An autistic person reacts to autism ASMR video for the first time. Hi indie people! So today, I decided to show my reaction to autism ASMR as I've personally never watched ASMR. I don't understand how people find enjoyment from asmr in general, so I wondered if autism asmr would be different and may be better suited for autistic people.
What is ASMR? Well ASMR stands for an autonomous sensory meridian response. ASMR is a term for the sensation people get when watching a stimulating video or doing another activity that involves personal attention.

I love ASMR, but only very specific ones. I have not once found an ASMR video "for autistic people" that I enjoyed. The ones where the person is acting out a scene (such as personal attention like a haircut) are always better than ones where they are making sounds for the sake of making sounds, in my opinion. Also, it's typically the channels with the higher production quality of video backdrop who have a better understanding of sound design and the psychological aspects. I think it has a lot to do with the differences for autistic people who are sensory-seeking or sensory-avoiding as to whether it's enjoyable and which different kind is enjoyable. I am typically auditory-avoiding and this media can often drown out "bad sounds" better than white noise, which is one of the "bad sounds" as far as I'm concerned.

Everyone has different taste in sounds that they find attractive and pleasure in. Basically lots of us has a pleasure of certain sounds. To me ASMR whispers is too weird for me. I tend to love nice sounds like stress balls, slimes, balloons squeeze, blow, tap, etc. not just to the ears but my eyes too. Anything that has a smooth feeling with no other noise is a huge guilty pleasure of mine. Rough sounds in the other hand is painful to my ears. Could be a sensory thing.

Your reaction to the mic rubbing stuff is like my reaction to high-pitched squealing sounds, makes me cringe so hard and it's almost painful. Back when I worked at a grocery store ringing people up a coworker went by with a cart that needed oiling and the sound was so bad I had to stop what I was doing! Thankfully the person I was ringing up was reacting the same way hahaha!

I personally like ASMR if it's visual\physical based rather than sound based. For example, someone messing with another person's hair, a monkey grooming someone, bars of soap being shaved down with a knife, someone's makeup being done, rotating an object with glitter in or on it to get it to sparkle in the light, etc. Sound based ASMR's tend to be dangerous territory for me lol. And honestly, I don't really even look for ASMR videos, I have some, but most are literally just KZbin videos that just happen to have a part in them that I play over and over that is relaxing and satisfying for me xD

I think you would enjoy visual ASMR with the sound off. Some people experience tingles some don't, it's like a brain structure thing. So you literally cannot understand it if you don't experience it. For people that experience it, it feels like a tingling sensation in the brain that can spread to the neck and through the whole body. ASMR stands for Autonomic Sensory Meridian Response. So we literally FEEL the sounds as a pleasant physical sensation. It seems like you do actually experience ASMR, but have a negative reaction to most triggers.

I haven't watched or listened to an ASMR video in a while but when I did I had to look for VERY specific sounds. One channel is hosted by an Australian man doing massage-type videos that actually work for me! The skin rubbing and hair scratching sounds in two of his videos in particular are nice and immersive. His whispering is also the only one I can listen to, others just don't do it for me. MassageASMR is the name.

I've experienced ASMR my whole life. Always thought of it as "shivers". Ironically, I HATE the word "tingle" especially in asmr context. I also hate the sound of those "textured silicone pads/brushes"; I tend to prefer a bit scratchy and "smooth" sounds. There are very specific asmr triggers that I enjoy (lots of the "old school" ones). Then there are... well, a lot, that makes me wanna throw my earbuds in the trash. The worst is when a video starts out good and then there's suddenly some godforsaken mouth sounds, "sk sk sk" whispers or something like that coming out of nowhere. BLEH NO STOP IT

As someone with Autism/Aspergers who listens to ASMR to help with anxiety, here's some of the input and advice I can share based on what I've seen and heard: •If you want a good intro into ASMR without getting overwhelmed, try looking up "AMSR for Headaches and Migranes". The sounds tend to be a lot softer and nicer on the ears, and often the ASMRtists will wear dark clothing and use minimal lighting in the background. It's a good place to start if you do want to listen to more ASMR in the future without getting overstimulated. •Often times in ASMR videos, you can find time stamps of different sounds being played in each video. You can often find them in either the video description or even in the comments. Experiment and listen to a bit of the different sounds in the video to see what you like and what you don't. That way, you can search up the sounds you like in certain videos, and avoid videos themed around the sounds you don't like, kinda like a mini ASMR portfolio. For example, I can tell that you don't like objects being rubbed against the mic (something I'll get into in a moment) along with some whispering, so I would recommend being cautious of those sounds for next time. I can also see that you like fidget toy sounds from a distance, so I would recommend having you try out "No Talking ASMR" as well as a few "Fidget toy ASMR" videos, as well as a few "Object Touching ASMR" where they touch various items at a distance from the mic. •WHO. THOUGHT. RANDOM. STUFF. RUBBING. AGAINST. A. MIC. WAS. A. GOOD. IDEA?! Honestly, I feel like anyone with sensory issues should be wary of "objects on mic" sounds, as there are very few mic sounds that sound good without sounding too overwhelming. I would personally be very careful with sponges or makeup brush ASMR as they're the main items used to be rubbed against a microphone and can cause abunch or sounds that can easily overstimulate you. I'm with you with on that end its not good for me either 😖

So I have ASD and also experience ASMR, _but_ I usually don't experience it from intentionally created videos or content. Everything often feels too choreographed and pandering. A lot of them would be like, "Hey I bet you like it if I talk really slowly in a whispery voice and bob around from side to side, while I tap my fingernails on this surface for more than a few minutes, or rub stuff against the binaural mic... bet that makes you feel _sooo_ good" Meanwhile, a lot of "unintentional ASMR" content does trigger the sensation within me. This does include Bob Ross, but also includes a heck load of different stuff for me (doctor examinations, quiet tutorials, therapy sessions, barber razor shaves, grooming monkeys, etc). I suppose much like how us people on the spectrum exhibit traits to various degrees, the same trigger could cause ASMR in one person but annoyance in another, even if both have experienced the sensation before. So definitely not everyone who experiences ASMR would respond the same way to whispers, for instance.

From your reactions, it seems like you did enjoy some things, visual and some sound. Note that ASMR videos are very much personal preference; you'd need to try a bunch to find videos to match your preferences. Search on the terms matching your preferences. eg I like tapping sounds and glitter visuals so I search on those terms. Similarly, there are many videos labelled "no whispering" - clearly many people don't like it. I wouldn't bother looking for "autism" ASMR - I doubt that's a useful tag. In addition, there is a huge range of production and technique. This didn't look like a particularly high quality ASMR channel compared to ones I watch.

Research is still fairly new with ASMR. Only a minority of the population find it gives the head tingles and pleasure, and most just don’t no matter how much they try. It may be a relic from being in the womb or very young. Amusingly, there seems to be a correlation between receptivity to ASMR *AND* misophonia. The common factor seems to be sensory sensitivity. There’s also a theory (or observation) that the reaction to the sound might depend largely on context. I haven’t seen any studies on autism and ASMR but there might be a higher incidence because of these factors. I’m autistic and I just get misophonia from ASMR sounds, aargh!

I love ASMR videos but had never heard of one's specifically for autistic people/people with sensory processing disorders. As much as I love ASMR the autism one's I watched didn't do anything for me. I'm autistic but they didn't make me feel calm and relaxed I just found them boring. Everyone has different triggers so I think it's about finding what works for you then finding a video dedicated to that thing. The best asmr youtuber in my opinion is whisperedred. I know asmr might not be for everyone but I really suggest given her a go before you rule out asmr completely as not being for you.

Mouth sounds- hate then. Hate them so much. Immediately click off a video if I hear then- which is a problem, because like, 99% of asmr is mouth noises. Which sucks.

So gross! Even the bit of his whisper I can hear through your video is driving me crazy. Whispers in my ear is tantamount to someone I don't know, grabbing my face and forcing me to look them in the eyes.. Feels so aggressive for me, and the exact opposite of the alleged intent. Don't get it at all

/irony on I do not understand what meaning it should have. (the ASMR videos) can someone please explain it to me? /irony off I find the videos from the ASMR channel nonsense. To get an ASMR feeling, I certainly don't watch some guys who whisper around microphones and produce noises.

Other than that proof is shown in him reacting to the topic in his Livestreams and deleting any comments in that direction, if he mentions it its always "catfishes". The two girl whose Text messages were shown are joined in our discord you also can feel free talking to them there.
