Exactly. When Bob Nardelli took over Home Depot 20 years ago, he demanded a “No cut” contract. After he wrecked everything, HD paid him $200 Million to go away. Bob sued, complaining that the $200 Mill meant he had to pay $39 Milll in tax. So HD paid the $39 Mill. It gets worse - Chrysler hired the doofus as CEO. 💩floats

1977, International Harvester CEO Archie McCardell made a “record breaking” $460k per year salary, with a $1.5Mil signing bonus… (Equivalent of $2.4Mil today with a $7.8Mil signing bonus in 2024) This was “record breaking” 45 years ago. 5 years later, Archie McCardell had tanked the multinational corporation with his extreme cost-cutting tactics and union-busting manipulation… International Harvester, which once held 70% of the global agriculture market, was gone by 1985. John Deere took its place. CEOs who get record pay, tend to not deserve it.

Tavaris gets his golden parachute, so he doesn't care, short-termist CEOs are the norm with old legacies, make the shareholder happy the next quarter is as long-term planning as it gets usually. Would a replacement really help Stellantis catch up when it comes to EV and smart car technology, or is it too little too late? They sure have dragged their feet for a long time, they might even be the tail end of the market's lazy compliance pack.

Few years ago the same would apply to Taiwan. No Korean cars due to a kind of rivalery. 5 years later, the streets are full of Korean cars. This is due to a) the Korean soft power cultural penetration with k-pop and k-dramas and b) the fact that their cars look and are great.

The executive decision to move their brands upmarket and expensive was disastrous but hard to argue the logic trying to avoid competing in the lower end of the market against the Chinese. i think Tavares has done well for Europe and the Peugeot & Citroen line ups, Fiat's new Grande Panda has a lot of potential, and even the new Lancia Ypsilon could be work out as a premium offering I think a lot of that is forgotten is how badly Ghosen messed up FCA and Chrysler & Dodge especially, and they are still cleaning up the mess from that and doing so may require some tough choices in the long run, Tavares may not be the best CEO for sure, but he was better than anyone in the FCA run mess, and if you have FCA holdovers trying to exert their will, it could really be bad news

No, only Peugeot progressed and that was because of its own CEO. The rest of the brands are stagnated and will soon face many problems. Stellantis sales are driven primarily due to its leasing car fleet sales. If it was for private purchases things would be very bad already for Stellantis in Europe. Unfortunately the annual sales report do not mention anything about leasing/private purchase break down.

Both VW and Stellantis CEO's have been slow to lead the transition to all electric vehicles. Adapt, change or go bankrupt. Nokia and Kodak were slow to transition to new technology. It did not end well for them. Legacy auto dealers are a nightmare for legacy auto makers. They gouged customers trying to buy electric vehicles. Legacy auto dealers abused their customers by adding market price adjustments to gouge their customers for EVs They added pricey add ons and other costs to pump up the prices and their profits. Tesla has the right idea. Buy online. No hassle. No sitting in a show room for hours. No salesman BS. No crazy markups. No I have to see my manager BS. With Tesla you can buy a vehicle in 5 minutes or less online. The dealers have no one to blame but themselves. The dealers are dragging the legacy auto makers down with them. The problem with legacy auto makers having slow sales leads back to the legacy auto dealers. They try to talk people out of buying and EV and want to put them in a gasoline car.
