Beautiful and interesting Asian history in the Pacific Northwest. Not enough credit is given to their valuable contributions to the land and rich diverse history to the area.

Amazing memories of Hood River, building railroads, land clearing, homesteading, internment and of course Matsutake hunting. Wow.

Great video. Seeing old photos of family like that brings back good memories that we continue to build upon today!

Nostalgic and sentimental. Matsutake hunting seemed to be a part of Sansei youth. Retrospectively, the experience was a generational teaching moment in Japanese culture. Head down, perseverance, patience, calmness - gaman. Internment was the ultimate challenge of gaman.

Amy Peterson! We did some sort of Girl Scout training together many years ago. Your daughter was a counselor at Arrowhead when one of my daughters were there. Homer Yasui befriended my dad when I moved my parents to White Salmon. Love finding and eating matsutakes and really helped my parents not mind moving here as much. Great video. Thanks.

Great video - in the video they said several times the japanese word for mushroom hunter... mushroom hunting? Matsutake-gaudy was what it phonetically sounded like. What is that word, can anyone tell me more??
@ModernForager3 жыл бұрын
OK, sorry to reply to myself - Tristan just answered on Instagram - matsutakegari is the word.- I think a noun for "mushroom gathering"... kind of like a picnic - let go on a matsutakegari.
