I don't think I've seen anyone in the comments mention this yet: I love how Frink originally designed the autodialer to alert school children about snow days... But a single snow day would probably be long over by the time the dialer called every home with children in a city that big. Maybe it was meant for very small towns... EDIT: Okay I did the math. I picked a US city that sounds about as large as Springfield (my hometown of Tucson AZ) and multiplied the number of homes with children (300,000 - 30% of the total 1mil population) to, give or take, a 30 second phone call including ringing, person picking up, and a short message that today is a snow day. That clocks in at a little over 100 days to take the dialer to call everyone. Even 20 seconds for each call would take 70 days. So yeah, I'm thinking the autodialer might've been invented for very small towns with like 100 people. Also I must have a sad and alarming amount of free time on my hands to do this.

Homer's lack of surprise about the autodialer's legs is actually in keeping with a key character trait my father pointed out to me, years back. Homer, at least in the classic years, has a tendency to take whatever he observes in the moment at face value. Even if it goes against what, even for him, would have had to have already been well established. The most immediate example I think of is the one Dad and I were discussing at the time; the "Maggie lost her baby legs!" Treehouse of Horror scene. Logically, Homer should know from personal experience that people don't shed their "baby legs" to sprout adult ones, but drawing this from memory would take more mental energy than someone as chronically lazy as he is, is willing to put in. Ergo, he instead draws on what's happening in the moment: she's started growing her "first tooth", and her legs have now come off, so this must be another developmental milestone she's achieving. One of those character layers that gets funnier as you think about it, and then watch it in action. Like in this scene. 😂

None of you have to take my word for it but I think there are episodes when Marge is right to be upset and why. Lisa's Date with Density - Homer used an autodialer just to get money and drove the town mad. The Joy of Sect - Homer made the family take part with a cult that wanted money and she wanted no part in it. Tennis the Menace - Homer stunk up the tennis game so bad he and Marge became laughingstocks. Poppa's Got a Brand New Badge - Homer caused a blackout which led to the family's house to become ransacked. Overall, Marge may be irritable but sometimes, her reasons to be angry are valid.
@ronaldcheng18574 жыл бұрын
perualonso Don’t also forget El Viaje Misterioso de Nuestro Jomer (The Mysterious Voyage of Homer) - The Simpsons attend the annual chili cook-off festival. Homer promises not to drink, but ends doing so while also going crazy from eating too many chilis and runs away.
