Jeremy it wasn’t Korra’s fault though, if they had the money they probably would’ve done something more creative. Also with Jet dying which was "really unclear". Even the part about the scar being on the wrong side of Zuko's face cause they accidentally switched sides in The Firebending Masters. Most shows would just have their filler recap episode be the characters sitting around, showing clips from previous episodes as "memories." Does Avatar? NOPE! Instead, what we get is a meta commentary on the characters, the culture of the world and of the reaction to the show itself over its run. Like when they go over the valley as if it was nothing, because that episode had absolutely no point. Or when the Drill is attacking the walls and the audience is bored out of their minds? That's because the initial fan reaction to the episode was unfavourable, and people thought it was a pointless filler episode. Zuko and Katara are clearly uncomfortable with the Show shipping them together, which was how the writers reacted to that pairing irl. Zuko and the kid have a fight over which side of the face the scar is meant to be on, because there was discrepancy on that in S1. And of course: "So...did Jet die? You know, it was really unclear." It's just great that the show writers are capable of taking the piss out of themselves, in spite of the fact that they created a masterpiece with this show and never needed to do this. It's also clear with the characters themselves, because of how people would perceive them: Toph was meant to be a big, burly man in concept, but was changed in the show's production. And of course, real Toph loves it. Katara is always whining about hope, when she just has a kind, motherly nature to her. Aang is upset by the Show mocking his friendzoning by Katara. Zuko is always going on about his honour as if it's all that matters. And Sokka can't stop with his bad jokes. But my favourite part is the finale, when Fire Lord Ozai kills Aang and wins the War, an the whole Theater erupts in applause. Because it reminds the cast and audience that this is the Fire Nation, and they are not safe here and everyone would hand them over to the Imperial Authorities, in spite of how much they've gone out of their way to help them. They are loyal to Fire Lord and Country first and foremost, which is also the only thing keeping them in the War, Because they can't disobey him, a pacifist Fire Lord is the only way the War can end with everyone best interests in mind. If only we knew someone like that...
@lalalalisa415 жыл бұрын
Some people thought The Drill was pointless filler? Lol but the FN was literally making a move to infiltrate Ba Sing Se.
@Longshanks16905 жыл бұрын
@Lalisa T Yeah, but if you were only watching these one episode at a time, you can see how it would be perceived as such. It looked like an unnecessary distraction between getting inside Ba Sing Se because it wouldn't have mattered if it hadn't have happened, as they would have gotten into the city either way.
@lalalalisa415 жыл бұрын
@@Longshanks1690 Well, I guess I can sort of understand that. It's just that when Suki mentioned that the FN were working on something big, it was obvious that something like this was going to happen. I mean, just because the Gaang is trying to get into Ba Sing Se doesn't mean the war or the FN trying to take down the last Earth Kingdom stronghold would be put on hold. Call it unnecessary distraction or not, but them actually trying to infiltrate shows just how serious this all is.

Legend of Korra does that generic memory crap tho
@mariakal6055 жыл бұрын
@@mannymoogolf you should take into account why the creators were forced to do that, though. Nickelodeon screwed over The Legend of Korra and cut their budget, so Mike and Bryan were faced with 2 choices: either they could fire important crew members that had been with them from the beginning, or they could do a clip show with little animation and reuse old footage. Mike and Bryan were really upset with Nickelodeon about it. But they didn't want to lay off crew members, so they had to go with the other route instead. I think it should have been an episode about Kuvira's backstory. If you look online you'll find their statement about it somewhere.
@neonoires5 жыл бұрын
The Gaang reacted that way because of what Jerry said, they're confronting past trauma and mistakes. On top of that the audience applauded their demise. The play and the storytelling in this episode is silly but it's a sobering experience to see a possible future at the end of it. Aang and Zuko pretty much died in the play and their side suffered a defeat. I think seeing that sort of lit a fire under their ass as well as spooked them out.
@Kidapollo925 жыл бұрын
A poster for "Love amongst the Dragons" can be seen at the post office in "The Runaway". Zuko says his mother took him to see "Love amongst the Dragons" every year, despite the fact the players "butchered" it each time. This is the play that she was cast for as the Dragon Empress as a young girl for a production in Hira'a. The episode makes a reference to the cabbage merchant, a recurring joke in the show, as a "surprisingly knowledgeable merchant of cabbage". It also refers to Chong and his fellow nomads in "The Cave of Two Lovers" and the pirates from "The Waterbending Scroll".

'80s Hair: Actor!Zuko in the second act. It's why he and Iroh split up, since Zuko refuses to talk about it. The Abridged Series: Their show is a vastly condensed version of Aang's journey, gleaned largely from second-hand accounts (surprisingly accurate ones), though with a Twist Ending that's "Fire Nation friendly", you might say. Actually Pretty Funny: The scene where Actor!Sokka in a Kiyoshi outfit talks with Actor!Suki, asking if the dress makes his butt look too fat. Suki struggled to hold her laughter in while Sokka looked extremely embarrassed. Sokka presents Actor!Sokka with some alternative jokes during the intermission to use in-character for the final act of the show. While the actor is initially annoyed at having to deal with "another fan with ideas", he's quickly won over by Sokka's puns and uses several of his suggestions onstage.

@thomkuhle69415 жыл бұрын
this is a series recap and an interesting episode about propagands all in one. The fire nation has been winning for so long, and we've already got an abundant amount of hints in the show that the public are regularly lied to about their own history in order to make themselves seem more triumphant in a war, rather than a nation of people who committed mass genocide and continue to make such efforts around the rest of the world. It gets you thinking about how much history is up to interpretation. I feel like Aang took the play way too seriously but I think Zuko's feelings were understandable. Also makes you wonder, with that whole speech Toph gave about Iroh, whether or not Zuko's ever gonna get the answer from Iroh, is he proud, does he forgive him?

3:41 Exactly! How do they know the level of detail of the Avatar's adventures? Most of the time they were alone, and nobody from the outside could possibly have been able to tell anyone any real information about half of what they did. They only can go on a basis of where they went and what they did while they were. The only people with any real information is anyone who had any encounters with the Avatar while they were at the places they went to, including Fire Nation encounters, but somehow they seem to have an extreme amount of information on every little detail of what happened while they were out.
