This is great, but I hope they make a stealth version that tones-down the look a bit because police in my area love to harass street racer cars. Audi got this right with the S and RS versions of TT and A3, A4: remove the stickers, more modest effects but with performance interior and performance drive train. Make mine red or white. RS = Rally Sport S = Stealth.

This is much more like it. Hopefully not too late to market. However, from what I have heard it may well be made in China. Not a problem, but Europe can’t afford to have all cars built in China.

@@rdconnor yeah they invested $700 million in Xpeng. They're probably looking at Merc and Geely's partnership and the promising #1 and #3 where the electric platform is taken care of in China and Merc do the rest.

The rear is flawlessly executed, the front has presence and to be honest it all looks very sporty love it. If they could make a golf size version with all wheel drive and four wheel torque vectoring. Of course it would need long range batteries. The South Koreans is bringing out something like this called the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N.

I think the only flaw in the back is that they allow the taillights to cross the two C pillar parallels that have always been conserved in past GTIs.

The Ioniq 5 N will lack a lot of range with its boxy shape and a relatively small battery. Worse than the EV6 GT range, which is already really limited

I think this ID.GTI concept is a definite home run. I do hope there will be two, though - this one as a Polo GTI, and then a larger Golf GTI on the SSP platform that is a bit lower slung. Also, I would echo one of the earlier comments that a car wearing a GTI badge has to have strong acceleration. I know that there is a complicated model hierarchy within the VW Group, and you can't have a GTI that has Porsche acceleration, but you also can't have a GTI that is 1-2 seconds slower to 60 than the competition. In the IC days, you could always tune a GTI to get it near the top in terms of performance. With electric, the car has to be a top performer right out of the box.

It's slow to deserve the GTI badge in a age of electric cars. You can have things like the MG4 Xpower that runs the 0-100 km/h in 3.8 seconds, and probably on the same price range of this GTI when it launches. You will have better quality in the VW (maybe), but still...

we need more small affordable city EVs and not 200k ev mercedes.... i like ID2 and i kinda like this GTI as well. i hope that production version of the ID2 wont be too much striped down from the concept. espesially interior looked amazing and comfy with all those cloth/alcantara covered surfaces.

Looks great. My suggestions to make it a best-seller would be: 1. wider widebody wheel arches 2. smaller rims 3. 3-door version 4. physical buttons and dials for climate and steering wheel controls

Two comments, please call it the GTE, so we have GTI, GTX and GTE lines. The design is so nice and subtle, but a few small things are I'd make the mirrors a bit smaller also I think the sudden stop on the attachment will make a lot of wind noise, but I've no idea. Wheel design is superb and the rear is just savage.

Love the direction VW is heading. However there's something about that lighting and painting that makes it look like you are standing around a CGI model.

I would remove the trim around the fenders (design probably taken from non-sporty cars like crossover's). It makes the wheels appear bigger and out of proportion for this kind of car. Also it's a disadvantage to the otherwise sporty look of a GTI. On a crossover version it might work. Other than that it looks like a great design

The design language both outside and inside is so much better in ID.2 and this GTI-version than in any other VW ev cars. I really hope they will change the whole their ev line up to this same direction. This is more like real Volkswagen style. I have Golf GTE mkVII and ID.2 is the first VW ev car that I am really really interested in. Every detail inside seems to be so much better and stylish and better materials and everything. Just better quality. This is the way to go Volkswagen!

I would recommend using the flat bottomed GTI wheel. The charging port should be under the front VW badge. So much easier to pull straight in and would work better with Tesla V3 sites.

VW needs to capitalize on the performance reputation of Mk7. Hyundai will bring an EV with 577hp, VW must step beyond this 6 second 0-60 realm. Even at this price point, EVs are expected to be quicker than their petrol counterparts; 5 seconds would be better.

Exterior is on point. I hope they don't cheapen the interior like they did with the 1st edition of the ID3. Otherwise it is on point. I'm not sure why they would stick with FWD as opposed to RWD. I get that GTIs were always FWD but RWD is always sportier.

I owned an '07 GTI and now a '20 GTI and I'm liking what I'm seeing so far. The front and rear light bars looks great. I also like the rear diffuser and spoiler. The Mars red color looks slick. I'd like to see a little bit more honeycomb design in the front. Maybe just a little honeycomb right below the light bar (the area that's already black). As far as the interior, definitely have to integrate that red lighting/accents throughout. Overall, it's a great looking concept. Continue to lean into the fun and sporty nature of the GTI.

If this would ever actually come to market (as is) in the US it would be a game changer just in design alone! I remember when I first saw a Mk6 GTI on the back of a truck, I thought - I had to have one!!!!...and I still dive that car today! What I didn't understand at the time was how I would fall in love with that car, I bought it only knowing it had killer good looks.The performance (fun to drive) for the price was what made it my love, and that is what needs to be captured in this new GTI. Take note of the up and coming Ioniq 5 N,....a little drama for something simple! SOUND!!!!

VW, please bring this car to USA, a lot of us here in USA are not into SUVs. Back in the early 90s, my fist 2 cars in my life, a 1974 beetle and a 1982 golf. Since then, I fell in love with the golf. Having owned mk1, mk3 vr6, mk5 gti, mk7.5 rabbit edition and now a manual mk8 r, this electric gti would be perfect as my first electric car. Please make it happen! 😊

Design-wise, this looks VERY good. I’m very happy to see Volkswagen digging back to their stylistic roots. I’m hoping for 16" wheels with maybe optional 17"s, but it would be nice to move away from excess. What will make or break this car is how well it drives and how fun, tossable, physically connected and driver-centric focus. Excellent steering feedback and linear throttle will be key, but more importantly, a VERY light curb weight despite it being electric will be necessary. Excess weight will fatally hurt this car. I’m hoping somewhere in the 1300 kg mark; less is better, of course. I’m hoping for a tech-free interior, void of any touch screens, but I suppose that’s wishful thinking. Just remember that most of us were totally fine driving around cars in the 90s with buttons. For colours, I hope they offer many interesting options. LB6B Irish green and Lapiz blue would be very desirable. Lastly, and definitely not least…Volkswagen must make this available to North American customer (Canadians!). Many of us love this size of vehicle, especially those who are likely to shop for this class of car. Look at how Mazda shrunk the size of their MX5 Miata and it was very well received and loved by its target market; outselling the previous generation. Volkswagen can slim down the GTi with very positive results if they’re smart with packaging.

I knew when Thomas said 'leave your thoughts in the comments below' that everyone would just love it and want it put into production. We had a mk5 golf GTI in red and we loved it!

kinda like it. front looks superb. but i cant say that for the back design of the car. that stop lamps needs more work on them. then it will be 10/10.
