my favorite sneaky moment from this episode is when aang tells Katara she's still a kid it actually juxtaposes how katara is harded and forced to mature by war while aang hasnt been forced to deal with it yet

Appa is 6/106 Aang is 12/112 Katara is 14 Sokka is 15 Zuko is 16 Uncle Iroh is 58-63 (age never given) The bending's are based on real martial arts. List is in Avatar cycle order. Fire is based on Northern Shaolin Air is based on Baguazhang Water is based on Tai Chi Earth is based on Hung Gar All music in it is original. Great soundtrack. Arrow on Aang's head mean he has reach the title of Airbending Master. Appa's arrow is just fur pattern. Most creatures in this world are made up of 2 or more animals from our would. Appa is bison and manatee. This is a cartoon not a true anime but it's beloved by anime fans so much that most considered it a honorary anime. This is 1 of the greatest shows to be made. And in most people view (me included) it's the best cartoon to ever be made

This show is thematically mature but it never stops being family friendly. It's also a masterclass on how to write a phenomenal story that anyone of any age can appreciate.

I just hope the live action adaptation is gonna live up to the original. *SPOILERS* past this point just in case Dan and Dean happen to see this comment, Have you seen the trailer yet? That shot of Aang gliding down towards the fire nation island on the solstice alone gave me chills, ripped straight from the cartoon😍. I’m so excited for the future of this franchise and hopefully 10 years from now we’ll even be watching the end of the Live action Legend of Korra show 😊

Welcome to excellence! New sub for ATLA. This is the best show you will ever watch. Period. Beautiful illustration, great animation, stellar fight choreography, mature themes with smart humor, exquisitely-measured doses of lore drops, and fantastic storytelling. Book 1 is definitely more kid-oriented, but it gets darker and more serious as you get farther into the series. All of your questions will generally be anticipated and answered by the writers. Be patient. Enjoy!

Hell yeah! Avatar can have a "kids' show" vibe occasionally in the beginning, but it eventually matures past that. I mean, it's still always appropriate for kids, but doesn't feel limited by that in its maturity level apart from a few moments near the start (imo). Although the characters are also kids, so the moments aren't out of place.

Congrats!! Like everyone has posted, this is a great show. My, and my daughter's, favorite cartoon. It had stuff she enjoyed at age 5, and now that she's much older she gets the adult parts of the show. It starts slow and very kid friendly. But, the themes and topics are complex and very adult.

Yeeesssssssss. Just so you know (if no one has said it already), this show is one of the top 5 animated shows of all time. I don't know how far you are in the show on patron, but I would look up who Mako is at some point before you do "The Tales of Ba Sing Se"in season 2. It will give you context on the voice actor, and it will make the episode hit that much harder.

"Bender" is a British (and, evidently, Australian) derogatory slang term for a gay man. The show is American and in America there is no such connotation. I'm assuming it comes from the implication that gay men "bend over" and are therefore benders.
