This time in the AutoEdits Garage we are back on the 1973 Ford Mustang project called Large Marge and ready to reveal how easy it is to adapt the AWESOME Wilwood rear drum to disc conversion Big Brake Kit parking brake cables into the stock Mustang pedal assembly! It's a simple trick but it got the best of me for a while and thought to share with anyone else looking to update their older muscle cars to the modern brakes and still get the practicality and safety of the parking brake.
I'll also explain how a rear axle seal started leaking on the Mustang and show some clean up tips. Then a demonstration of the parking brakes on the incline of my driveway.
This is the kit installed on this vehicle years ago, long before it was a driver:
www.wilwood.com/BrakeKits/Bra...
And the video of the installation:
• Drum to Disc Brake Con...
Here's a link to the AutoEdits Amazon Store where it would help me if you decided to try any of the products featured in the videos... you could order them here:
www.amazon.com/shop/autoedits
Thanks so much for watching and if you feel like it... give me a follow on the instagram / autoedits_jason
Enjoy Your Drive!

Its so nice that conversion kits now have the drum brakes inside them. For a long time everybody used Cadillac Eldorado calipers because they had the e-brake setup on them that grabbed the rotor. But they were always really finicky. This setup is awesome.

I meant it when I said this is one of the best kits on the market. Brackets fit perfect and everything performs (and looks) better than expected. Cool reminder about the caddy brakes... I remember trying to make them work on something decades ago and they almost did...LOL

Last week when doing my tire rotation I found out that my rear drums are shot, My PowerStop front pads have been working overtime. Found a kit for my vehicle to convert Drums to Discs. Can't wait to get a few vehicles moved and start digging in.

That is such a rewarding upgrade to me. I'm not sure why I'm so averse to drum brakes but discs are so much better for what I do! Good luck digging in on that!

havent even gotten my Holley sniper in my car, and you already have me looking at upgrading my brakes and suspension! I currently have power disc up front but they are just 1 piston i think. and drums out back. and while i cant afford the suspension you have im looking in QA1 coilovers for the front and regualr QA1s for the back. Im sure theyll perform alot better than my old grab a track system. gunna keep my subframe connectors and traction bars tho.

If I use this technique (which I love the simplicity) on my '65 Fastback, will I have to use the whole equalizer rod and spring setup, or is there something else that will, or can be done to give tension back to the released position?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 3 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with the 65 of hand but you don't need any of the equalizing parts... just that spring that fits on the section at the threaded rod that should already be there.

Working on a 94 Mustang GT with the 5.0 in it. Trying to find a headlight to taillight wiring kit. Dash cluster wiring, oil sensor wiring, everything. I can't seem to figure out what harness I should order. The descriptions on these sites are mostly less than useless or it just doesn't cover what I need. Any recommendations? I've looked a bit into Painless, but their harness doesn't seem to cover everything. And 900 bucks is a bit much for trial and error for me.
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits 4 жыл бұрын
A complete factory replacement harness for a late model Mustang is super specific and I don't think exists in the aftermarket. Even the OEM harness is made up of several sections. Just order a chassis harness and an efi harness and install them. Pretty much what I did on this car but had a specific efi harness for the holley and everything plays nice.

I have this kit on my 1966 Plymouth Fury. My question for you is if you’ve had your parking brake lock up on you while driving. I.e, a harder brake pedal and noticeable decrease in axle turn power. I’d love to keep the kit, but I cannot keeping having my brakes lock up. Any suggestions or ideas for fixing my conundrum?
@AutoEdits
@AutoEdits Жыл бұрын
This kit NEVER actuates the parking brake while driving... it's a mechanical pull cable. Not sure how it would lock up unless something is assembled wrong inside the rotor. Check all that stuff.
