I always look in my rearview mirror. Saved my wife and 3 children from being hit behind by a big Scania truck with trailer (fullsize). I could ser the truck come fast and begin to jump around and braking hard, drove 90° to the left between oncoming cars. The truck whent out of the road and back. The rearview-mirror is a lifesaver !!!

Yep, realistically you're no safer than a motorcyclist is no matter what you're driving so you've gotta keep your eyes open.

Always when im coming up to stationary traffic i ALWAYS go the the side where i could drive off and leave at least a couple of car lengths in front and until there's enough traffic behind and my eyes are peeled on the cars behind..

Just a reminder to those that cut-off a semi at high speed. They can't stop as fast and will crush you into a pancake!

From my research, you would more than likely come out of an accident like this safer if you were in an SUV, minivan or sturdy/executive car (like a Mercedes E class or Volvo S80). Realistically an accident like this occurs on the highway, resulting in a pileup. On the roads there are cars of different ages, different drivers and different structures. A result of coming out alive or declared dead all boils down to the situation and what kind of accident is it.

A truck hit me from behind going at a red robot in a golf 7. Luckily no cars or trucks in front of me. The truck kicked me like a soccer ball into and through the intersection. I was 100% fine. Not because my golf was a 5 star ncap vehicle - but because there was nothing in front of me thankfully.
