I have the 3.0t tuned to 430. I hang with 2018 mustangs and similar muscle cars. Its pretty fun. And I drive it daily, even when we get 30cm snow here in Northern Sweden :)

The only thing I can think of similar to this, engine-wise, these days is the IS 500. RC F is too expensive to really replace this, but unfortunately there's no RC 500 - that would be a true competitor... naturally-aspirated, 7300-RPM V8 in a compact premium car. Mmm. I've driven an IS 500 and it's more of a grand-touring car kinda like the S5 as well. Not super sharp, but felt very similar to my IS 350.

This is my neighbours car and we go for drives now and then (I drive a 996 911) and I can confirm this thing is ludicrously loud and epic!! That V8 sound makes me laugh out loud with joy just like Martin every time. Big S/O to Hasan for the nice build! In the end its always about the experience, not the numbers.

Damn that nostalgia. Yea, you gotta call it nostalgia. Without looking it up, this car came out in 2007 I guess. A kid born back then almost finished high school. This car really got me into cars. The boss of my mom got an S5 as like the first Audi S5 in Germany or at least in the region. I will never forget the first time I heard that modern V8. That sound profile. So clean, so modern, yet so powerful. Like a helicopter. Got to drive it later and damn, compared to modern cars this is a dinosaur. Like Max said. A linear performance delivery, more like a (sports-)truck. But such a handsome one! The job they did on this exhaust is marvellous. No stupid PoPZ AnD BAnGz but only clean V8 babbling.

In 2008, the Audi S6 had a V10, the same used in a gallardo lp 560. Now,it uses a v8. Now the S5 has a V6 (diesel)

Such a great video! Ive got the same car. Ive changed the exhaust system and added a throttle controller unit which has increased the response very well. The sound from the exhaust is fantastic! My neighbors love the morning cold starts

These cars are actually faster than they are given credit for, (although I know they are still not that fast)..a family member of mine has owned a 4.2 6 speed auto S5 since new in 2010, and has covered about 125,000 miles. It started idling very poorly when cold around 80k miles and I begged and pleaded him for years to have the carbon cleaning done. Finally, he gave in about a month ago and did it. The difference in performance is shocking. It’s also part of the reason for the lame upshifting and downshifting…after the cleaning, the car is WAY faster than it was, shifts a lot faster and smoother, and just runs like a completely different car. To prove my point I ran 100-200km/h and dragy verified ran 17.5s before and 13.7s after! It’s like a different car now and back to how I remember it when he bought it new.

You need to find the V6 supercharged version. More tunable engines with that godly supercharger whine when the air induction is changed. Can't beat the V8 sound though

I went 265kmh in Germany last year in my V8 S5 Manual and I was surprised at how comfortable it felt doing those speeds. Was scared shitless. I got it out my system and now barely ever go beyond 160kmh 😂

@@t8506 I drive the V6 version, to be honest, it rocks! The V6 engine has a better power to weight ratio, I think. The supercharger is also amazing, and allows for incredible chip tuning potential, or even pulleys, if you want to. The only downside is that it doesn't sound like the V8...

I think this video sums up an era gone. Sound is so important to the driving experience, that’s why we spend much $$$ trying to modify our exhaust, speed is second but how often are you driving on the limit? In my opinion, most ppl should not have anything over 300hp.

Yes,engine lose some power but it can be fixed with intake valve decarbonisation and with intake manifold decarbonisation

I have the manual 6-speed V8 S5 with exhaust and K&N and though mine has 125,000 miles (200ks), it is (or at least feels) way quicker than this one - doesn't sound quite as epic though. Nice car and nice review. Love my S5 :)

One good thing on this S5 is, the Brakes really aren't that expensive^^ They're the same as on a 3.0TDI no fancy Ceramic Stuff^^ And I think the Reason why, this one is so sluggish, are these ultrawide Tyres. It should go to 271kph per Spedo if it's still locked down, mine does ;)

Outrageous exhaust! It's amazing how different the S5 and RS5 are. RS5s scream and need to be revved to get to the power, the S5 is so much more relaxed and easy going. The zf 6hp get jerky and laggy with age and a rebuild should help with how lazy it is. These FSI engines suffer from carbon build up which can sap power but the elephant in the room is the dreaded timing chains. Otherwise visually, I personally feel they have aged very well.

5.8sec 0-100 with 220k km? I won't see the mileage as an excuse because my A6 with the 3.2 V6 does about 6-6.4 seconds with 320k km although it would probably benefit from brake boosting and FSI cleaning. I thought the 100 extra hp and torque would help it out a bit more than what I see here... So basically I got almost the same performance with less fuel consumtion while cruising... apparently

These engines never had the oem figures back in the day neither do they now. Does not matter if its a Audi 4.2 , mercedes 6.2 or 5.5 or the bmw 4.0, 4.4 or 4.8. they all had less hp back then. However the bmws engines are actually still quite moving when maintend well.
