Hey this is amazing, I’m excited for the brick version of this

so this for basecolor, I cant figure out how to do the same for roughness and metal maps since theyre connected with alpha to the shader and there isnt a similar paramete on triplanar node
@cgsideАй бұрын
Duplicate the triplanar node with the same parameters for each texture and connect to the shader. I think that should work

Exactly was trying to find this video on Maya after watching Andrew's video ! Thanks KZbin suggest that ! But I also want to know how can I do this inside of substance painter !? Is it possible !? Most of the time doing most of the texture work there ! And this problem is taking over
@cgside2 жыл бұрын
Hi, glad it was useful for you. You can use triplanar projection in substance painter, but as far as I know no option to rotate the tiles and blend. What you can do is to bake the texture inside Maya and import it to substance, but that is not the best workflow. Cheers.

@@cgside oh yeah okay ! Right in tryplaner also no rotate option available !

Hey, ive tired doing this but as soon as i connect the triplanar everything goes black
@cgside Жыл бұрын
You need to connect a file node to the input of the triplanar and make sure you have the option "use input for all axis" on. Also play with the scale, if it's not that I am not sure what can be the issue.

I'm facing the same problem now. Once I create the aitriplaner everything goes black, even if I follow exactly your steps. Too pity... @@cgside

i'm doing projection, that's where i need to blend the textures, but it fails, can i have idea how can i do this if i'm having projection (i'm using texture for displacement )
@cgside Жыл бұрын
I guess it only works as triplanar projection.. not sure. Sometimes is tricky to mix Maya specific nodes with Arnold.

The problem is that the triplanar node doesn't rotate normals, and I didn't dound any way or node that may rotate normals. Did you?

I replied in your previous comment.

Thank you yet again. These things are so hidden and buried in Maya and Arnold. How do you even find that these types of nodes even exist????
@cgside2 жыл бұрын
Triplanar projection is very useful, so when you really need it you find new stuff ;)
@CGStirk2 жыл бұрын
Too bad this doesn't work for normal maps. I wish they exposed each cell's rotation value.
2 жыл бұрын
In my opinion it indeed works. The problem is that you expect it to work as usual (normal map connected to triplanar and that to bump node and then to the shader), but it works in reverse. The map connects to the bump node, then goes into the triplanar and then to the shader.
@CGStirk2 жыл бұрын
@ I had another look at this and I still cannot get it to work either way. The original setup was as you recommended, but the vectors are still being rotated with each cell so the shadows are not consistent.
@cgside2 жыл бұрын
Yep, for normal maps you better use osl like the video on your channel, I am still trying to find a solution for displacement, that is the main problem :/
2 жыл бұрын
@@CGStirk Mmmm, that's strange, I use that way all the time for terrain shading, I guess you are pretty sure you are using the arnold normal map prior to triplanar node, right? But you can go the OSL route also, although I'm not familiar to it.
@CGStirk2 жыл бұрын
@@cgside Yeah when I have some time I need to look into it again. I was trying to use Redshift, but their implementation of OSL is different from Arnold's and V-Ray's. Everyone seems to make their own rules lol but it means the functionality is different too.

This is exactly what I wanted, thank you so much! I was really wondering how to break tiling of texture in Maya after watching so many Blender folks do it. Eagerly waiting for the inorganic texture tiling video!! P.s. So I ran into some problems, does the process not work on UVd geometry? I have a ground plane that has proper Uvs and it doesn't seem to work. Is there a fix to this?
@cgside2 жыл бұрын
Hi James. It should work, as the aiTriplanar node doesn't rely on uv's. If you have any problems consider joining Arvid Schneider's discord discord.gg/z35NUgV and ask for help. If I am around I might be able to have a look at your scene. Cheers.

@cgside Жыл бұрын
Hey, not sure if I'm following , you dont need to assign both materials, just the one with the triplanar mapping.
