Amazing to see my request being fulfilled. Thanks a lot! Also fun fact - VAAC Harrier was an old twin seat plane with FBW system added in the backseat (front seat pilot was there only for safety reasons)

Just to point out it was done in the Falklands...as usual it wasn’t done by the US first.

Hostile Skies: The Battle for the Falklands - David Morgan. He had to come into the Hermes with very low fuel, too low to allow him to do a vertical landing, so he did a rolling landing, in the dark and bad weather. From memory.

Christian Maas uh huh...except someone somewhere has yet agin thought “Murica! Only we could do this. Let’s claim we did it to develop something for someone else because they’re too dumb to have thought it up for themselves.” Despite the fact the RAF landed Harriers like this all the time, and I’m sure most operators of the Harrier do/did. However, it’s then led to a post on KZbin by someone asking an innocent question because they believed it. Just like the claim that VIFFing was ‘invented’ by the US Marine Corps. There’s life outside the US, but Murica!

This is even possible with the heaviest harrier stores loadout (about 10300lbs iirc) and full fuel, if a little difficult. No excuses to push that doorbell ever again!

So u want to be 50-60 degree nozzles until 300ft height from touch down then between 75 and 77 degrees. Also try and maintain 10degrees alpha. Your landing speed will be dictated by your gross weight

It’s never made sense why the Royal Navy Built two supercarriers only to skimp on the catapults and buy 35Bs instead of Cs.
@leggett22874 жыл бұрын
Because it was estimated to cost £1.5 billion! plus the EMALS at the time was unproven and full of glitches. But mostly blame the RAF for the carriers not haveing CATOBAR.

Money. It was either 2 ski jumps or one emals in their budget constraints

Leggett 228 fiddlesticks. Sure, a steam pump and a bit of aluminum connected to a nose wheel...costs 2’billion dollars...
@PaVVroo4 жыл бұрын
@@Papershields001 For the Ford class it costs around 800 milion 2008 US dollars. Even american officials criticise it.
@leggett22874 жыл бұрын
@@PaVVroo yes because it's that simple 😐, don't hate on me its just what BAE systems quoted to the MOD, and if you know BAE it'd probs of gone up to £2 billion. Also no carrier built in the 21st century will use steam catapults, theyre 60s tech.

Cool i would really like to know what causes that oscillation in the Harrier and if there's any way of countering it? so far it's happened like 90% of my landing attempts resulting in either crashing into the carrier or needing to go around

i thought i read somewhere that US f-35s are going to have to land on the UK's new carrier since the US marine's carriers arent big enough for this rolling F-35 landing?
@kodefashmodefa4 жыл бұрын
@Brian Coley the article i read made it sound like they had to land there to land with stores, leave the stores on the hms queen Elizabeth and the hms prince of Wales. It gave the impression that the marines were there because the america class ships couldnt recover heavy jets.
@PaVVroo4 жыл бұрын
@Brian Coley Weapons get more and more expensive, also in XXI century dumping fuel into the sea is quite unpopular.
