So does it record all sources by itself as well and then you can post edit if it made a mistake doing it's auto switch? This is fascinating for sure - does it also have an auto pickup for screen share also??
@aaronpkАй бұрын
Yes it has an option to record all the inputs so you can re-edit later. There's no special "screen share" feature, all video inputs are treated as generic video inputs, and you can map any audio channels to those inputs. I'm not even sure what you'd want to have happen with auto-switching when there is a screen share. Maybe switch to the screen share when there is motion on the screen, and if you stop scrolling then it switches back to the video of the people? I think it would be more reliable to just manually switch to the screen when you want, then set it back to auto switch mode when you don't need to see the screen share anymore.

@aaronpk I'm a reactor, and interview bands also. I'm building a podcast space here in my new house and run everything myself. So if I wanted to pull up a video (say I checked it out with a band) youtube video plays and maybe it switches to a setting/layout for square set up for people's faces as we watch the video playing. And then maybe when it stops or pauses and we start talking more, it goes back to normal. I'm a one man show and have no one running anything like that. Would be nice to let it all happen naturally and then spend minimal time editing and just upload after haha. Still a nice unit! I'm thinking of picking one up for sure 🔥 Thanks for your help and loved the video!
@aaronpkАй бұрын
cool! In that case that should be doable, since there is audio associated with the screen share! You could assign your screen share audio channel to that video channel with a "high" priority, and use medium or low for the mics, and it should auto switch to the video playback once it starts playing audio! Hope that makes sense! Maybe I'll show this in a future video

Aaron great videos as always... Please i have one question for you. I m trying to perfect the autoswitching mode and i wanted to know if the distance of the microphones play a role for perfect autoswitching or if there any setup suggestions for the mics to use. I m using pod mics for the record... Many Thanks!

Hey Aaron! Great video! What about microphone bleed? Does this impact the RCV’s ability to accurately auto switch?
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
It shouldn't be a problem since it just needs to compare relative audio levels. There's definitely some microphone bleed in the podcast footage I used for this demo.

Hi Aaron, recently found your channel because of the Roadcaster Video. I have a question for you. The feature that really interests me the most in the RCV is the auto switching… so far I’ve only been able to find a couple of examples online and I’m not sure I’m so crazy about some of the decisions it makes and the lack of control that the user has. Maybe it’s not a bad thing to not have too much control 😜… but my question is, comparing Auto Switching on the Rodecaster Video and MixEffect using video follows audio on the ATEM mini…which do you prefer? Do you think maybe you could do a video comparing the two? I’d like to be able to rely on this sort of auto switching feature both for my own projects as well as client work. For my own projects things don’t have to be perfect. But for my clients things need to be a bit more polished. The super source feature of the mini extreme ISO combined with MixEffect seems to get close to the potential of the rodecaster and the custom scenes, for example doing a split screen.(unless I’ve misunderstood what the super source feature does) and looking at the pricing of both is close enough that it makes me wonder if one might be more worth it than the other… I normally run a 3 camera setup and then sometimes a split screen with the two main speakers using multicam editing in FCPX Any input is definitely appreciated! Or if you happen to make a video on this I’d love to see a comparison! Thanks in advance!

I actually have a video coming out soon comparing the auto-switching in the RCV with the YoloBox Ultra! I'll make another one comparing it with the ATEM Mini Extreme. You're right that the SuperSource feature in the Extreme is similar to the layouts in the RCV, although the RCV is a lot easier to use for that. I do have some past livestreams showing the auto-switching in MixEffect so you can get a sense of how it works: kzbin.info/www/bejne/e2LRemhjpZhod6c I will tell you right now for sure that the RØDECaster Video is a lot easier to set up and use for this compared with the ATEM Mini Extreme. But that's a good idea for a direct comparison video so I'll see what I can do!

Great Job. Is the auto switcher better than the ATEM Mini Pro with MixEffect to auto switch ? I am looking at getting this or Rodecaster duo with ATEM Mini pro using MixEffect for a 2 person podcast. Thx

I wonder if I have 4 mics attached to the rodecaster pro 2 and 2 more attached to the rodecaster video, if auto switching could work in this scenario. I like the interface of the rodecaster pro 2 for audio, but I also would like to do auto switching on the rodecaster video. Is this possible?

Auto-switching is great but how about auto-mixing? Can you control mic bleed with it?

Hi Aaron, great video! My question might be a bit obvious but was this auto switching example done in-post? Or am I looking at this wrong

The auto-switching you see in this video was done live with the RØDECaster Video! This is a real example!

Great explanation. I encourage guests not to talk over each other so with this setup will it organically revert to the wide shot on a less frequent basis or do you have your force it over by hard switching then reengaging auto as you showed?
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
You can influence how often you want the wide shot to appear with the priority settings on each angle. There isn't exact information about how often it will use the angles based on the settings, so you'll have to experiment a bit to see how it works.

Hey Aaron my question to you is at the end of a recording do you get a file with all the cuts during the recording? Thanks!
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
You can turn on "multitrack" recording which records all the separate files, as well as the recording with all the auto cuts, but right now there is no project file created that you can edit later. It's a popular request, so I suspect they might add that in the future though.

So if I have my three microphones connected to the Rodecaster Pro 2, the auto-switching won't work because the Rodecaster Video will reconise the three microphones as one source instead of three different ones?
@Vidman19813 ай бұрын
I wonder if these would work daisychained together for something more substantial like a City Council meeting where you may have up to 10 to 15 microphones in play. I suppose each mic would need a fixed camera, or if there were a way to establish a 4k camera serving as a wide shot and pushed in and scaled up to a 1080 resolution for each speaker in some sort of virtual camera operation. I've recently had more than one municipality contact me regarding an attempt at a fully automated system to which they wouldn't have to hire an operator, but would still have some level of production quality. Thoughts?
@aaronpk3 ай бұрын
That sounds like a very fun problem to solve 😃 There's no daisy chaining or 4K in this tho. You could do it with an ATEM Constellation and MixEffect on an iPad or Mac, the MixEffect app has an auto switching feature too. But you might also want to look at meeting room systems, there are some that can pull out closeup shots of individual speakers from a single 360 cam in the room. It really just depends on how much budget they are working with
@_Thumbnail_3 ай бұрын
As did Aaron I'd like to suggest that you look at meeting room systems. Some have a PTZ camera which automatically pans to the speaker who is talking (actually pans to the position where the loudest sound is coming from).
