Prior to this song, nobody on the face of the earth ever thought, 'hmmm, sleigh bells are funky', and then this song dropped. That bass line, holy shit, those two guitar tracks panned left and right, man. There's so much room to breath in this track. It's fonky like an open hamper, fonky like a dirty pamper. One of their best tracks imho.

Hamish Stuart (Scottish) is lead singer, guitarist wore his kilt in concert. House of Blues Live video is great....there's also a BBQ video of crowd dancing their ass off....& everybody's singing. Sleigh bells nice touch.

I am so glad you liked this one! I’ve been showing my 8th grade daughter a lot of old school music like this. I was super happy to help with the Haiti thing but I also hoped to put a smile on your face. My daughter said ‘hey dad, I think he liked it!’ If you did like it, there is a live version of them playing ‘cut the cake’ on soul train. Just saying. It’s their album cover on this one, cut me a lil bit of that cake, just a slice. You know Steve Harvey from family feud ? He actually said this is one of his favorite bands and it blew his mind when he saw the soul train set that these were white guys. They’re from funking Scotland!!

Oh, man, this takes me back! This was my favorite AWB song back in the day, whether dancing in the living room or at the school dance. Wanted to see more of the live, outdoor video that popped up afterward--real people dancing to real music in the open air!

I am blessed to have seen them perform this live in Sacramento in late 1975 or early 76. This was the first time I had experienced a mixed-race concert at about 50-50. It was legendary! AWB bridged the gap, and the whole house was a funkin!!! Check out Soul Train performances of this band. A bunch of soul lovin white brothers from freakin SCOTLAND. Go figure!!! I am blessed to have seen them live, and I am a hunky who has all their albums.

They got their name when a friend heard them at one of their first gigs in Scotland. He said they have “too much funk for the average white man”. They liked the sound of it and they named themselves the Average White Band. Check out their studio version songs of Work to Do(Isley Brothers remake), Schoolboy Crush(that bass is so fat!), A Love of Your Own, and their live Person to Person album has two amazing live songs, Cut the Cake and Cloudy(Hamish, pronounced hey-mish, hits those high notes!) Those songs are better than their studio versions, way better!

Wrong, they were sitting some where, it was hot, some one made a statement "it's to hot for the Average White Man" research and don't make misstatements.
@WilliamTheMovieFan2 жыл бұрын
@@rodneytaylor609 I did research it. The band member "Molly" Duncan said that's how it happened. The temperature in Dundee Scotland, where they are from, doesn't get that hot in the summer time.

By the same funky SCOTTISH masters,try Queen of my Soul. It’s a soul classic. The amount of black friends in south London back in the day who were gobsmacked when they found out these soulboys were hairy arsed jocks. So much material,so much funk n soul.

@@karlkrasnowsky3895 people knowing the names of the band members? What songs went big off what album? Seriously, I couldn't tell you a single Name in the band. I remember they were famous for going through lots of drummers.
@karlkrasnowsky38952 жыл бұрын
@@davemcbroom695 well between 73-79 they had multiple silver, gold and platinum certified albums. So they weren't an insignificant band and played large concert venues for years. But if you mean real big like EWF and J5, no, not real big, but they also weren't from the US either and as you noted, their influence was and still is huge.
@rodneytaylor6092 жыл бұрын
14 hits on the Billboard top 100, a number one hit on the international charts, that's big. They should have been bigger but that genera of music was not as popular as Rock in roll music, but in their catagory they were monsters.
@rodneytaylor6092 жыл бұрын
@@davemcbroom695 they didn't go through lots of drummers only one replacement of the original band. Apparently you're were not into soul music in the 79es if you didn't know the names. Hamish Stuart or Steve Ferrone or Alan Gorrie and the Dundee horns,
