This was my first series of comics that I read as a kid. It started my love for Marvel, the Avengers and Defenders. It was very exciting to read and learn all the characters. Thanks for covering it.

I read as a kid too and thought battles were super epic. Anxiously waiting for each issue, I recall re-reading each one. I don't know where my original copies are, but a couple decades later, I found copies in back issue boxes from my LCS and still have the complete run today. Thanks for taking me down comic memory lane. 😊 😅

Subby makes no mention of his and Cap's partnership in the Invaders for a very simple reason. Avengers #116 was cover dated Oct. of '73. Giant Size Invaders #1 (the first appearance and origin of the group) is a retroactive continuity title, not published until June of '75. So....when Subby says this, they hadn't thought up the Invaders yet.

Story was Truly Epic fir the time. Remember my Fam bringing it in, Couldn't believe it. Back then I felt the Avengers should have done beter in the matchups( Hawkeye should have lost after 1 repulsor blast). Story created a Love affair for The Earths Mightiest that I STILL Have to this day. Thanks for covering this gem.

Yeah, I was surprised the Avengers didn't win a single fight. The Defenders made them look like chumps. I guess the Avengers just didn't have their hearts in the mission like the Defenders did.

This was a great summer! Nice job on the recap, I've subscribed, but could do without the usual comparing stuff done in the past to today. BTW, Bob Brown was pretty old by the time he got to Marvel, worked at DC from the 50's.
@robertmallory18775 ай бұрын
The retro continuity of the Invaders was not yet created at this point and it wasn't the real Steve Rogers who was in the All Winners Squad that followed the Avengers. When Kang sent the Avengers to WW2 and the Grandmaster brought the real Captain America together was at that point the first time we knew the three were in the same place at the same time. Eventually Invaders will show this was not their first meeting by a long shot. Even in the Golden Age though Cap encountered the Torch but not Submariner to my knowledge. The anniversary books Marvel did established Cap intervening when the Submariner ambushed Torch because he's such a vengeful cuss!
@robertmallory18775 ай бұрын
You forgot that The Submariner and Hulk had teamed up to destroy the Avengers back in issue #3. No wonder the Avengers believed the Defenders were the bad guys!

Since their original run no revival of the Defenders has ever worked sadly. I wonder what it is? I loved that series so much, right up until it beame a more standard team with the OG X Men.

The Fraction run was decent. Son was the recent Ewing one . The classic team is the best , though.
@darrelldent9083Ай бұрын
The only thing I can think of is the writing and the understanding of the characters. You had Thomas, Englehart, Wein then Gerber, hard to keep the momentum going when following some of the best.

Hawkeye didn't betray the avengers. Let's go down the well of bones for his story. He left feeling not respected. He stoped Zaxxx with hulk and ran into val and subby, on their way to Dr strange's house. He tages along and gets involved.

Thanks for doing all of these. I always wanted to read some of these classic stories . I often get them in trades. Englehart and Thomas wrote good stories, but their dialogue and exposition is just too dated and clunky . Still, this was a good fight and team up.

It just felt unnecessary to go too deep into describing the FF issue. It might have been a good idea because it would have allowed me to explain Prester John, helping clarify the ending of the story, but it just felt like unnecessary clutter taking away from talking about the main story.

My Defenders also has Hellcat and Nighthawk, and soon will have Damian Hellstrom. All together I have 76 Avengers, but that's counting 5 Hank Pym, 2 Scott Lang, 2 Carol Danvers, 7 Customs, and 3 Fudges. Customs are Swordsman, Jack of Hearts, Crystal, Stingray, D-Man, Silverclaw, and Firebird. Fudges (using 1 Figure as another) are Rick Jones, Echo, and Original Human Torch Jim Hammond. Used to use a lot more Customs, but Hellcat, Justice, Firestar, Quasar, Ronin, Mantis, Moondragon, Thunderstrike, Jocasta, and others have been released.
@andrewward58915 ай бұрын
Not really a surprise that the defenders won the fights. The Defenders lineup was much more powerful then most of the Avengers. Namor is way stronger then Cap, same with Valkyrie being much stronger then Swordsman (an almost as good with a sword), the Surfer as a former Herald of Galactus is more powerful then Vision, and Black Panther and Mantis have no chance vs the Socerer supreme. The only contest where the Avengers have the advantage is Iron man vs Hawkeye and Hawkeye only “wins” by grabbing the Eye while Iron man rescues civilians.

your vid was fine till you mentioned the Crusades, the Crusades didn't happen out of nowhere there was 300 years of unchecked expansionist imperialism from the Muslim rulers of the time and the Crusades were a back lash to it.
@CaptainAway4 ай бұрын
I'd be honestly curious as to why you would characterize the crusades in that way. Islamic territorial expansion had largely stopped for a long time before the crusades began. Most crusades had the stated goal of "liberating" the holy land Jerusalem, but it had been under Muslim control for hundreds of years by that point, was experiencing a period of peace leading up to the crusades, and very few crusades even ended up in Jerusalem. Many times they weren't even fighting Muslims, like when they sacked Constantinople, a city run by Greek Orthodox Christians, even though there had been no call to do so and other Christians weren't the enemies.
