@rick poghll Indeed. If it’s one sin that I am king of committing, it is PRIDE! Uhg. 😩 I’ve learned so many times that when I have wronged someone, then having humility and apologizing to them and asking for forgiveness brings peace again - like a weight off the heart. It’s really difficult to do when we are proud.

@@st.michaelthearchangel7774 Thanks for the reply . I find myself frustrated by the general public like general rudeness in stores or traffic related issues . How can one apologize for generally getting frustrated at injustice in those instances? I’d appreciate ( more ) feedback Thanks

@@mdm5287 I agree, we need to get it out and use it proactively when needed (eg injustice, abuse or harm, especially towards innocence, and in defense of the little ones, or blasphemy or sacrilege, etc.) People need to be taught so they can correct themselves. Bad things happen when good people do nothing. That’s indifference that is worse than just anger.

I used to think that I had to defend myself no matter what --- and I would get very angry in the process at times. Then I read from one of the saints (? St. John Chrsy. -- maybe?) that we need to humble ourselves like Jesus. When Jesus was being persecuted, He did not defend Himself, He did not argue. Now, when I want to argue with someone in anger, I try to think of Jesus and that He suffered so humbly when persecuted. To get the residual anger to go away, I pray the Jesus prayer, "Lord, have mercy on me a sinner....". Hope that helps 🙏😊

Being angry from being treated unjustly does not stem from pride.

I wonder if Father has another more holistic approach on this.. since there are times when sins were committed against a soul in childhood that cause disordered or distorted perceptions during a child's spiritual and emotional development.. so it may not be pride but legitimate woundedness that mars the psyche through no fault of their own and is a cross to bear no matter how hard they struggle to over come it. Sort of like people who have had blunt force trauma to the head, its not like they want to be angry but they have no filter because of the trauma. It's good to make distinctions.. the majority may fall under the pride category others may fall under the cross.
@mojophe1617
@mojophe1617 3 жыл бұрын
Agreed Rebecca, I understand what you are saying. When we have suffered trauma there's a different force at play in how we respond to perceived attacks. We are in self- protection mode. I guess Father is talking generally. Maybe anger has its root in trauma moreso than pride but I can see where pride can cause it too.
@BindingTheYoke
@BindingTheYoke 3 жыл бұрын
@@mojophe1617 yes true most will be pride without the other factors.. but I just think its wise not to judge rashly in all circumstances of expressed anger... the thing I always see is if its habituated and how the person responds to an outburst.. if after they get angry they don't care and they are irate often its probably pride, if it's not often but triggered by others being inconsiderate and they are repentant after an outburst chances are it's more of a cross they struggle against. I just do not agree with Father that this vice is so cut and dry as he puts it, since he himself said it's an intellectual vice, but that's not entirely the case since we know what medical science has revealed about the effects of trauma on the psyche. 🤷🏼‍♀️ ..and we are in a society who's media goes out of it's way to traumatize people as well. Its an unbelievably complex issue with various elements therein spiritually speaking. Humility to Christ is the solution and fostering virtue is always the remedy to all vice... but distinctions matter as scripture says "Fathers do not exasperate your children last they lose heart." .. it would be sad for a wounded soul to hear something and feel shame (as the devil will suggest it) for something they struggle with only for them to fall away dejected by the lack of help from others in their distress. I dunno 🤔 but that's just my 2c for what its worth.

What’s your point? Are you insinuating because there are morally corrupt men in an institution it means that all men are in that institution are corrupt? Are you insinuating that there’s not an overwhelming majority of Catholics who are repulsed and outraged over the actions of corrupt men? By the structure of your question I would surmise you probably care more about making an ignorant, self exculpatory and snide point than about the injustice done to innocent souls. A lot of folk today are intoxicated with moral indignation because it affords them the illusion of thinking they are morally superior, can’t be wrong and generous spirited, wanting all the credit and glory of virtues with none of the effort. I tend to find many of the internet folk I have encountered who bring up sexually corrupt priests conveniently turn a blind eye to the fact that the pornography they look at comes at the expense of someone else’s misery, who are often sex-trafficked individuals. I tend to think Anger properly used should be reserved for militant resistance from the world reducing all men to commodities to be used. Sexual corruption is not a priest problem it’s a sexual- revolutionized heart of man problem.

Did I hear there is no anger in animals? Clearly, the saint never witnessed the never ending contempt that lions and hyena's have for each other. Nor have they witnessed a flock of crows deficate all over your home if you dare to take target practice on one and kill him with your pellet gun.
@XramBrain

Animals don't act out of anger, but out of instinct and survival, such ad self-defense. As the good priest premised, anger has the element of reason, which animals don't have.
@roberthalf1094
@roberthalf1094 2 жыл бұрын
@@XramBrain Anger is equally stimulated by irrational outbursts in both humans and animals. Consider trench warfare circa WWI. Motives for each charge ranged from the terror of being held in contempt by your brother soldiers as a coward, or shot for disobedience by a commanding officer, or displacing terror by devising a strategy to control the odds, to resignation that "This is it!" to curiosity at the prospect, to blatant en nui to joy at the prospect of a better life, somehow ... Yes, rational thought is a wonderous thing, save for the obvious fact that broad spectrums of conclusions and motives supports blind outcomes as chaotic as animals like numeruos lions in a pack driving a herd of water buffaloes into an ambush (clear intellectual exercise) and devouring a select victim. The clear animosity between lions and hyenas goes WAAAAAY beyond instinct. Lions will hunt down the queen of each pack and invade the den to kill the young. This differs how from 60+ million babies torn from their mothers' wombs at the command of their gutless, hedonistic lovers' dancing, as they are, to the tune of the demons controlling them, and colloquially known as the tender notion of a mere abortion previously understood to be Mass Murder. Hitler couldn't do as well as we have, and he followed Margaret Sanger's game plan! Yet, "rational" minds condemn Hitler while calling abortion a Feminist woman's right and ideal! Only to find themselves alone, rich or destitute, rational or insane, living in tents by the interstate or fortunate enough to be cared for for a short while in an assisted living home till the money disappears or a Covid jab brings a pulmonary edema or a brain tumor or some other rare and curiously unique disease lays them all low.
@XramBrain
@XramBrain 2 жыл бұрын
@@roberthalf1094 Animals are incapable of making rational thoughts that even ancient philosophers have openly declared so. As you claimed soldiers in WW1, yes because they are human, but in your examples as to lions, again, they hunt act on it based on instinct and not on any rational thought. I've never heard any lion or animal who have formed their own philosophy or political structure out of rationality. Animals may have their order or heirarchy but it is because of their natural order or as designed by God and not thru their rational thought.
