The biggest problem is people modding these and not getting a tune. Then they wonder why they get ringland failures or misfires.

What people forget is that subarus arent true sports cars. They are sedans with turbos and go into the "sports sedan" category and shouldn't be lumped together with sports cars(like Rugby and Football). True sports cars are built for sport car activities such as being able to handle being pushed to their limits often at high RPMs and a frame/suspension/cooling system that compliments that, (usually a 2door car, but very few 4doors can can be called true sports cars). But nearly all subarus are built for driving normally for the average driver and/or some light offroading(debatable these days).

Hit a deer with it and totalled it and got myself a 2017 WRX at the end of 2020 with 14k miles on it and I haven’t had any problems with it besides a leaking A/C condenser and leaking battery, everything else has been perfect on it for the last 2 1/2 years and can’t imagine anything going wrong with it anytime soon because I actually take care of it

Do not mess with the engine management or boost pressure. 300hp is enough for a rowdy launch and a rapid 0-60. Tuning and poor driver habits are the downfall of most Subarus. Dunno man... I got an 02 JDM Forester XT. Bought at 98k km it now has 250k km. Winter drifting, offroading, pavement launches. It hits redline everyday, and I drive it hard... All I've had to do to it is brakes, oil, timing belt and a radiator that got a rock chip. I've worn out the axles a couple times... The engine is still beautiful, doesn't burn any oil and pulls hard. She's just got a little rust now, but everything still works. My second Subaru after a lemon 2.5 impreza... The key to longevity is to get a 2.0 and keep it stock... Stock power, stock clutch, and stock sized rims. Change the oil every 5000-8000 km. Shift properly and drive it lightly while it's still warming up.

So far I've owned a Ford, a Chevy, a Jeep, a Honda, a Subaru, a Dodge, and an Isuzu. The Ford was my first truck and is still in my driveway, drive it at least once a week, and the Subaru is my daily driver(128 miles a day taking myself and my wife to work). From what ive found is all brands have their ups and downs, something at some point is going to break, wear is inevitable, and when you put a lot of miles on vehicles like i do, learn to fix the problems yourself. The Ford and the Subaru have been, for me, the cheapest and easiest to maintain and do repairs on, and have had the least amount of issues, the Honda was up there with them, but i just didn't like it as much. All in all, if i had to make a choice from my experience, if you want something easy to maintain, buy a Subaru, if you dont give a shit about maintenance and just want it to work, buy a pre-'97 300 i6 ford, if you want to be stranded 2-3 times a month, buy a Chevy or Dodge anything, and finally if you want an engine that blows while its not even running and will never find a replacement part on this planet, buy an Isuzu

Feel like anytime in the car community the word Subaru is always associated with WRX/STIs and their turbo boxers. I feel like the FRS/BRZ/86 platform is big enough where we have to specify that it’s the WRXs that suck to own. The NA boxers are great and reliable as long if you keep it NA.

Absolutely 💯 that's because, although toyota didn't make the parts or engine, their philosophy went into the entire car. They knew it couldn't take thrashing reliably with a turbo, so they refused it. The drive train being rwd lightened the engine load as well, something subaru would never have done. The novelty of a low center of gravity boxer is all toyota needed from subaru. In my book, they are toyotas built with subaru parts

Ive been driving my modified and tuned 05 STI over 2 years ago. Only 303 WHP, stock turbo, stock fuel system, full bolt ons. Only issue was my thermostat so far! They are great reliable cars if you know their quirks.

Wow, it's almost as if, not maintaning a car will result in it failing? Who would have thought! 80's and 90's Toyota [as well as 70's and 80's Mercedes] is an exception to this, those things refuse to die.

Bought my first Subaru, an Impreza, in May 2023. New. I have a delivery job with a lot of highway miles every week, approximately 3000. I get the oil changed every other week, and have changed the differential fluid twice and transmission fluid once. Thus far, everything seems good. It's a trooper of a vehicle and bought specifically for this job. I have no doubt my next vehicle will also be a Subaru.

Ive had two subarus now and my first one was a POS but it was my first car. My second bugeye has needed maintenance as it's a 20 year old car. Just about all of them will. But it's sitting at a comfortable 300hp with some bolt on and a tune. And it's been a soldier. It doesn't complain about hot or cold. It doesn't have miss fires or weird turbo behavioral issues. My gf initially was very anti wrx when I first got the car but she's driven it to work when her cars were down and has grown to love the car and the platform by extension. If you're trying to make big power; yeah go somewhere else. If you don't enjoy the idea of properly maintaining a car, go somewhere else. But if you like making enough power to have fun with and enjoy the everything these cars are. They're some of the best in the world.

Wait, so the main reason people don't like Subarus are because they can't be bad owners?? Sounds like a them problem. Take care of your car and you won't have issues. Have owned multiple Subarus and beat on all of them, no engine problems. Only issue I've been having is the 5 speed can't hold the power im making 😂

I have an 03 wrx, I just kept the engine completely stock (minus exhaust) and it has been fine minus an ignition coil going bad once. I upgraded plenty of other things on the car, but never touched the engine. Its incredibly fun and while not that fast, I really couldn't care less. If I wanted a high hp car I would get something else.

Well as a 35 yr Senior Master ASE almost everything u said about Subaru is wrong. They are incredibly dependable and need very little in the way of routine maintenance. I can't tell u how many camshaft seals and belts I've installed and outside of routine brake and occasional driveshaft boots they are rock solid. I made my living for many years working on import cars if all makes and a Subaru is as good or better than any of them. If someone buys a clapped out poorly modded car that's not the cars fault it falls on owner neglect. If the problems are corrected they are a superior vehicle.

I must have gotten a lemon. My 1995 Chrysler Cirrus is more reliable. My 2017 has been maintained. All the scheduled maintenance. I have spent $12k outside of the scheduled maintenance on repairs. Transmission went within warranty. Have replaced control arms 3 times now. All 4 Wheel bearings twice now. Back latch and hydraulic arms. Driver window motor just recently blew (1995 cirrus power windows still working fine). Misfire code popped up. I forgot what caused it but had that taken care off. Two brake calipers complete seized with regular brake changes. My Subaru is an absolute money pit.

That's why you suss legacy GT's or legacy 3.0r-b, usually owned by older people, just as capable for making power, depending where you are in the world, gen 4's came with a longer ratio 6 speed thats still just as good as the STI 6 speeds. TBSTI post fl gen 4 legacy is great, 2.5 turbo, brembos, 6 speed, bilstein suspension with STI Springs, basically just a gentlemens STI.

Suburus ruined their cars by making everything electronic inside, now you have to get Updates just to keep your RADIO working properly in a new car, and guess what!?! Unlike your phone, these Updates are NOT free after the warranty ends!! And the Sales people lie about it! Plus the cars have interior face scanning cameras that they lie about, and if that's not enough, they also track Everywhere you go, even if you don't have GPS and lie about this too!!! It's all a big secret. Why aren't more people talking about this unconstitutional invasion of Privacy???!!!???
