Another great video Jonathon, thanks for sharing. In June I did a reverse trip of what your doing now. I went from my home in Hudson Valley, NY, to Montanas Glacier Park. I was living out of my minimalist truck topper build (Im jealous of seeing you stand up making dinner, LOL) for 17days (6000miles) I think the best mod i did was to install a simple DC to DC charger setup. Never had to worry about the battery status. I was running a small waeco fridge, camper lights, and charging electronics at night. For a few hundred dollars and a couple hrs on work it was worth knowing i alway had a battery that was topped off. Thanks again for sharing and enjoy the rest of your trip

Just be aware that with a lithium battery you cannot rely on voltage to know the state of charge, as the battery will show very little change in voltage until it is almost discharge, then voltage will drop abruptly. Best way, is using a battery monitor like a Victron BMV-712

Your lithium battery is actually probably only at 25% state-of-charge when at 13V. If there are some loads it might be higher. While DC-DC charger are nice and required for a larger battery banks, for a 100ah battery a direct alternator-to-house-battery connection is just fine. You need to add an isolation relay to ensure that your chassis battery does not drain your house battery when the engine is off but that's it. Use 4 gauge wire and an ignition triggered 200 amp isolation relay as well as an 80 amp inline fuse and you are done. This will not harm either your alternator or your battery. Try to keep connections as short as possible. Your alternator will probably only charge your house battery to about 85% but that's fine for lithium batteries unlike SLA batteries.

I tried those Shin noodles and the seasonings are excellent! It makes a nice ramen, but if you don’t use them now. Use them on a Nissan Soy or Beef Ramen noodles, you won’t be disappointed. I used them on wide egg noodles. I boiled the wide egg noodles, then drained them some, not all, and used the seasonings plus I added shiitake mushrooms that I sautéed in butter with chives and water chestnuts with a little of the seasoning. Pour into the noodles with water. You can add more soy and oyster sauce to taste. Take some water with cornstarch and make a slurry, pour in the the mixture and heat it will thicken the sauce. Dig In!

You can install a smart battery isolater that will charge your house battery when your truck is running and the starter battery is fully charged. You can have a switch between it and your l-ion battery that you manage yourself if you want to run the l-ion battery down to the recommended level before you charge it up again. Maybe you already have that installed, but if not, it's worth the effort and cost in my humble opinion. :)

You don't even need a generator or an electrical system to go camping. I've done a 4000 mile and a 2000 trip in the back of my van. Took out the seats and just threw a memory foam mattress on top. All of our gear was on our bed during the day and then we moved it to the front seats and the back well to sleep. I still do overnighters all the time getting off on Friday and just sleeping at the trailhead before hiking over the weekend. Hell, I think your videos with the camper shell show how minimalistic you can get and you could have some awesome trips out of that thing. You even have youtubers sleeping in their sedan doing trips, might not be comfortable but it works to get out there. Guess what I'm trying to say is that you don't need anything really to get out. Get your car, bike, backpack, anything and you can get out in nature and make it work.

As others have undoubtedly noted, Lithium batteries don't register voltage like lead-acid. They maintain a very high and steady voltage and then drop dramatically during the last bit of charge. I found this out the hard way, thinking I was still close to a full charge when I was actually almost out of juice.

There are other brands but for the money Renogy is good stuff. I have 2 100 Watt panels and a 40 amp charge controller. use a 400 AM Hour battery and 2000 Watt inverter. No problems staying charged up with solar, The DC/DC, and the alternator. Can even use my air of the battery. Dont need a generator at all. and for the price of that Honda you could have done a entire solar, Charger, Dc/Dc, and inverter! Get over to Burt Dam in Olcott, NY.
