Working on my 67 Camaro Convertible. 400Hp 327, 700r4. Dropped some weight. After 57 years still competitive. I can gold plate it for what a new one costs. And it is repairable on the driveway.

As much as I loved my 67......I wouldn't trade it for my modern automobiles that have all the creature comforts as well as good performance and good mpg. I drive thousands of miles at a time. I need the windows rolled up....and the AC on. And since the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia is not my brother.....I want good gas mileage.

Thanks for the video , Love the second Gen Camaro, My first car back in 88 was a rusted out 74 LT that had a neglected hard existance from new. Fixed it up and drove it for a few years then sold it. All these years later I managed to find another 74 and was finally in the position to have the money and a shop to build it properly, have had it for three years now and it feels like my very own time machine, makes me feel like a teenager again and will hang onto this one.

I remember in 89 when the N10 dual cat exhaust became available on the tuned port cars. It was the first 80's car that made all the pops and burbles when you left off the throttle. I also remember this exhaust option on the news because some west coast states complained it surpassed their sound laws. Still at the time you definitely knew when in 89 when a new f-body or Vette had this option.

Same.. first performance car experience was owning a 2000 LS1 WS6 6 speed at 20 years old. Kept it for 6 years. Wish I didn’t sell it, those are very expensive now. I’m in my mid thirties and bought a 5th gen SS Manual because I missed my trans am so bad! Iv owned the Camaro for over 2 years now.. and even though its superior in almost every way, there’s nothing like taking out the t-Tops and tearing up the roads in the fastest car of the era.

My second car was a brand new '79 Berlinetta and drove that until it got totaled on tax day '88. Loved that car (late 2nd gen is my favorite) and decided to get another Camaro (or Firebird). I found a '78 Z28 w 4spd/t-tops/350. That turned out to be a "beast" and within months of purchasing that I purchased a brand new '88 IROC with 5spd/t-tops/305. The '78 was a winter car for a couple of years. I still drive the IROC (nice weather car only here in the rust belt). Look forward to bringing it out of storage every year!

Owned a 1978 Z 28 when I was in high school mid- late 90's. My favorite is the 70-73 Split bumper cars. I pulled the engine and built a stroker for it at career center. I shot it blue with flat black spolier, factory z 28 hood scoop, and side vents. Crager sst's 15*10 in the back and 15*8 in the front. I had t tops as well but the car got totaled when a drunk driver hit it when I had it parked.

My very first vehicle was the 1967 Camaro. It was always special to me because my relative sold it to me when I was in college. It was the 350-V8, 295 hp SS-RS with 2 speed transmission. The unique thing about my car was it had the "Panther" emblems on both sides of the vehicle. I loved that car and after wrecking it in 1979 and garaging it for the next 41 years, I decided to have it completely restored so that I could experience the exciting performance of this incredible machine. It should be finished in a couple of months, and I intend to pamper it and maybe show it in car shows. Ivee learned that GM never owned up to producing a Panther, but I own one. Thank you for your video. I'll subscribe for the information you provided in this one. Great information.

IROC-Z version of late 80s Camaro Z28 was very quick & handled beautifully. Had a 350 5.7L version avail. Responded well to simple mods. Cant compare technology of 35yrs ago to today. They are icons though..a Yoda minivan never will be! 💯

My mom used to have a 2010 Camaro RS with a 3.6L LFX V6 in it with 304 HP and 278 Ibs of torque and it was a blast to drive till one day my dad decided to trade in the Camaro for the 2023 Toyota 4Runner since Toyota wouldn't give him enough money for the trade in on the 2012 Jeep Patriot, now my mom drives a 2023 Dodge Charger RT Scat Pack Widebody with the 392 Hemi V8 in it with 485 HP and 475 Ibs of Torque and its a beast but she still misses her Camaro.

Visited my local dealership senior year HS '73. Thought I wanted a brand new sporty Vega GT. Salesmen quickly talked me into a Camaro. Glad he did. 'Checking' the boxes on the Factory Order sheet was exciting. Rally Sport, 350, auto, two bbl., black vinyl, 8-track, crank-windows, no ac, no pwr brks, red enamel, one pipe, (Hooker headers later). Drove it through fifteen West Michigan winters and year-round summers. (Headers replaced with stock duals). Rear shocks replaced with higher 'load levelers'. One rocker arm replaced. Bullet-proof, 'abusive-resistant' drivetrain. 190,000 miles. 14/mpg. Too rusty to hoist. Cheers.

We had an '81 Z/28 before we were married. The 350 was anemic at 180hp but she was absolutely beautiful and my (now wife) loved to drive it. Dark blue scheme. The vacuum operated cowl induction with the little blue lights (so you knew when it opened at night) was kitschy but cool. I still have a picture of it in our garage. Would post one here for all of you if I could. Happy I was lucky enough to have been one of the few to have owned one.

Last weekend I stopped to admire a car that had no badging except "Z28" I looked at it for a couple of minutes, and wondered what this gorgeous mystery car was. It was a 2nd gen Camaro in much better-than-stock condition, with some very tasteful upgrades and styling. Never ever saw such a beautiful Camaro in my life. Anyway, this video was awesome. It's hard to find overviews like this that trace a car's evolution through the years. I will be back if you do this for more models.

Another old timer ,I'm 65 and can't stop the love of the Camaro I've had 3 gen ones, 1 gen two, 2 gen three's and my last one is the one I just bought last yr a low mileage 2019 SS convertible. I also had a 69 Mustang and a 70 Challenger but the Camaro's have always had my heart. My favorite Camaro was my 69 RS Z28 black with white stripes. The fastest and most exhilarating one is the 2019 SS convertible . I hope GM doesn't make an electric Camaro

I had a 67 in 1967 as a 17 year old. The 350 lasted one year, built a 427 from a blown up 396/375 in my basement! Sr. In high school with a big block SS.

I had a base model '84 Camaro. It had a carbureted 2.8L V6. It was a DEAD DOG! In late '96 or early '97, I blew that motor, and yanked a 305 (5.0L) out of a '78 Malibu wagon. I drove the wagon before we pulled the motor, and it would have creamed the Camaro. So, swapping the motor into the lightweight body (complete with the 2 barrel carb and cast iron manifolds) meant an instant improvement in the power to weight ratio. I also got a 700R4 from a GTA because the original 700R4 from the V6 wouldn't bolt up to the V8. A little at a time, I threw on a Holley Street Dominator dual plane manifold and a Carter AFB 625cfm carb, headers with a Walker/Dynomax Turbo II cat-back exhaust, Accell ignition, and it was quite fun to drive.

In 1987 they put a 5 spd with the 5.0 tuned port injection, and it had 3:45 posi. My brother and I both had those at the same time. Mine was red, good was black. Amazing cars. Best up on Mustang GT's and Iroc 350's all day. Oh, I had one of those also. I had 4 Irocs. Amazing cars in the day!

I was always a gen 1 and 2 fan but didn't care for the others until gen 6 came around. It was around 2018- 2019 that I saw one and thought, "That looks great!" I did a search online and was impressed by what I saw. I ended up getting a 2019 Camaro. The v6, 6speed in fact. I love the car. It handles very well and while obviously not the quickest or fastest it's surprisingly capable, even on inclines in 6th gear. Where it surprised me the most (not sure why now) is just how much it delivers almost all the way to the 7200 rpm redline. 60 -120 without even shifting out of 6th feels pretty decent. When downshifted to 4th at 60 - 70 it screams for a v6. It undoubtedly feels like a v8 of yesterday since it revs up so quick and so high with a smooth torque curve. Dudes are throwing FAI on them with some impressive results but I really like NA response even though it's not so much a thing anymore. The good news is that the v6 drivetrain is beefy enough to handle a nice bit more with very little downsides other than fuel efficiency. The point I'm getting to is that somewhere in this I went from hating the catfish to thinking it looks great. It may be my favorite now, outside of the gen6. I'm talking looks. I still want a 2nd gen or 1st gen. Not as much as I want a split window 63 Stingray though. 😍

I'm a big Mopar guy but got big love for the Camaros (other than late 70s early 80s lol). Really, that goes for a lot of GM in general. They've made some amazing cars from the Chevelle SS, to the many great generations of Vettes, to the Blackwing.

Excellent video. The Catfish redesign from 1998 is a love it or hate it thing. I personally think it was a huge step backward. The earlier 4th Gens look aggressive and mean by comparison, at least to me. I am not sure why they felt the need to change, perhaps it was an attempt to boost sales in a segment (pony cars) that was dying anyway. Maybe the F body would have survived if GM had stuck with either the Camaro or Firebird and not built both. Ford could focus on the Mustangs (no pun intended) and did not have competing cars from the same company. Not building a car that would outshine a Corvette was a real problem that Ford did not have. Having the LS from a pure performance standpoint is overrated and the gap can be overcome easily by letting the LT 1 breathe (CAI and better exhaust is the easiest route). LT1s are torquier but the LS revs higher. OptiSpark issues were well sorted by '95, except if you lose your water pump (bad placement, engineers). That said, the LS is definitely a step up technologically, are easier to troubleshoot and tune, and has more aftermarket support (people want to LS swap toilets these days if they aren't flushing properly). I don't know where the content creator gets that the 4th Gen is a "big" car. Maybe compared to a contemporary Mustang, sure, but park a 4th Gen next to a 3rd Gen. The 3rd Gen is noticeably bigger, at least with an eye test, and looks portly in comparison to a 2nd or 4th Gen.

I had a '69 Camaro from 1978-'81. I was 21 when I got it, and thrilled to have a Camaro even though it was the 6 cylinder. It actually was a blessing with the gas skyrocketing with the 2nd oil shock starting in early 1979. My only complaints were that the dashboard was 'curling up' only 10 years later. Years later I saw unrestored '67 & '68's that did not have that problem. Also the '69 had a lot more plastic on the dash the first 2 years did not, which caused squeaking sounds. I still love the '69, but realize GM started chinsing on quality to save money with that model, unfortunately.

Had a "new" `67 -- 2bbl carb 327 (210hp or the like) and three on the tree and a vinyl roof... my wife at the time bought it during my first vacation in SE Asia and we drove the wheels off it -- 80K+ and two kids as I recall... traded for a VW-bus... (was a different world... you'd have to have been there...)

Thats a great point! The GTO was a couple years later but certainly a noble effort! Like a 4-door Camaro. Even if the styling was a bit bland. Totally forgot about that! Of course, it would not be as dramatic as me making fun of the SSR! ;-)

This is a great video. I just took ownership of a 6th gen (2016) with the RS appearance package. I'm still pinching myself over it. This is my second Camaro. Fittingly it's the last generation of Camaros since my first was the 1st gen (1967). So much full circle. I knew that the 6th gen shared the platform with the Cadillac ATS which was built in my home town. So I thought the Camaro was built there, too, but I wasn't sure. Thank you for the clarification. I had two Firebirds in the late 70's. Been in love with them ever since, but since they're a bygone brand now this Camaro is just plain perfect. There's a big difference between cars built back in the 60's and now. I've driven many of them experiencing the evolution. The 6th gen Camaro is just plain great.

I really like Camaros (and Firebirds), but due to my height (6' 5"), I just can't fit comfortably in them...ditto for Corvettes (which is why I currently drive a Challenger Scat Pack widebody w/6-spd). My favorite generation of Camaro (looks-wise) is the 4th-gen LS1 cars (i.e., catfish Camaro).

I own a 4th Gen Catfish as well. Convertible. The tire and rim combination I have makes it ride very well. Ya I know it's the base model size of P215/60r16 tires but that sidewall height really does enhance the ride quality. Plus that size is more readily available than the one it came with which was the P235/55r16s. They are hard to get through my work where we sell tires and to order them they want a pretty penny just for tires of that size.

I'm 6'5" tall as well, and if you want a fun older car to mod, may I suggest an 80's Monte Carlo SS? A LOT of my parts have been sourced from Camaros, almost to the point of it being more Camaro than Monte at this point. Mirrors from an 80's Camaro are direct bolt-on, and if you want to get decent braking, the four-wheel disc brake setup from a 97 Camaro bolts right up too (will need the front spindles from a 2005 Blazer, but no custom work). If you swap out the steel V-8 for an aluminum one you're looking at a sub-3,000 pound car. I have 295/50R15's on the rear.

Why folks piss and moan about bad Optis is that instead of replacing caps and rotors they replace the whole Opti with crap Chinese aftermarket junk from Auto Zone or supposedly "good" MSD units that are still junk. The overheating issues on those motors are largely due to people not following the directions on how to properly remove air from the cooling system when flushing the radiator. They employed reverse cooling in the LT1s, routing the coolant through the heads first instead of the blocks, requiring servicers to purge air through bleeders on top of the engine. The LT1s make better drag cars as the bottom end is much stronger than the LS1 (cast iron vs. aluminum). That said, the LS is definitely a step up technologically, are much easier to tune, and has more current aftermarket support (people want to LS swap toilets these days if they aren't flushing properly). I don't know where the content creator gets that the 4th Gen is a "big" car. Maybe compared to a contemporary Mustang, sure, but park a 4th Gen next to a 3rd Gen. Nice video, good work. Wheelbase - on Gen 5 and 6, this is longer than the K5 blazer and Chevy vans. Weight on these two generations require the higher horsepower. The weight of Gen 3 and Gen 4 is so much better. Basically, they built a stylish truck for the masses, with a chopped roof no one can see out of for Gen 5 and Gen 6, but they used enough caricature of a '69 to fool people into buying them, plus putting them in a movie didn't hurt. I had a '69 with a 6 cylinder and a Torque-drive. neat car, but truly '60s primitive. I also had a '98 Z/28. Truly a great car. I sold it with 256,000 on it.

I had a 13’ rs convertible v6 6 speed 300hp faster than my 71 vette 350 4 speed awesome car but upgraded to a newer vette!! I loved it while i had it though

I learned to drive at 13 on back roads in Ohio with my dad in a 83 Berlinetta with T Tops, the swivel console and a 5 speed. It was a super clean example that still don't have over 50k miles on it today. You would think the low horsepower would be a bummer but they have 240 ft lbs, with a 5 speed you can still light them up rolling at 30, and they sound so good with the t tops off. I would find you one, they are very reasonable and worth every penny when you drive it.

I had an ‘88 IROC Z. I currently have a ‘14 SS. My favourites are the ‘69 and ‘70 RS. least favourite would be the ‘82 and 4th generation. However, the 4th generation looked really good with the skirt package and stripes.

In the late 90’s when the LS came out, drag racers in Chicago were putting nitrous on them and leaving them stock otherwise. No one could beat them. Unless you had a car that was literally being brought out on a trailer, a nitrous equipped ls Camaro or firebird would destroy them. No exhaust, everything looked and sounded complete stock. It was a weird time…you could tell things were changing on the racing scene. The cammed out fox bodies had pretty much reached their end as far as running the streets. Also around this time, being a mustang owner I used to buy all the magazines. One particular one, (muscle mustangs and fast fords) told a story of how they were at a quarter mile track when the ls’s came out, and a firebird did some passes, bone stock, as it was brand new. They said it ran a high 12, on street tires, multiple times. Really wish I had kept that issue. The author may have been Jim Campisano. I remember them saying it was a 6 speed, that it was a formula (not a trans-am) & how shocked they were.

This video has given me some ideas for my 77 which I am planning to restore body to a 70 1/2, find a wrecked or cheap 6th gen to use the suspension and drive train... hopefully looking a little like the Roadster Shop Rampage on completion. I'm sure it will cost me into the 6 figures and a few years of my time.

(at 9:30) FYI: That 90hp "Iron Duke" 2.5 liter 4 cylinder engine was a design made under license from John Deere and was a tractor engine design. Chevrolet put in the same pistons, rings and connecting rods that they were using in the 305's & 350's. Yes, many of those engines are still running around inside the LLV Mail trucks today. The "LLV" stands for Long Life Vehicle and it sure has lived up to it's name. The bodies for those trucks were made by Grumman, the same company that made the lunar landing vehicles for the Apollo program and the frames for them is the same frame as the S10 pickup truck: same suspension and brakes too.

What day I got to say I had a 78 LT rally sport Camaro and it came with those aluminum factory mags and they were gold in between the fence on the mag. They look just like the one Z 28 and they were factory aluminum rims for this car that I had. It was a two-tone color and the gold part match the aluminum mags and the other color was black upon the top of the roof in the hood had a camel color interior

My first car was an ‘86 Sport Coupe with the 2.8L 6 and a 5 speed manual. I loved that car until I spun it in the rain and totaled it. My second car was a ‘91 RS automatic. It had an oil leak so I traded it in for a 2002 30th Anniversary SS Convertible with the 6 speed manual. I had that one until I got married and needed something a little more economical and family friendly. Third gen is still my favorite for obvious reasons, but I think the 3rd revision of the 2nd gen looks the best.

I bought a 2023 v6 auto 10 speed. A great value for the performance at like 40000. But so far I have had issues with the trunk, passenger seat, and the steering has a weird clunk you can feel when u turn left. Dealership fixed the trunk but refused to fix anything else.

I've had a '73 (350 4spd), '77 (6.6 auto), '88 (305 5spd), '10 (full load 2SS 6spd manual). Maybe more, but those are the ones I can remember! Pure "fun" to drive I'd get the '73 again. Nicest to drive? I'd get the '10 again (well, a '12 probably!).
