Been watching videos on stop strategies for the past day now... i'm learning that properly managing stops is probably one of, if not, t h e most critical strategies in trading. Invaluable knowledge.

also you can keep a tight stop but after your stop is hit, if the price then reverses to go in your intended direction, you can get back in the trade....which is why i like to use a different term instead of "stop", such as "sell and watch"...your new safety sell point would be just a bit above or below (depending on if your trade was long or short) the new pivot where the stops got taken out.

What can I say I am a noob for now. I had a good stop, my original stop that is. Then I saw price move up, I move my stop loss as well. Market comes down, takes me out, moves higher. Lesson learned, leave original stop loss since I’ve already admitted I might lose. I’m the one responsible for terrible trade management. My fault, will do better next time!

I very much agree with the thought pattern: "Put your stop where your trade plan/ idea gets invalidated if triggered". I go by this and seems to work very, very well in most cases.

I'm going to try that second method, moving the trade down a level. Also, your charm really shines in this video. Well done, and thank you.

@UKspreadbetting Another thing we can do inorder to not miss an obvious rally is to enter at the initial point with only half the position and average only if it goes against and starts moving back in your direction

It's true that my stoploss is very tight, if anyone know an honest broker which never stop hunt, please let me know. I would be truly thankful!

buy a 2. position where you would usually put a stop in case it dobbel downs hedge it just to hold the loss neutral with a stop on the hedge wait for it to rise the hedge stop loss will ping out and you get your to wins when it eventually goes up

I have considered this idea with multiple accounts, but never pulled the trigger, instead I stopped using stops 2 years ago, and I have been doing really well without them... I stick to really "safe" investments, (banks, blue chip) etc so I don't have to be overly concerned with losing capital in the long run, and as long as they pay a juicy dividend, I am making money all they way along and I just wait for the price to go in my favour to start trading again, and meanwhile if the per share price keeps dropping I just average down and lower my per share price average, so the reversal is all the sweeter... but with all that said I like your idea, I think it is a good one.... How has it been working for you...?

How often, if you use the strategy of putting your buy order in where the average person is putting his stop - well how often do you actually buy the position compared to never getting in the trade at all because your buy limit order was never reached

In modern competitive markets, use text book stops behind the previous 2 pivots, then YOU WILL be stopped out for fun by the market makers, which will totally fk with your trading psychology. Markets will set up text book trades, let the retail traders all swim into the net, then stop the fuck out of them before then taking the markets in the direction of all the stopped out trades. I see this time and time and time and time again. Don't use a text book stop. Forget all this 2:1, 3:1 rr bullshit, take trades at solid levels, set targets at logical levels. Place your stop well away from all the traffic and use it only as insurance for 'Black Swan' events where some fundamental factor causes the market to turn against your trade like a speeding bulldozer, which is why you have to forget about all that 2:1, 3:1 bs. If you are wrong, let the chart action tell you that you are wrong, and then: a) Place limit order at break even level (if your entry was at a solid level, high chances are, you will get the opportunity to exit at scratch) b) Then start moving your stop into a position closer to the action Problem with this approach, is that you need to be good at trading to begin with and capable of recognising likely market behaviour. Only time I would recommend a 'text book' stop is when trading break outs, but the vast majority of opportunities in the market, do not require the trader to hit breaks of support or resistances. Only in very specific circumstances should a trader enter on a break.....simply hitting breaks carte blanche will see you stopped out over and over and over again......just the way the market works. 'They' see the same charts you and I do and 'they' know what you are thinking. Their job is to take your money off you.
