This past year, I experienced a 4-wheeling experience over the dunes in the Dubai desert in a 4-wheel drive UAE-styled 4RUNNER. I asked my Arabian driver about the maintenance and reliability of the vehicle. I was given the highest recommendations. The influence of this conversation a half world away resulted in my recent purchase of a 2024 TRD Off-Road 4RUNNER, and I am happy with my purchase. The dealership attempted to sell me an extended warranty, and I politely declined their spendy and unnecessary offer. After reading these reviews, I believe I made the best decision. David, your presentations are the best. I appreciate how factual your presentations are for consumers seeking quality, reliability, and value vehicles with anticipated years of driving safety, pleasure, and minimum maintenance. Thank you!

I own a 2023 Limited. This vehicle drives, rides so incredibly well. It’s so much fun to drive. Smooth as silk shifting. Comfortable ride. So quiet inside. The 4Runner feels so comfortable & solid. I even get 21 + miles to the gallon ( live in a rural area); driving in a normal driving mode. The Limited is more ‘Shinier’ than I’d like, however, such a fantastic vehicle I live with it. Maybe after it’s out of the 36,000 miles warranty I will ‘modify’ the parts that are shiny to ‘black-out’. This vehicle I will keep forever. I have no regrets. None . The 4Runner is the Best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I have owned trucks, sports cars, sedans, coupes, of many brands. Many were great, & I loved them. Honestly though, my 4Runner beats all of them. The 4Runner is one beautiful vehicle. Hands down the very best vehicle ever made. Don’t believe me. Go out & test drive one . Make your own decisions & judgement. You won’t be disappointed. You’re going to want to buy, on the spot; immediately.

Having owned two 5th gen 4Runners over the past 12 years, I REALLY miss my 2019 TRD Off Road Premium that I had to sell last year. I miss it A LOT! I had done so many modifications and made it one of a kind and distinctly mine. I'd buy it back, if I could. I was very reluctant to sell it. All those memories. The 4Runner name will always be very nostalgic for me, especially the 5th gen😊

@lunamaria1048 how do you feel about this American designed 6th gen? Even the TRD models won't even have frame mounted bumpstops just like the new Taco and they blow our pretty easy if you bottom out. I have a 2019 4runner ORP since new and love my reliable ol girl
@lunamaria10483 ай бұрын
@@makeveli3970 Ohhhh I have seen a video where a new Tacoma TRD Off Road did exactly that. TBH we know the 6th gen is the exact same vehicle, so we know it will have the exact same issue. To answer your question, I wouldn't buy the 6th gen, because it is just an American designed vehicle now, BUT lol I have the GX 550 Overtrail. I could express minor concerns about this as well, but so far, it is good!
@makeveli39703 ай бұрын
@lunamaria1048 The front shock mounted bumpstops are similar to a small sports car like a Miata that just weighs about a ton and stays on roads. This TNGAF (Toyota Not Giving A Fuck) platform is corporate greed. Had Toyota engineered a cost effective midsized platform, their engineers wouldn't have had to cheap out and strip down once great platforms to be no stronger than a 90s model Miata. Your GX 550 has single front frame mounted bumpstops. The 300 Series has 4 bumpstops in the front and all of these vehicles are based on that platform. Now the only way Toyota can make midsized affordable is to take away much needed technology that could be there if they had made a cost-effective, dedicated midsized platform. I have been driving Toyota 4x4s for 3 decades and saddened by this. We need private automotive manufacturing companies that can put customers before shareholders and investors

I know you probably love your new GX 550 (I do love my new Land Cruiser too) but the 4Runner will always be the iconic off-roader with unforgettable experiences. I also think of buying the last of the 2024s (almost bought a 24 4Runner TRD Pro last week) and I might still do that before it's too late. Anyways, we are supposed to bring yours and my vehicle to off-roading courses remember?
@lunamaria10482 ай бұрын
@@AutomotivePress I do love the GX 550 Overtrail! I wanted a proper body-on-frame 4x4 with capabilities like my last 4Runner TRD Off Road (with the KDSS), but with more modern technology and luxury interior, like the Defender I leased for 2 years. My only complain is the interior is great, but was a bit underwhelming, for the price. And the approach angle is the same as the previous 460, which was pretty bad lol. I'll see what aftermarket can help, event The 5th gen will always have a very special place in my heard, because 2 of then provided 12 years of my best adventures and memories😊. Thanks!

Thanks David! Based on research, family member experience, your channel, and the car care nut, bought a new 5th gen TRD ORP a month ago and my wife and I love it so far - 3K miles already doing road trips. We hope it will last 30+ years. Got oil changed at 800 miles just to be safe and plan to change every 5K. Have taken it off road and it is extremely confident. It was tough to negotiate because we had to order one but then one showed up with similar specs at another dealer before ours arrived and could play the dealers off of each other. I have been accumulating my list of mods that I will slowly purchase/install to keep it fresh. This is the first vehicle we have owned where both of us love it.

I'm on my 2nd 4 Runner, a 2020 Venture. Your videos are some of the best when it comes to education. I do take it off road about once / month and always try to lock the rear axle on a steep hill. I had rock sliders installed by 4WD parts when the truck was new,and they definitely have protected the underside,especially when it comes to rocks sticking out of the dirt. I just had Les Schwabb put some off road Toyo tires on it, same size as factory, and I'm good to go. Plan on leaving everything else stock. I don't have any desire to try any rock climbing or swamp driving. This truck has always gotten me where I wanted to go. I planned on keeping it forever when I bought it and everyone of your videos just confirms I made a good choice. This 6 cylinder engine is perfect for me ,with rising gas prices and all the talk of electric vehicles in the future. I have no interest in a 4 cylinder turbo engine that the new models come with. I think these "old school " 4 Runners will someday be collector vehicles like the Fj's that were sold here in the USA. If anyone reading this wants one, get one while you can !

Thanks David. Great summary of an absolutely amazing vehicle. In my opinion, the last Toyota truck made that's worthy of Toyota's nameplate and off-road prowess and durability. I've (and my parents and grandparents) had the privilege to own and drive Toyota trucks/SUVs in Africa, Europe, Middle East and North America, and grew up driving Land Cruisers in Southern Africa. It is extraordinarily unfortunate that Toyota has completely compromised that heritage with the engineered obsolescence and pandering to maximize profits with its modern trucks. It's starting to show in in customer response. My local Toyota dealer in Edmonton (Sherwood Park Toyota) has had the same Land Cruiser in stock (7 of them) for the last month, with no sales. I've driven them and done a side by side comparison with my 2023 TRD OR (Canadian spec with KDSS), and sure, it feels (is) faster, but that's it, in everything else that matters to me (very much aligned with your 30 advantages), the Prado is far inferior. It literally feels like a cheap soda can. We're buying two more 2024 4Runners (for my spouse and parents) to lock into what is absolutely the last great Toyota vehicle...

Car guys and girls love the 4Runner because it’s probably the most reliable consumer vehicle ever made. I’m on the fence do i get another one of these or wait for the new one! Too many good choices!

If any other manufacturer built a vehicle as solid, reliable, and with overall quality like the 4Runner, it would be an $80k vehicle.

Just purchased a 2024 SR5 Premium in underground earlier this year. Just got back from a 4,000 road trip with my kids. Saw many National Parks and made many memories! Love the 5th Gen!

David! Another great video; thanks a lot! However, I have a question that I would like to ask. Is TRD Pro worth the extra few thousands if you are not a serious off-roader? I would really appreciate it if you could answer this. ❤

My friend has a 32 year old 4Runner. That's what convinced me to buy mine. One day in the far away future, I'm going to die in my little house with my 2024 4Runner in the driveway.

Sir, is the moonroof meant to allow a few drips of water when I go into a car wash for example or if it rains heavy?

This sounds like my 2nd Gen 95 4Runner. She is built like a tank. Do they offer this Gen in 6 speed manual? I love my manual transmission. Great video 🙌🏽

Have a 5th Gen 4Runner and love it dearly but a 2nd Gen 2 door 5 speed is one of my dream cars. Think it’s one of the most under appreciated vehicles ever sold in the US. The 3.0 was a little wonky early on but just the same, that 4Runner is still basically a Hilux with rigid metal shell. Which is kinda nuts…in the very best way possible.

Would like to get your opinion on the Land Cruiser Diesel. We rented one for 17 days and drove on every road in Iceland. Through lots of rivers and streams. No problems whatsoever.
