Thank you for taking the time to put this medium sized estate comparison together. It certainly doesn't appeal to the widest of audience but it is one of the very few out there. It provides a really good mix of practical observations and things that could be deal breakers when shopping for such cars. Please keep these REV videos coming, they get better by the episode. I particular enjoy the jokes and growing chemistry between the presenters.

I've got the Skoda Octavia estate SE L 2 l diesel with DSG. Fast, very comfortable and reasonably well built. Compared with my previous Mondeo 2.0l disel Titanium X BE the Ford is leagues ahead with build quality and handling. To be honest though the Skoda DSG is gorgeous to drive with oodles of grunt and makes the Mondeo feel sluggish on acceleration and response.

It's funny how tastes differ between countries. In continental Europe, most automotive magazines and websites praise the Peugeot for its solid dynamics and chassis, yet the only country saying it is uninspiring and too soft is Britain...

Skoda is not anymore a budget car, price looks good when it says from ..., but if you go for better engine and some spec it will climb up much more than other brands.. currently the Peugeot 308 SW 1.5 diesel 130hp with loads of specs is sold in Slovakia for about 18k€. The similar Skoda will not go under 20k.

and the 1.6 TDI is paired with archaic 5 speed manual box. I found deals on 308 SW 1.2 130 hp AT for under 18000€. Octavia Combi 1.5 TSI DSG is over 21000.

There is a good reason why not all cars have built in satnav. For my Skoda it was a €600 option & you are tied into that software. Plug in stand alone units start at €50 & you can take with you for other use. Also the smart phone link up always uses the latest software & is free. Finally, when I am on a new route I read road signs & consult a paper map if needed.
@russcattell955i6 жыл бұрын
Although GPS is great for locating your position on the planet, some of the satnav route software is woeful at finding the best route. I have a GPS chartplotter on my boat but calculate the navigation myself.

The Octavia's boot pillars are insanely wide, virtually no-one talks about vision around the pillars in motors, as for needing sat-nav, well given the propensity for them to be frankly dog shit and worse distracting for drivers they should never be allowed in motors at all. Doubly worse is when you get media screens in them so even more crap for drivers to fiddle with and have an excuse for mowing some unsuspecting person down! Out of the three if I had to choose it would be the Pug but I'd rather have a leon ST or a Civic tourer in this class.

livc444111 This is old news, there have been reports for years that loads of people simply cannot see the dials in 208 and 308. It is an absolutely crap design. I can see the dials in 3008, Peugeot has done a much better job at making them easier to see but 208 and 308 are a awful.
@tonyb12236 жыл бұрын
There should be no issue once you set up the driving position on the 308, the 3008's got it spot on and having had both a 208 and a MK 2 308 (im 5ft 10), I had no issues finding a comfortable position where i can see the dials on any of them. Aircon, yup it can be a pain, sort of fixed in the 3008 with a shortcut button but Peugeot used the same interior on its pre and post facelift 308 (this looks like a pre facelift which is a little confusing as the post has more safety features).

Not quite. If you actually watch this video, you will learn that the Octavia is longer, faster, more relaxing, more powerful, just better, and cheaper than the Golf. It also offers more room for entertainment by Škoda jokes than the Volkswagen does. Those are reasons why Octavia won gold and Golf got the silver.

In fact interior looks the same but when you drive it, Octavia is really noisy car. I had a chance to drive Peugeot with automatic 6 speed gear box and it feels really better than Octavia's. It is transparent for the driver. Octavia's automatic gear box is really slow.
@kristiaan15 жыл бұрын
@@lumajs 1) octavia isn't cheaper in all markets 2) octavia feels way cheaper on the inside compared to other cars 3) octavia may be more relaxing but tend to understeer way more in moose test compared to golf or 308 for that matter 4) faster? if so, by minimal margin. it's got the same engines as the golf.
