I am asking about streaming in respect of the Pilot Edge air traffic control utility? Is streaming involved with regard to Pilot Edge use? Does Pilot Edge have a fully functional ACARS? Would you see visually other traffic on your computer monitor/ screen and on your airplane's TACAS vsi instrument when on or using Pilot Edge? I ask if streaming is involved as there must be some kind of screen capture software working on all participants computers to record each airplane's position on the built-in database map of the flight simulator program that it may be displayed to other aircraft traffic within the Pilot Edge air traffic control system. How is other traffic determined and hence displayed to participant traffic on Pilot Edge if streaming is not involved?

The first difference I noticed was in the clearance. in America we say "Kennedy Clearance, AAL2023 is ready for clearance" then the controller will reply "AAL2023, Kennedy Clearance cleared to the Boston airport as filed climb and maintain 10,000 expect FL320 10 mins after departure push and start at your discretion. Expect runway 13R, squawk 1320 contract ground 121.9 cya" the piolt will reply "AAL2023 cleared to Boston as filed Climb and maintain 10,000 expect Fl320 10 mins after departure ground on 121.9 have a good day"

Hey thanks for posting this, it was pretty helpful. I had my first VFR flight on VATSIM last night, made a couple of mistakes, mostly on ground procedure, oops, and thought the controller said left downwind when he said crosswind, but the controller was patient and it wasn't a busy airport, but overall it was pretty enjoyable. The hardest part was pressing the push-to-talk button for the first time heh.
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
+NextGenPants You're welcome! :) Well, it's a good thing that you started at an airport that wasn't busy and luckily there was a polite air traffic controller online! :) And yes, that's the moment we all "fear", but once you've made the step it will be very easy! :)

sorry for the stupid question but what is the difference between saying Roger and Wilco?
@AviationPro7 жыл бұрын
That's not a stupid question, because people mix them up quite often! :) Roger just means that you understood the transmission. Wilco stands for "Will comply", meaning you understand the transmission and you will execute the ATC instruction. Wilco is mainly used for small instructions that don't really require a full readback like "report ready for startup".

Hello. I´m about to make my first flight online :) don´t seem very complicated actually, but i have some questions: 1- can i accelete the time in case of larger flights? if i do so, what will happen in practice? 2- who can i know wich charts atc are using to control the operations in the aiport( for taxi, SIDs, STARs, etc) Excelent video helped me a lot ;)
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
+Luís Jorge Hi! No you can't, that's not allowed if you are flying online on VATSIM. What you could do though is sign off, accelerate time, and then at some point go back to 1x speed and sign onto the network again, however that is still a bit tedious in my opinion. ATC use the same charts and procedures as pilots do. If you mean that you need to know which runway is active: just listen to the ATIS or determine that yourself by looking at the wind direction at the airport :)
@luisjorge49468 жыл бұрын
Thank you so much. One more question i forgot to ask. If a log in with an addon aircraft, lets say, airbus aerosoft extended, if the other people don't have that software in their computar how they or what aircraft they will see?
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
They will see an AI model if they have done some proper model matching. You don't need to have the same addon installed for that, just a basic model from addons like Ultimate Traffic will work as well.

A point to add, you touched on briefly. If there is an incoming aircraft for example, you could be give a conditional taxi/clearance. This is where the controller would say: "LOT1364, behind the arriving Lufthansa A330, runway 25C, line up and wait behind." Fairly self explanatory but getting the RT perfect can be a challenge. Good vid by the way
@AviationPro9 жыл бұрын
Max Beckett Yes that's true. There is a lot of R/T that is not mentioned in this video and that would probably go beyond the scale of the P1 course. This just gives a basic idea of some of the communications involved from departure to arrival. All the other R/T can be learned through getting experience and doing additional reading. Thanks for watching, subscribing and commenting! :)
@MaxBeckett9 жыл бұрын
+AviationPro agreed, it was only briefly mentioned in my P1 sessions (I did it though VATSIM UK) but it's useful to know for controller ratings and future ratings too. Keep up the good work
@dtown13559 жыл бұрын

AviationPro I have a question: When you file a flight plan on VATSIM, do you need to do prior research on the airport's active runway to make sure there are no discrepancies between what the air traffic controller is telling you and what you have entered in your FMC? Or do you need to change your flight plane according to what the controller is telling you?
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
Your flight plan will contain a route with a start point and an end point which lead to SIDs and STARs respectively, this route should NOT include the SIDs and STARs yet. You do not have to include a SID and STAR in your flight plan yet, because you never know which one you will get.
@raghavvemuganti7828 жыл бұрын
AviationPro Thanks! That makes a lot more sense!

Noticed one thing missing, when tower gives you clearance to depart with wind direction and speed, they will also verify altimeter setting as in LOT123 wind 210 at 10 gusting to 15 altimeter 349 cleared for takeoff.
@KriVaDesign7 жыл бұрын
Not sure whether this is the case everywhere, but where I work, the Pressure setting is given with the taxi clearance. The AIR/TWR controller only specifies it if it changed in the time between being given the taxi clearance, and the actual take-off clearance.

maybe a year ago or so, I got some info from the other flightsim network (IVAO) that now you only state your position, the ATIS info and then you request pushback. The ATC would then hand over your clearance and gives you permission for startup and pushback. I don't know if that's some kind of shortcut when not all ATC positions at the airfield are online or if it's the real procedure (can't really imagine the delivery giving you permission for startup)
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
+aviationFan5418 That really depends on the airport. At some small ones here in the Netherlands for example, you get your flight plan clearance while you're taxiing. That's why it's always wise to read the airport procedures first, but the way you see it happening in this video is most common, at least for the bigger airports (because they have to work with slot times etc.)

Hey AviationPro, which airport should I use for VATSIM? Like, should we download an AFCAD airport or the default airport or the payware ones? Which airport will the atc tell the taxiways? Im really confused about it.
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
It's best if you use an addon airport, which are usually more up-to-date than the default scenery. Payware is of course nice for the looks, but usually there are also freeware alternatives or AFCAD updates. The ATC will work with the present airport layout, so according to the latest charts. If you can't find an up-to-date scenery just try to locate yourself on the chart and determine what the taxiway letters and gate numbers around you are as if you were flying at the airport in the present layout.

You monitor UNICOM (122,800) while flying through uncontrolled airspace. At such airports you would just follow real world procedures and fly yourself. If a radar controller is online he could provide VFR information etc.

Wilco = will comply. 8G is the identifier for the Standard Instrument Departure (SID), it's just a name for the SID. When this SID changes, they update the identifier, so then it becomes SULUS 9G for example.

I have never flown with vatsim. I usually fly light aircraft. Does vatsim work with the light aircraft like the Cessna 172?
@AviationPro6 жыл бұрын
You can fly any aircraft, as long as it is not a spaceshuttle or a hot air balloon and stuff like that.

Can somebody help me what QNH means? Sometimes when i do clearance for take off they would say something about QNH *. Do i need to change the altitude calibration knob? Please help thanks
@NiklasxBantz5 жыл бұрын
QNH means "Query: Nautical Height" and indeed you need to change the altitude calibration this is done to ensure your altitude readout is correct for the area. After departure and you have climbed out of the area you will change it back. Hope it helps :)

What is this “information you have” like information alpha? Where do I get this information and how do I know what information it is?
@deles21814 жыл бұрын
You have to put on your radio the ATIS frequency of the airport, which you will find in the charts. Then, you will listen to a voice message that is going to give you all the information you need of the airport, including the time when the meteorological report was generated (in UTC). This includes runways in use for both departures and arrivals, approach procedures and any other relevant information about non usual operations at the airport, like Low Visibility Procedures or a closed taxiway. It also gives you the wind, horizontal visibility, ceiling, QNH, temperature and dew point. When you listen to this record, the first thing you will hear is "This is (name of the airport) ATIS information (letter)". That letter is the way that the controller has to know if the pilot has an updated information about the airport or not. The letter changes every time a meteorological report is generated (between 30-60 minutes) or something important happens at the airport (change of the runway in use). At the end of the record, you will hear "Advise you have ATIS information (letter)" and that's the letter you have to say to the controller in the first contact, so they can know if you have the current information. I hope you were able to understand me, since my English is not really good

But how can I get the name of information( alike Information Alpha)?
@AviationPro8 жыл бұрын
You have to listen to the latest ATIS information if it is online at that particular airport on VATSIM. Or get the controller info via your pilot client of the air traffic controller if no ATIS is online.
