What Happens If You Put Vegetable Oil In Your Engine? (You Won't Believe It!)

Can a car run on vegetable oil instead of engine oil? In todays video we find out using my 1994 Ford Ranger with over 160K miles on the clock. Granted, this truck is known to be able to take a beating 😂
All we used in this video was 1 1/4 gallon of vegetable oil which equates to about 5 quarts of oil which is what the 2.4L engine in this Ranger takes during an oil change (and a new filter of course) My ranger had not gotten an oil change since 2016 (per the oil filter) so it was definitely due for one. How will it run using vegetable oil?

I'm from Indonesia and have been using a mixture of cooking oil + engine oil for 6 years with a composition of 50:50, and have never had a problem until now. the engine sound becomes smoother and more powerful In my country many people have used it for years😁😁

Depends on how old is your car. Must be as old as this one. Then yes. But you could also pour baby oil in it. It would run just fine.

The danger ranger 😂 I honestly didn’t expect much to happen, but vegetable oil has got to flow like water when that hot so it’s gotta be doing some internal damage and extreme bearing wear lol. But heck, it could run for 10k miles with no issues, you never know. Would be interesting to drain the veggie oil into a clear bin and see what it looks like, see if there’s any metal in there and what not. Enjoyed this one!

Back in the day in europe farmers often used vegetable oil for engine lubrication but you have to change it out regularly. Just dump the old oil in the tank and put the fresh vegetable oil in the engine. Works perfectly fine. For cold weather you would want to put some petrol (5-15%) into the vegetable oil to keep it flowing and you can use pure (99%) alcohol (ca. 5% into the petrol first before mixing it into the vegetable oil) to reduce the ignition temperature of the vegetable oil mixture also called Schur-Mixture. It's basically self made bio-diesel. So both as fuel and as engine oil it's perfectly fine to use vegetable oil you just need to take care of it, which most people are just not prepared to do.

Canola oil actually adheres to hot metal quite well so the oil mix in the vegetable oil is very important.

My dad has a 1987 ranger 2wd, 6 cyl., 5 speed long bed he bought new that was a beast, but now in field bad shape. He also has a 1988 ranger 4wd, 6 cyl., 5 speed long bed with a plow that he bought used off the side of the road and also a beast. The rear end gears got stripped and still ran when put in field many years ago. I love driving those awesome trucks.

I have a 1996 Mazda B4000 which is the same as a Ford Ranger. It has the Ford 4.0 V6 in it and it has 407,000 miles on it. It went without an oill change for 5 years and never had new spark plugs in it until recently and it's still going

I'm very curious about the results. Because today, oddly enough, in Indonesia there is a trend of using a mixture of cooking oil and engine oil as a lubricant for cars and motorbikes. Some even use 100% cooking oil to lubricate their cars and motorcycles! They believe that using cooking oil as a lubricant can clean the engine from stubborn sludge, and can even make the engine last longer. I don't believe in it myself, but the problem is that a lot of people are affected by it and they say that it's true that their vehicles have become very comfortable to use and the dirt in their engines is gone when the engines are disassembled. Can you experiment with opening the engine bay before and after using cooking oil to lubricate your car? I'm really curious, so many say their machines get really clean! But I'm afraid to try it, I'm afraid my car is damaged.

If you change your oil regularly or at half of the recommended maximum milage, you probably never got an oil sludge problem. Only noob got an oil sludge, while the pro is always thinking about tune up or carbon cleaning, or preventing carbon build up. Never trust about vegetable oil can clean up your engine, only a delusional person eat that 💩 But yes if you mix some cooking oil with engine oil, it will preventing sludge build up, because cooking oil contain acid, if you want to mix it 10ml or 20ml is okay, as long you know what you're doing. I have tried 100% cooking oil mixed with oil additives, it work, but the smell of cooking oil got burn in the machine, it is really awful, and it probably can be harmful to humans.

The reason it has good oil pressure is because Canola oil was originally designed in Canada to be a motor oil.

Any updates on the engine? Is it still running as desired? I have just started to run Canola oil in my Toro Lawnmower because it is a 'no oil change" engine. Just add oil as needed. I imagine someone should do a viscosity test on the oil to give an idea of ho it actually compares. It is a common misconception that the thinner the oil is, the more will go past the rings. In actuality it is the other way around. I would love to see a follow-up video on this.

I tried this in my diesel truck. After 2,000 miles it came out as a slick sludge. I think canola oil has a detergent quality which cleans out the crud that was in the engine, but it also plasticizes at high temps. I also tried in an old v10 ford and it seems to be ok after a few dozen miles.

A lighter weight oil has more fluidity, the vegetable flows like a 0 weight, should have less internal resistance and better fuel mileage, downside is it will breakdown quickly and oxidize. Also you can fry some spuds.
