Hello, I have Mercedes E class w211 combi 2005 and I have just installed new Arnott Air Compressor and new rear Arnott Air Suspension. Now I have a one question as to whether the compressor should work from time to time while driving or should only work once after switching on the car? The compressor runs in my car from time to time while driving and I'm afraid that there is a air leak somewhere Thank you in advance

I can imagine after years some videos will disappear as experts move on to other careers, etc. But here you have given such helpful information to so many that will be useful 10yrs later still as someone is nursing or rehabing a W211. I wanted to offer a special thanks for the effort to take off the front bumper just to make the demonstration so much better; that was a lot of extra work for the benefit of viewers - such a gesture of good will. I am responding to a 5350 fault - A9 1y1; DAS throws a further communication error when trying to release pressure in any of the struts. My add here is that from a flying off truck debris near accident our E500 had the undershield and fender liner ripped out. I waited too long to put new (inexpensive) covers back on. In northern climates just a day or two of driving turns the entire compressor assembly into a "crystal palace" of road salt. Of course, the assembly did just fine but it is taking direct hits of water and road salt from the front wheel. My point is that recovering is perhaps more of a near urgent matter. In particular, at least one of the air lines is just 3 or 4 centimeters from the wheel. Finally, it passed through a dealer oil change type service and the technicians didn't even flag the underbody and fender covers . . . Again, thank you for the nice video.

For replacing compressor i wonder why remove bumper? You get it out easily trough wheel space.

He literally said they removed the bumper so we could see better bruh.

Any ideas why my airmatic system pressure is at 0 bar but the car is up and the compressor runs? I had leak-- or a code for it anyway -- and the pressure wouldn't go above 2.2 bar and the compressor would shut down after 10 seconds of engaging. Took everything apart, didn't see any obvious leaks, put it back togethe. car is up now, no errors, but the system reads 0 bar for airmatic pressure.

Not an expert but as I read comments afterwatching video I can reply here. It is my understanding that there are pressure sensors for at least each strut and perhaps an additional diagnostic sensor. The DAS system shows readings of pressure for each strut and also allows a compressor test based on what I think is a closed local-to-the-compressor check (up to 12 or 14 bar). The additional sensor for testing the compressor may be within the compressor assembly and I assume the pressure sensors for each strut are within each strut. An expert may know that there is actually only one sensor and the system can expose each portion selectively. With all that has been written about the W211 airmatic, I have yet to read a really detailed explanation for the entire system.

On a 2003, E500 MB-- I'd like to know where is the hose with water/vapor barrier filter (with the upward arrow showing in the this video) is attached to, the end that is closest to the filter? One end leaves the air compressor pump, the other closest to the filter connects to what?? HELP. THX

Does it take any reprogramming from a dealership or shop to replace it or can you just put the new one in?
@stevenweseman14733 жыл бұрын
I am not an expert but read a lot and play with the DAS on my 06 E500. I don't believe reprogramming is necessary. I have seen comments on various forums that when level sensors are changed some form of leveling calibration may be required.

@@stevenweseman1473 - how do we know if the pump is the issue? My friend left his e500 sitting for 4-5 months and the entire car (all four wheels) is lower.

Where dos the hose from intake airfilter go?the upper end
@antesusic52925 жыл бұрын
Where does the top hose of airmatic air filter go to? I was missing mine when I got the car and I can see that the bottom one goes to the compressor, but where does the top one go? The airmatic air filter is the thing on the right side of the compressor from the view in this video.

I think if you pause the video at certain points you can see this. The experts in the video show a line break right at the inlet to the compressor....so it is filter housing with inlet and outlet.....the outlet of filter housing goes to point where they show "leak" in line towards the beginning of the video. The tubing is not special for this. Regarding the inlet to the filter housing....my E500 definitely has tubing there but I have not traced exactly where the ultimate inlet is....I suspect it is routed up within engine housing. The filter seems like an important part to protect the compressor but not sure how moisture is handled in general. You may be able to substitute a different housing and filter as long as it is for the same type of service.

Is there a way to manually pump air into the airbags?

So if hose has leak it will kill the pump ??
@rafayl19 Жыл бұрын
Im 2 years late but it delays the pump making it less effective. So now the pump works overhours, and will indeed die sooner. My tube leaked air, so my pump turned on every 10min.

Yes watch this video and remove all front!!ahahah they are specialist with gold watch :-D Of course it is not necessary
@SPHINX1444 жыл бұрын
It's not necessary. You can just remove the wheel and the wheel well liner. However, the extra room will give you a stress free environment to remove the pump easily with plenty of clearance to maneuver your tools. The bumper is not very hard to remove and you don't have to undo the bottom part of the bumper.

This is not the way you want to remove this airmatic pump remove the driver side wheel-wheel well -disconnect the air lines -electrical connectors - and finally remove the 3 screws

I have the front passenger suspension down. At first I thought the strut was bad. Could this be the pump instead? Does anyone know if the pump malfunctioning could cause only one strut to lower?
@MotownModels5 жыл бұрын
Generally if only one is lowering, it'll be that individual corner. Could also be the associated line. If the back 2 are lowering together, its probably the valve block. When the pump itself is bad the pump wont fill the air tank fast enough, and you'll get a "visit workshop" message on the dash.

I bought a w211 with aftermarket struts. Not airmatic struts. Buy when I go down the ramp to my underground parking structure I hear like what sounds like a compressor starting for about 3 seconds. Then goes off. Did they forget to remove the compressor? What causes the compressor to start?

you dont have to remove the bumper

you do if you want to be able to see what they are doing in the video.
