My 15 weeks GSD is relaxing in her crate after a morning training session. She playing with her squeaky toy. For me, ignoring her on first day solve the problem for me when she was 6 weeks. I turn on the oven vent. Which help her to sleep. She good now. I don't even used the oven vent anymore. When I leave for a hour or 2. She doesn't whine or bark. Oh. My. Gosh. I have to start out with Admittedly my biggest issue was defaulting into passive training mode where I would correct while I was working on something else. This forced me into a mindful training mindset, and it not only trained my dog to not bark in the kennel. I came out with a perspective I am now utilizing for training and even other life skills. This technique worked really well. Now how do I train the other humans in the house to stop talking to dogs as if they were humans. They are depreciating the value of the dogs names!!!

Gale the way you explain training a puppy so absolutely concise and enlightening. I’ve been using your videos to help with certain issues and they’re so fantastic. Last night we played games with my puppy to get in and out of the crate as well as stay so I can get the leash on her first thing in the morning. Well this morning she sat there waiting for me to get the leash for her. She did try to nuzzle out before I got the leash attached but it’s getting better and that’s my point. Thank you from the bottom of my heart. So now we’re going to blend in the quiet training. It takes her about fifteen minutes for her to calm down and stop howling before bed. It’s so sad and I’m sure we’ve reinforced that somehow. However this video is going to work. I just know it. She has grown by leaps and bounds just learning from your videos so thank you.

Hi. I just discovered your channel and am so excited to watch your content. We will be bringing our new puppy home at the end of January so I have some time to get back up to speed (it’s been over ten years since we had a puppy in the house!). One question which I didn’t see answered in your list of video titles - do you have recommendations on what to do when you have a long drive to get home with your new puppy? We are picking up our puppy from an out of state breeder and it will take us approximately seven-eight hours to get home. What should we do with her during that time? What about food, water, crating, etc. I don’t want her first trip in a car to be too stressful either. Thanks so much! (This subject could make a good video 😉)

Many years ago, I had adopted a puppy last minute on a weekend. No planning time. I worked in a law office and brought the puppy to work with me first day, full of apologies. Had a conversation with my boss and brainstormed how I might be able to come back and forth during the day to break up crate time at home. To my absolute delight, the boss said, “Carol, why don’t you just bring the pup with you everyday for a few months to work through the puppy training”. What??? I would never have asked! Turned out that the clients LOVED having the dog there and she became quite a little ambassador for the office. She would comfort stressed clients and was even welcomed into the courthouse when I walked over there to do my daily filing. I know this would not work at most jobs, but I certainly never imagined it could work in my situation. Next puppy, hubby and I took turns coming home during the day so the pup had attention twice each workday for a walk and some people time. That pup did really well too. Good luck!

LOL! We were sitting for the. Grand-dogger and dealing with her screaming in the crate (separation anxiety?). I was being sarcastic with hubby and set my tablet down in front of the crate with a KZbin video going and to my absolute astonishment, the dog laid down and settled. A friend’s rescued dog had destroyed a metal crate and asked for help. We did some crate games and to practice leaving the house, we took doggo for a walk, placed doggo in the crate, turned on an audio book and left. It was MAGIC.

have you tried closing the door slowly? like, one day you move it just a little bit,the other day you move it more, and more, and nore until its finally closed. Or shutting the door when he is doing something? Like eating inside the crate or chewing on a toy. That worked for my pup

Exercising them beforehand always helps whether it's a longer walk or a really good play session that way they're calmer and have had that bit of happy hormones from the exercise. Often if a puppy hasn't had enough of an outlet before having to settle they'll just go berserk and bark up a storm especially a high energy breed like a husky that was bred to run for miles a day.

What are u using for treats for the session
@limanino8 ай бұрын
Hey, friend, I'll try to answer you. Listen, as far as I know, you should never give your dog "free food". Instead, they should "earn" the food through a behavior you want. So the treats during training are usually the own dog's regular food, no need to buy new stuff. This means you can get the total amount of food of the day and separate it into portions: some for training sessions and some for regular moments. A training session would be something more complex, like new tricks, crate training, etc. Anything you guys are still working. A "regular moment" can be giving them food after they do the tricks they ALREADY know, such as sit, down, roll over... If your dog hasn't leaned any tricks tho, it can be something as simple as stop jumping/barking to the plate of food in your hand ou sitting as to wait for you to put the plate on the floor. None of us have time for so many training sessions per day, right? 😅 Just remember to keep an eye on the amount of food, avoid giving them more food than they should eat in a single day, ok? Good luck!

I always struggle with my puppy staying in her crate if I leave the door open. sometimes I’ve left the door unlocked with just the blanket over it and she eventually comes out. I recommend Crate Games. However even once you build up your duration you will want to come release her before she breaks the command. My question is why you want her to stay for an extended period of time with the door open? Ideally the crate should be a safe space she goes in and out of at will unless you specifically asked her to go in
