Went out and played in the rain yesterday after cutting the lawn and put down my first app of Hydretain. Never used it before so I can't wait to see how effective it is. Preakness week here and this is when things usually start to heat up. So much rain recently that I have to put down more propiconzol again. Trying to stay on top of that right now also.

Great tips. I know the lawn you are talking about; it looked great until they mowed it way too low. Another tip, in addition to the one that suggested knowing your grass type, is knowing when to stay off the lawn. For cool season lawns, when it is the heat of the summer, you want to mow less and avoid a lot of traffic on the stressed lawn. The inverse is generally true for warm season grasses.

Another great video Mr. Ferguson. Based on my experience after a complete renovation last fall, I would add grubs, and the moles, skunks, etc that come digging for them to the list! Make sure you get a treatment down for them this spring!

Thanks so much for adding the fungus treatment chemicals to your description. That helps out a lot. We're in MD, and I renovated our front yard with Mountain View tall fescue last fall, and I was looking for something to use as fungus prevention. Love your channel.

Great information Mr. Ferguson. Here in Archdale had close to 3 inches in my rain gauge. More coming. Might be able to mow some time lol. Started mowing my lawn at 4 inches now. Good rain and great temps for month of May in NC!

Great information. Lawn disease control is key, but over use of fungicide can be just as bad if not worse.

A 4th will be to keep the blades on the mower sharpened.

Absolutely. I think we could have done a Top 5 or 10! You are right though, many homeowners have likely NEVER sharpened the blades.

I just found your channel yesterday. Im about a hour east of Raleigh and just planted GCI TTTF a month ago. Its looking good so far, i got sprinklers all over the yard prepared for the summer heat. Hoping for the best 🤞

I made the fatal mistake of not having grubs on my radar last spring and the damage to my lawn was far above any fungus damage that I had at any time. Number 1 for me is grubs,

I mentioned that before I edited it out for time. Insects can devastate the lawn too for sure.

amen man - this year the grubs have really impacted some new sod I put in (palmetto variety St. Augustine in central FL). I was maybe 3-4 weeks behind them as I was out of town & then missed the early damage, and they really decimated things. Putting down imidicloprid + bifenthren. We'll see! Still watching for new growth to gauge my approach's effectiveness

Another common mistake is homeowners not know their grass type. I can't tell you how many times I've seen people mess up by putting chemicals intended for warm season grasses on their cool season grass.

I love that you returned us to basics. It can be easy to go down the rabbit hole and forget the foundation elements. Thanks! Question- I’m in second year of transition to proper cool season grass. Dealing w a lot of poa and trying to decide between pre-emergent in the Fall or overseed. I’m thinking I’ll overseed and hit preemergent very early in the year- Any thoughts?

Thanks! Being you are only in your second year, I would go at least 3 years straight overseeding fescue to establish it well. Then consider pre emergent at that time.

Wild question, but have you ever encountered these CLOVER MITES and if so what did you use to get rid of them. Because all the products from big box stores or any natural remedies are NOT working. For anyone that doesn’t know, it’s a little mite that leaves red/brown/greenish blood stains.

I cut my TTTF at 2" last year, it looked nice, but when it came to be summer & drought hit, it went dormant. Didnt recover til rain finally came & took a week. This summer, im gonna cut it at 3". im overseeding in fall, so i just put down Sta green natural 8-0-2 on backyard, should all be rained in today. Early June gonna bradcast spray humic, sea k, on backyard. Then every 2 weeks spray .25 lbs N during summer. Plan is just to water once a week. Will see how this plan works.

@@nealwhite1474 I can cut it at 2" in Spring & Fall, I just learned it can't survive that height in Summer. But TTTF can be cut low, but obviously it does better at 3"+. Look at ryan knorr, I have his seed in my backyard. He was testing it at low curs. Again, it can be done, just not recommended. Through April & May I cut it at 2", but starting next week, bc will start to be 75+, everyday, I'll be going to 3". But once it cools down again in Fall, back to 2".

@@nealwhite1474you do realize majority of modern TTTF cultivars don't need to be very tall? In summer it's absolutely common sense to have a bit higher than Spring but look up the spec sheets of a lot of cultivars and they typically recommend a 2-3 inch HOC. It's TTTF not K31.
