I finally watched both of these, forgetting that you did reviews on them! Back to say you were SO right. They were great despite the short length and lower budget. The acting was actually not bad and story was entertaining to watch. I still think these are rare, as I haven’t run into other short dramas that were too good, but that also applies to longer dramas, now that I think about it haha

Just finished seeing The Killer is Also Romantic. I agreed with what you said that it has a nice visual production technique. If with the low budget they could give that nice Cdrama, can we imagine how great Cdrama they will produce if they have more? Because of you, now I like to pay attention more about Cdrama's production/cinematography. Esp if it's ancient/costume/historical/classic Cdrama. It can be so beautiful or totally screwed up...🤭😅 For me, the Cdramas's storylines are often almost same (similar). And also sometimes the storylines becomes mess up & make me tired. Too long or too complicated or too boring. Wuxia/Xianxia Cdramas have more & greater prospect in the future if the directing, the cinematography/production, the storylines & the acting (not only sell beautiful/handsome actress/actor) keep improving.

I LOVED Her Royal Highness, it feels like something out of a dream, ethereal and beautiful, I felt like I was watching a story idea from my brain 😆. I only wish it was double as long to expand on the storyline more. The Killer is Also Romantic didn't have the same effect on me, it felt like a well done idol drama if that makes sense? The story's humor, conflicts, misunderstandings etc all follow the routes of the usual comedy idol drama, and the acting style as well. It's well done though, just doesn't stand out against similar dramas with bigger budgets. Either way, great job from both teams to create such quality work!

I have finished both recently and I've got to say both their production standards and story plots definitely has seen big improvements compared productions of similar scale! Like when I saw such web dramas in the past, I would've passed it without batting an eye but this two really caught my attention with how male leads can be a gentlemen and female leads can be independent and act normally too unlike those arrogant and obnoxious leads in proper "idol" dramas these days!!! I just want more of such good productions to take up more of the market instead me just seeing idiotic fans creating so much noise marketing for their idol's drama... I really rolled my eyes at this kind of stupid behavior like countless times!

From what you’re talking about, especially Her Royal Highness, I’m having flashbacks to a genre of small, TV drama-humour series from France, and particularly Kaamelott (a rewrite of the legend of arthur) : similarly, it’s like 3-5 minutes ish for the first seasons, with a really tight budget at first, and it started airing during the mid 2000’s. It got really, really popular, like cult-classic level in france, had a huge impact, and the budget got higher and episodes longer as the series went on, getting to like 45-ish minutes for 9 episodes for the last season. I don’t know enough about the Chinese entertainment world/market to know if something like that is even viable/could happen/should happen ?, bit i thought it was interesting to point out

I loved TKIAR! Shocked at the romantic nature of the drama. They did the love scenes so well. The secondary plot with also good. The hostage prince and the blind weapon making sister was well down. 🤟😎

The thing with short dramas is I hear abt them from reviews that kinda talk abt the plot and then I go and watch them and it's basically exactly what was talked abt in the reviews. Cuz like u said, they have a structure but not rly much flesh on the bones

I finished Her Royal Highness cuz the official channel uploaded it on KZbin with no subs in one full movie type so it didn’t feel as disrupted. The plot is basic enough for you to understand with no subs but I gotta say, camera work and editing are very fluid and flows very nicely despite low budget in costumes and sets. Acting is kinda questionable but they’re pretty so you’ll learn to look past that loll. My final conclusion is, it feels like a cosplay video in full drama form

whenever I go to watch a cdrama I first look at how many episodes are there. Then I usually end up watching the main lead story line only if there are too many episodes. If I really liked that then I would watch again and watch more of it. So having shorter series to watch for me is very nice and Killer series made me laugh out loud a couple times.

I binge watched the two at your recommendation. The Killer is Also Romantic is quite delightful, almost movie like. Her Royal Highness is at most a collection of short clips that is no where near to be a full movie/story like. While both leads are extremely attractive, I feel the clips might be better embedded in a audio book/storytelling. Having said that, I am not sure these new short format is the way to go. It's almost like a reverse of 10 Miles of Peach Blossom (三生三世十里桃花) or Ashes of Love (香蜜沉沉烬如霜). Both original novels are short in words and in details and play ups. But the directors and screen adapters instill so much of their ideas to make the stories vibrant and appealing. The entire drama plots flow smoothly. I actually re-watched both despite the >60 episodes and a bit dragging endings. Despite being short, I have no interest or urge to rewatch the current two short dramas.

I started watching "The Killer is Also Romantic." I truly enjoyed the first five episodes. However, I could not stand having to start another episode every 12 minutes. So, I gave up!!! I would love it if someone on KZbin would take all 18 episodes and combine them into one movie without advertisements between the start and the ending of the new configuration. Again, I have to reiterate that I really liked the beginning of this drama and would have loved to have seen the entire series!

The Killer Is Also Romantic got me laughing so hard haha. Try it, you won't be disappointed. Everything makes sense, no dragging, and you might even be surprised at how it exceeds your expectation. Kiss scenes are amazing, which is a plus lol. Oh, and two equally badass leads.
