the house. I'd tell her we all make mistakes. Just follow the rules and I've things I've got to do before she could come me. But soon yo Will get to come home! The system said, well she hasn't runaway from where she's at now. of course not, there are '4' people there, 2 dogs and she's been able to play games on the computer; HELLO!!!!!!!!! I've also got a ticket from an Officer Flores who has not have kids until her recently got married to someone with kids. Then he isn't very Professional for he couldn't even put his Belt on correctly. Gives me a ticket for Neglect that is checked as child Abuse. He gave it to me the day after and her couldn't even come to my door. I need help, my heart hurts so bad for her.

Does nothing but teach autistic people that they have no voice, no boundaries, that they’re sub human freaks and how they express themselves is humiliating to them and everyone associated to them. Autism is a reactionary condition most often influenced by external and internal factors. Most kids with Autism if left to do whatever they please while not having to worry about the necessities of survival would be much more agreeable. However, they have to conform to our world in order to live in society and survive. So we use high pressure methods to influence and change them. Which didn't work for our son which is why we chose the "Son Rise" methods over ABA. I do think ABA works for some children, but it isn't the best method for all.

If you circumcize your son, he is 46 percent more likely to develop autistic tendencies. I can only wonder what these parents did to their sons 😮.

You should get a service dog so he doesn’t run away

hey when your child has gone missing and you're considering contacting police and wondering if he was abducted or has gone off somewhere unsafe why is one of your very first instincts to bust out the old camera?

1:06 in the video was our first instinct when arriving on scene. We don’t have footage of that because we were looking for our son. Before arriving my wife was driving as quickly as she could (legally) and I knew it was important to other families dealing with runaways to document. Since all I was doing was sitting in the passenger side of the car, I decided to record and many families here are glad we have this video to help them through similar issues.

Wow, you just reinforced his maladaptive behaviour by goving him affection and attention. A good smack instead would have ensured that this ridiculous brattiness never happens again. The parents are growing a pet for themselves, and a salary cow.

So your plan is smacking kids when they get lost?
@ariajane8695

Perhaps you don't have a child with autism. The poor kid obviously ran off because he was in distress so physical discipline is only going to make matters worse. If you were caregiver of someone with special needs, you'd not have an opinion. Until then, you don't need to have one
