I'm owning a Model Y Performance from Giga Berlin and what I was most surprised by, was the sheer power of this vehicle. I tried the uphill part of the A1 from Kreuz Bliesheim towards the Eifel area and the way it accelerated towards 240km/h was just impressive. Feels like 250km/h is definitely not the limit of the engines and rather just a limitation imposed by software. Regarding the issues with one-pedal driving: when you drive a lot with these vehicles, you get used to it and you learn how to drive the car without making your passengers feel sick. Great review by the way!

Hi Thomas, regarding recuperation: personally I hate the adaptive one because I cannot be 100% sure what will happen next. I see the point though if someone is driving ICE and electric cars and has no chance to get used to one pedal driving. As I'm driving 95% electric now I use one pedal all the time and no one is complaining 😉 For me it's one of the big advantages of driving electric.

I have a 22 Model Y Performance built in California and have to say it’s the best all around vehicle I’ve owned. No fit and finish issues. The performance addictive. The one pedal driving took about a day to get used to and I prefer it. Kind of like getting used to a manual transmission. No need for the Chill mode. As far as ride quality it’s on par with other vehicles I’ve owned or driven including the BMW M3, Mercedes GLC 63 AMG, and certainly better than the BMW X3M.

Tesla model Y noise @ 60mph: 69DB (On par with a small Renault or another cheap eco-car) GLC 63 AMG : 63DB If you cant tell the difference, you are one lucky man. You can litterally buy a Toyota Hiace and not loose any ride quality :)
@DR-zk2do2 жыл бұрын
I was referring to the suspension stiffness which I find typical of a high performance car. As far as noise level I have not found it to be a problem. Perhaps the double pane windows and tires in my Model Y are different?
@kimwollmann71942 жыл бұрын
@@DR-zk2do The GLC Amg and X3M is in another dimension that the Y - and was what i reacted towards. Because the Y is a stiff, cheap plastic interior car with noise like a small citybasket. The GLC 63 AMG is not a stiff racey car, it can be set up like a pillow. The X3M comes with the same adaptive suspension as the rest of the range (if you opt for adaptive and pay for the OTA M upgrade) which is soft in its softest setting. The Y comes with extremely stiff suspension which cannot be adjusted. What planet is this guy from i thought.

I have always been a fan of all Ms AMGs and Macans and have owned many of them but I think it’s the Model Y Performance that is in another dimension with its instant acceleration. Perhaps my 2022 MYP with the double pane windows and soft touch plastics is different than earlier models. I like the minimalist interior but would consider a full electric GLC AMG or X3M or Macan if they were available.
@DrAlban-yb3wu2 жыл бұрын
@@DR-zk2do You keep thinking you have a really specially produced vehicle. Soft plastics, good sound proofing etc. The problem is that things can be measured, and stats can be found. You stated that the Y was more comfortavle than a AMG GLC and a X3M. That is where our conversation started. You have since left this rather stupid argument. The Y is amazing! Really roomy, economical, easy to use, looks neat with the minimalist design, many of them are fast aswell. For me, Teslas lack quality, when they nail that - im coming over.

No instrument cluster is simply unacceptable. If this is what Tesla decided to omit in order to lower the price of the vehicle I simply don't trust their judgement.
@TheLastMoccasin2 жыл бұрын
The simpler the vehicle, the faster they can build them.... hence why Tesla's sales dwarf attempts from overcomplex Legacy ICE. You can add one aftermarket or buy a different vehicle, that's why having options is a great thing!! But it's not a problem for most people once you drive one for more than a day....

@@TheLastMoccasin The navigation system in my car is on the side. I got used to it as I drive it for years. However, it took me 5 minutes of drive in a car where the navigation is also displayed in the instrument cluster to understand the "attention" price that I'm paying. IMHO, having a digital instrument cluster should be the bare minimum in 2022 as HUD is already a well established technology...
@TheLastMoccasin2 жыл бұрын
@@omeryehezkely3096 I agree that some people find instrument panels or HUDs useful, but a lot of people don't, and including costly hardware features that are only "required" by a small % of customers is a bad move for a business laser-focused on higher production volumes as their primary objective. If it won't help them build more cars, it's not required. Also, MS and MX have one and aftermarket ones exist too.

the real reason why there is no instrument cluster is full self driving. Tesla always have vision of car fully driving itself around... so in that case you dont need to look at instrument cluster. Maybe just at central screen for movies, youtube, games, etc. This car is made for future where driver will drive from time to time, just for fun. But most of the time, car will drive you around. For that reason, instrument cluster becomes unnecessary.

We’re getting new BMW iX M60 in Uk, after having Tesla model 3 performance for 2 years, keeping both - so I think we’d prefer just one paddle driving since we’ve learned how to drive smoothly breaking with taking foot off accelerator. I think adaptive is pointless in the future. People just need to learn how to drive electric cars from the start. It will change as we have teenagers doing their driving tests in EVs!

This would seem reasonable, I agree. But the reason it has gotten more expensive is because of increasing material costs and they’re selling like hot cakes which means demand exceeds supply. Love your reviews! I own a Freemont LR and I feel the suspension becomes acceptable when I have my car loaded down for a trip. I usually have a hitch mounted 2 bike carrier and bikes and probably about 50kg's of additional luggage. I have done 4k km trips with this configuration and feel a noticeable difference in the suspension. I wish there was an aftermarket solution to remove the harshness, I would prefer a suspension somewhere in between what I have now and the XC40 Recharge , although I would take the XC40 suspension over this as a compromise. Your discussion on one pedal driving was interesting and I will poll my passengers to find out if I am doing fine with that. I really enjoy one pedal driving, rarely if ever use the brakes. My build quality was pretty good, I only 2 issues that req'd service was the charging port not lined up and driver seat plastic cover around the base coming off. Both were fixed in my garage with Tesla service. 50k km's in one year of driving and no creaks and still feels solid. My only gripe would be finding a solution to the harsh suspension that will not void my warranty, would be nice if Tesla would address this and give owners an upgrade option. I would pay for that.

german model Y = perceived better quality for sure, tesla needs it. I wouldn't buy it due to the lack of instrument cluster, but fun drive. This or the ix60? As always, excellent review Thomas

Aftermarket instrument cluster that you can customize? They exist, although most people find they are not really needed and worth the money. Otherwise, they would be the #1 selling aftermarket accessory if it was truly needed.

@scotie6902 жыл бұрын
Y? Why? 😂 I understand and like the Tesla concept of what an EV should be, but it doesn’t work for me. Interior wise, for instance, that’s too much minimalism. I need that some commands have some sort of redundancy in case one it’s faulty. Many “solutions” are simply hidden ways of cutting costs to earn more in each car. It’s a real super car in performance, that’s clear. Still I prefer an i50. Tested it and wow, it’s the best of both worlds.

6:56 fog *inside* ? That looks outside (as it's follow the blade limit), unless the wiper is inside too 🤔 Rear windows are also dual layers, just not exactly like the front ones IIRC the cargo is NOT 1 meter wide (wheel wells gives only 94cm)... Feels like you were in a hurry to drive it and have fun
@autogefuehl2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the feedback. Maybe I wasnt accurate enough with the windscreen, my point was that there is quite often a "wet" windscreen, especially when you are not using AC 24/7. Must have something do to with how and where the vents are installed. Rear windows, the rear ones really dont look like dual insulation, didnt know that they are dual insulation inside? You sure it is also for the German model and not only for Shanghai? As for the trunk, well the 1m 40" ruler fits in there, easily at the front between the wheel arches, more like 1,20 m or smth. And maybe a little less wide further back, but offers sufficient space.
@seb.2 жыл бұрын
@@autogefuehl noted 👍 For the rear windows glass, on the chinese MY it's already different than the front ones... Didn't have a chance to see a german MY yet, your video doesn't show the rear glass edge to understand it. And for the cargo, it's best to measure the smallest width, else it can be misleading. Between wheel wells, there's only 94cm (much less than VWs siblings)
@autogefuehl2 жыл бұрын
thanks m8 and also for following us for so long! Hmm the rear windows' edge seemed very round, havent seen double glass with round edges yet, but maybe it is on the inside or smth, I ll take another closer look

Thanks for another good video. You seem to enjoy the performance model more that the LR. It seems to have gotten rid of some of the weaker points, now they just need to figure the suspension out on th LR+ steering in my opinion. I think you forgot to mention the double glass is now at the rear seat windows too. It's going to be interesting to see how it vil perform as TMY 2.0 with gigacast front+ rear, structural battery and 4780 cells. And finally, where you in Copenhagen and testing the BZ4X last week?

I am a big fan of your channel and you actually inspired me to buy a Volkswagen in India in 2015. I am disappointed though that you make a case of not buying a Tesla made in China as opposed to buying one made in Germany or USA because of China's human rights issues (17:50). Irrespective of whether China has problems with human rights, I find it hypocritical (and rather funny) that you have a problem buying a car made by an American company built in China, so you are ok to do business with a company that does business with someone you find unethical. Aren't your so called ideals a bit skewed here?

Hello @autogefuhl, coult you help me with a buying advice? What would you think is better - a Tesla Y Long Range 19in wheels VS BMW iX3? My priorities are: 1. comfort (I am around your height aprox 190) 2. lofty ride height (the higher the better) 3. Reliability 4. Range This car would be driven around town and probably once per year a long 1000km trip. Any thoughts? Thank you so much, Best regards from Romania!

Supercars have had their day. They were only ever the super rich collectors item, but with increasing income gaps they will just become targets and therefore relegated to track days and transport in a covered trailer. Even then, why buy a supercar over a used racing car for the track? Maybe they have a place driving from a gated community in Dubai to a sandy shopping centre, or maybe an underground carpark to valet service in Monaco. When family hatchbacks are faster and more environmentally responsible, what’s the point?
@Cloxxki2 жыл бұрын
They never needed to promise 200 kWh for the new Roadster. Why not just use THIS pack, squeeze out a tiny bit more peak power, and stick it in a cleverly designed lightweight package? If indeed this is the new cell-to-chassic version, or should save a nice bit of weight that helps a lot on track. With body at least as aero but smaller frontal surface area than Model 3, range would be pretty good. If they manage to have a 100 kWh Plaid 1000 hp level drivetrain to fit (ideally from cell-to-chassis 4680s), weight might be a good bit more but straightline performace with say 1700 kg only, would be great.
