Avatar: Woodbending Is The Next Sub-Element Form

The more time passes, the more theories about Avatar: The Last Airbenderand The Legend of Korra seems to pop-up. With the recent revelation that glassbending is possible in F.C. Yee’s novel The Shadow of Kyoshi, which tells the tale of Kyoshi, everything we dreamed of now seems possible.
Is there other types of bending out there, and more importantly is there more pure elemental bending that have not yet been revealed? Because of the The Foggy Swamp tribes, and Korra's ability to bend vines, theories about woodbending started to show up through the internet. Is woodbending possible? I think so, yes. But the question is who can woodbend? Waterbenders have been shown as very versatile benders when it comes to finding water. As the evil bloodbenders Hama attests, plantbending is possible through the bending of water inside these plants. She also briefly showed how she was able to retrieve water from trees during her Full Moon fight against Katara who saw a threat in her. Another theory would be that earthbenders could woodbend, but that seems quite unlikely since there is no earth in trees.
In this video, I will explore the possible world of woodbenders, explain their fighting techniques, and how they can create weapons and shields through woodbending. I imagine woodbenders as a whole group of people, with their very own culture. Then, I will move to the origins of woodbending and how, just like metalbending, its inspiration in the show can be found in the Chinese philosophy of Wuxing, also known as Five Elementsor Five Movements, which includes earth, fire, water, wood, and metal. The video will end with a discussion on woodbending skills while being in the Avatar State.

No an earthbender cant bend bloodbend, but he might bonebend and 100% can woodbend. 1. Blood has another type of iron and not the iron in the nature. I have asked my biology and chymist teachers too. 2. It is 100% confirmed that an earthbender can bonebend, at least indirectly. I am not talking about bones in our body, but fosils. They are bones that have been buried underground million of years before, and have been linked with the earth as one. This makes them bendabel as an earthbender as shown in the series, can bend metal witch has earth inside and coal witch has earth inside too. So u bend the earth with witch the bones are linked, not directly them. About the bones in our body, I don't think they would be bendable just because they have not earth inside, but as we have seen, an earthbender after mastering metalbending can bend it even without earth inside, so why it can not be a thing with bones too. 3. Woodbending is 100% a thing that can be ebndable by earthbenders too. But u only bend the mud and stone inside the woods too. Stonified wood exists, so it is a benable thing by earthbenders. I think the "practise bending it without earth inside" applys here too. Mabey earthbenders after time could bend wood without stone too. We have even seen Toph see from the wood in the swamp like it was earth so...

I mean it makes for a good fan fiction but it's not that good when its put up against what we have seen in the avatar universe, for example the healing, you may picture this as making wounds heal but this doesn't make sense, all bending forms follow fundamental mechanics of the bending type, no bending type makes room for forcing wounds to heal them selves in this fashion, as water bending always bends H2O it can not manipulate the cells to do other actions, I do not think water healing does this I firmly believe that it invokes a spiritual healing in which the spirit heals the body, but the healing of insanity is very possible based on this belief and what we've seen. Next up is that you wrote this society of elite water benders specializing in bending plants as healers this makes no sense what so ever, all people groups will have protectors, healers, the jobless and either hunters or farmers and possibly both if this nation is agriculturally based then we can say that protectors are almost nonexistent, and that we will have the majority of people as farmers of sorts dealing in food production. Following the food production will be the protectors which would be the police, the military, and guardsman. after the protectors is the healers, made up of doctors, medics and probably, academics researching how the body works and likely getting it wrong. And we end the list with the jobless, including but not limited to royalty, the actually jobless, and teachers. Jobless referring to not possessing a job that directly affects the survival of the people group or doesn't do much work, like teachers and royalty. Welcome to my Ted talk.

Expanding on your idea, woodbending would be good against fire too in a spesific way. Just like here, swamp trees are very dense by nature, even not floatable on water. These woods are also very fire resistent if no other burables are present. A woodbender would be able to make fire resistent wood out of any other kinds of woods. Taking out the water from it and make the dry wood more dense. In the same way they could make it lighter to make it spantanious combustable so that would be an addon to it. A dense packed wood by a woodbender could be the most powerfull bending other then maybe metal bending and lava bending. A woodbender could even be very creative by it and basically make a wooden airship. By making a big gas chamber in the center of the wood containing all the wood gas of the specific object. If done enough it could become lighter than the air around making it floatable. An avatar could even bend the woodgas so that it's quite self efficient. But maybe woodgas is also bendable by woodbenders

Feel like wood bending would extend from the swampy water tribe. While they water benders they are more in tune with nature. Wood definitely seems like a combination of water and earth(though that's because I can't help but think of naruto). Wood bending could probably be used to create housing. When surrounded by wood the bender could move the moisture within it. Possibly even altering its form. Don't think this kind of bending could heal trees(50/50 on that). Channeling the root source could accelerate a trees growth.

I don’t see anyone commenting on the existing bending, Toph extending her seismic sense to the root system of the Banyon-grove Tree. She teaches Korra to connect to the tree too, this could develop militant communications, like Yamanaka Clan. So I have to agree that it’s extension of earth bending. Water benders would have to tap into the forms of blood bending for the root system to work imo.

I have a theory. I think fire-benders could be a candidate for wood-bending. See, the first water-bender was the moon and people learned to water-bend by seeing how the moon moved the tides. one more style of bending can be CHAKRA BENDING as we saw in AVATAR THE LAST AIRBENDER an avatar needs to open his chakras to gain control over the avatar state. this determines the use of chakras in any bending style. we also saw that Zaheer kind of opened one of his chakra by losing P'li to suyin Beifong and was able to fly as a result of opening of a chakra. lets imagine every bender has at least one of his chakra open which allows him to do bending with elements so what if someone does Chakra bending and closes or kind of slow downs the flow of his/her oponents Chakra he might take away or slow down their bending. To me this theory makes sense. i dont know what you think.

I also wanted to share my opinion to the Elemental Turtles. I think that each Turtle gives a user the power to bend with everything (that is in a specific element) for example: Earth benders could bend with everything connected to Earth somehow (including liquid metals); Fire benders may bend with Electricity, Smoke, Explosion and Plasma or even ENERGY ITSELF; Water benders could possibly bend with every kind of liquid materials - Acid, Poison, Blood, Clouds (except liquids that are not connected with liquid metals of course); As for the Air benders (now that their nation exists thanks to Kora) some of them may actually invent something new - expect for Spirit Projection and Flight, the newest benders may invent Gravity bending or Vacuum bending; As i said, certain benders of each element may posses the power to bend with everything from their specific element. All it takes is time for this to actually be seen in the future!

Telepathy and empathy with animals would also be a really unique and useful skill. And since wood bending would revolve around a lot of plant usage what about if wood/ plant benders wanted to be outright deadly and could manipulate spores from mushrooms to attack with toxins or hallucinogens? Or attack with thorns or pine needles?

Firebenders would not have that much of an advantage over woodbenders. Only dry wood burns. That's why not all pieces of wood can be used as firewood and why firewood is so specially protected. As woodbenders are waterbenders, they would be able to control the moisture of the wood they bend, giving them an added (but not necessarily insurmountable) defense against firebenders.

Water benders could technically blind their enemies because our eyes are always wet and moist. So a water bender with full potential could be legendary. But seeing as toph is blind that means with this technique, earth benders could have no effect.

Wood is VERY commonly used in making houses. It's easier to shape, build with, and replace. But I think the best application would be on a more micro scale than macro. Specifically through herbalism. Controlling the plants to bear fruit or recover fast to get ingredients for medicine. From what I saw, traditional water healing can only really heal physical wounds like gashes and slashes. Wood Benders could gather the materials for Medicine much easier, and would become some of the city's primary medical specialists.

This is shown with fire and earth benders and how they can get lava bending so I think people who are children of two different benders should get different sub elements such as like fire and sand benders would have a bender who can glass bend. If a Water and air bender would have a air bending child their sub element would be controlling like the weather they can create storms and control clouds. If a Earth and water bender had a child that is an water bender and they would have the sub element of basically what the video says so it would be like nature and trees.

I can agree on a fire and earth bender having a child which s more likel to have lavabending as subbending but it is not confirmed a bender need those parents. Ghazan we dont know his parents and from bolin we dont know if both were benders at all. For glasbender i disagree. Sandbenders are specialized eathbenders, not a different element on its own. Sand is a part of earth. Every eathbender can sandbend. Clouds are 100% water so a waterbender should be able to bend them. They can already create steam and fog which are the same as clouds. But for wood there is absolutely no connection to any element except water. Which we see with swamp bender who can control vines by bendng the water nside the vines. Just the same as bloodbenders do with humans.

Both are no benders tho. But can pass on the bending gene so to speak. Same as for katara & toph whos parents werent benders also.

Ok but what about Sound Bending. Technically sound is just the vibration of air molecules. So if you could manipulate the air molecules carefully, an air bender could create whatever sound they want. This could be used for long distance travel, Messing with an enemies head, and tricking enemies into thinking your somewhere else. I think sound bending would be pretty cool.
