Remember when you used to see Land Rovers trekking through the Amazon and crossing rivers with water all the way up to the windows. When you could buy a base utility vehicle like a Land Rover or even a Jeep that just had vinyl seats and no carpet or tons of electronics that would get destroyed by water. Why don't manufacturers offer a bare bones SUV like that anymore? No new Land Rover could even think about doing something like the Camel Trophy unless they completely waterproofed all the electronics and stripped them to replace all the luxurious interiors. Manufacturers should offer a totally stripped version of their SUV's like the Jeep Wrangler that you can literally hose down the interior and not ruin anything like the old ones.

The black inner linings for the wheel arches extend outside and are exposed for about looks like 40mm above the tire and from a distance it just looks like gap between the tire and the body making the car body look like it is riding to high and looks gawky and similar to the Ford Everest which looks like it about to fall over if it goes around a corner .

Like to see one of these equipped and take part in the G4 Challenge - like many old model Discos did. It may well be very 'capable' on a pre defined (by Land Rover) off road course - anyone who has been on the Land Rover experience days will know exactly what I mean.

All UK cars come with air suspension and terrain response. So whichever disco you go for, it'll be a goodie.

In the UK this Discovery is £10-15K overpriced and that is one reason why there are hardly any to be seen driving around. It is a lot more than the new X5 and I know which one I would rather own. Also, the design is a bit radical and not for everyone. The offset rear number plate looks strange and the driver's view is greatly restricted by the rear centre headrest - what a mad idea!

Mate if any review is too glowing it becomes unbelievable. It just sounds like you've been paid by Landrover. It probably is a great car but the way you've laid it out, it sounds like it's the greatest cruiser, 4x4, luxury hauller and most sexy car ever built. Turn it up mate! Too much bullshit here.

Just like when the new range rover and range rover sport came out, people were bitching about the design, mainly people who couldn't afford one. The new ones outsold the old ones, therefore land-rover knew what they were doing by making them the way they did. their is nothing wrong with the new range rover direction, people just enjoy bitching about everything and fear change or different.

Land Rover - a tow truck driver's dream come true: Walter M. Takes one of these to Death Valley NP, turns down the dirt road to Race Track, uses the hydraulics to raise ground clearance and speeds on his way! Until he happens on a shallow gully cut across the road during last winter's storm. When the low profile tires quickly compress, the diminished suspension travel (from using the hydraulics to raise ground clearance) fully compress and in a mater of milliseconds, two tires and two rimes are destroyed, However, this is only the beginning of Walter's problems as the nearest town that has replacement parts is hundreds of miles away!

Lexus GS starts at $52,000. Discovery starts at $50,000. Now it is up to you to think which offers better value such reliability and drive experience.

No matter how much I force myself to like the new look of the Discovery, I just can't. I am not warming up to its new design, even though I've seen it many times in the auto shows, and look at it in several angles. I'm sorry, but the utilitarian look and heritage of Land Rover is dead, being victimised by what the market demanded, its not even anymore a proper SUV, without the separate ladder frame chassis, its just an ordinary enlarged crossover. Better buy a Land Cruiser 70 or buy old Land Rovers.
