Something in the AFS system went crazy and my left headlight beam kept going up and down. The tilt adjustment motor would not stop running and was getting very hot.

Hey Edbwoy. I enjoy your passion for the m45. I really enjoy the 2003 I bought a back in September. I was wondering if you had any advice on performance upgrades for this car? Also I am looking for the gps monitor because mine works intermittently. Do you have anything for sale ATM?
@EdBwoy5 жыл бұрын
Thanks Joshua. Unfortunately I don't have any 03 parts. For upgrades, not much really. I heard that the cars can now be tuned by UpRev, but it would be best to confirm with them (www.uprev.com/secure/) Otherwise, it is a pretty optimized platform and maybe you can do things to make it sound louder (exhaust work) or accelerate faster (differential swap)
@joshuagrube58495 жыл бұрын
@@EdBwoy Thanks for replying. I will check the UpRev upgrade. I was curious about the differential because I do a lot of highway driving and it tachs like 3k at 80 mph and I would like it to be more in the low 2's. What differential can be swapped into the m45?
@EdBwoy5 жыл бұрын
In that case, you wanna go the other way. An FX35 or Fx45 differential might be great for acceleration but will suck for cruising. The differential of a 2002 (only that year) Infiniti Q45 might be better for cruising, but will give up some acceleration. forums.nicoclub.com/post6785260.html#p6785204

Have you experienced any buzzing sound from around the passenger headlight section? Specifically the area where you can't access the AFS switch like you would on the driver side. I keep getting a buzzing sound there but only when its winter and extremely cold. I cant find explanation for that.
@EdBwoy3 жыл бұрын
No, I haven't, but I would follow the troubleshooting in the video. Switch off, harness unplugged etc. There is another video I once saw on youtube on how to adjust the motors if they were grinding. Maybe that would help.

I do miss having AFS on my M56S. Great job explaining it. You should take up graphical design with those skills 🤣🤣 Always make sure the hood is latched too.. Oops! 😲 I would think that the load sensor is the problem, since the motor is working. Only other thing I can think of is the travel stop switch in the light motor has crapped out. Requiring full disassembly of the light and Ohm meter to check. Good luck!

Hahahaha. I try with the sketching. Do you visit the nicoclub forums by chance? I have seen some impressive animators on KZbin, so with the right software (and available time) I'm sure I could tell a good story.
@EdBwoy5 жыл бұрын
And reading your comment, I'm thinking I should have done one more test - Jack up the rear to see if both headlights go up. That would confirm if the right side tilt motor was also functional. 1. If both went up, it's definitely an issue with the left motor. 2. If the right one does not go up, then the height sensor might be the issue tweaking and sending signal to both lights to constantly adjust. The up/down tilt is actually just considered auto-aiming, the AFS is the sideways swivel stuff. But both called Active AFS as a general term - I could have gone into more depth, but it was easier to stop the headlight motor since the new owner was taking delivery the next day. *There might be a part 2 to this*

My headlights seem as thought they are pointing down could this be because of a faulty system? I can barely see the road but when you stand in front of the car the headlights seem bright.
@EdBwoy5 жыл бұрын
If your car is lowered enough the headlights will react accordingly. Do they still swivel? You can test the up-down aiming to know if the motors still work. It's unlikely for both to randomly fail and face down

Sorry, I'm not familiar with those. However, I know that Toyota usually includes a fuse layout diagram in their owners manuals. That might be a place to start.

@EdBwoy5 жыл бұрын
@@fbodyws6ta actually neither one for me. I like factory lighting for these cars because they give proper light output. Aftermarket LEDs or HIDs might look bright when you take pictures, but sometimes they don't light up the road well enough. Or they just blind oncoming cars. I can't advise you on either type for your fog lights.

Well, it doesn't look like it, but I wouldn't know exactly how to check.. I recently bought it. Previous owner said he had LED lights installed.. I read/heard how you said you only recommend the factory bulbs. Is there a way I can adjust these ones to the right level? I believe it's the same headlight assembly, just aftermarket bulbs installed.

@@muhammadsuhaibnazar5348 if the tires (especially rear) are sunken under the wheel arch, the car would try to correct that. For both to point down, I'm guessing their common sensor is getting an off signal or the AFS module for some reason went bad. You can try jacking the rear end with the headlights shining against a wall to see if they start correcting upwards
@muhammadsuhaibnazar53484 жыл бұрын
So, the wheels don't seem to be sunken into the wheel arches. There's about an inch and half gap. I looked under the rear end, but I couldn't spot anywhere to place my jack to lift the car. So, I saw these plastic gears behind each headlight, under the hood, and marked them. Then, I checked to see if they had moved, comparing them against having the car on the inclined ramp in front of my garage and parking it on level surface inside the garage. The didn't move at all.

@@muhammadsuhaibnazar5348 so maybe the AFS module is bad? Does the front end look like it has been repaired after a collision?
