This was a really full and fun day of flying, and I’m glad we got to stop in Toronto and hang out with Steve. He’s edited around 20 Aviation101 videos from 2018 to 2020, and he’s done a FANTASTIC job! The editing load has been back on me since then (he got busy, I got busy, and we fell off the collaborative groove). I have no doubt we’ll work on film projects together again, though! Now onto Part 7. 🤓

Josh and Chelsea. Really, really enjoyed this video, after watching part 5. I am Canadian :-) and I reside in Kingston (CYGK) about 120 miles east of Toronto. Started flying after retiring, just before Covid, and the latter put me about 2 years behind schedule. I soloed about 2 months ago and have a few hours solo since. Weather has been a frustrating challenge this spring, slowing me down, but that’s part of the business. Looking forward to progressing. Interesting observation. Before you commented on the scenery during base and final into Billy Bishop with Steve, I was thinking the very same. Been to Toronto many times, but never from that perspective. Wow! Sure did enjoy watching your professionalism and competency, while flying in the several busy airspaces. Your experience shows. Take good care both of you, and stay safe! Josh, technically you should have filed a flight plan. In Canada even VFR flights of more than 25 nm require either a flight plan or flight itinerary with a responsible person.
@gregflude2284
@gregflude2284 Жыл бұрын
Just to expand on this a little, US aircraft flying in Canada must comply with CDN regs unless they conflict with US law. So, over 25 NM in Canada you must file a flt plan and that does not violate US law. Equally, a Canadian aircraft in the US must comply with CDN regs as long as they do not conflict with US law. A Canadian aircraft must file a flt plan to go more than 25nm in the US even though US law doesn't require it. I flew the Sault - Toronto route last October in clear blue skies and it US breathtaking. Love the channel.

I've never filled a VFR flight plan in my 15 years as a pilot. I wouldnt even know how. I also noticed the airspeed callouts on the roll. I never look at the airspeed on a normal takeoff or landing. I just get the nose in position and it will fly when it gets ready or look out the window and land the plane. I guess it's different strokes for different pilots.

I do it for three reasons: - "Airspeed alive and building" - make sure I've not forgotten to take the pitot cover off! - "Above abort speed" - as part of my pre-takeoff brief I will have a point in mind where if I don't achieve a certain speed by then, I'll abort. - Rotation speed The abort speed point I think I actually got from one of Josh's videos a while back.
