Yep, it has been hot with low humidity and breezy in North Raleigh, which is a trifecta of danger for tall fescue. Tall Fescue needs to get it's act together.

My tall fescue is barely surviving due to having a lot of shade I just hope it stays green through September.

I live in southern pa. Were going to be high 90s all week. No rain in past 3 weeks. Its funny because all 60 of my lawn customers still wanted cut even when i gave them the option for about half. My yards have a lot of fine fescue mixed with tttf and blue. Treated yards still kinda green but the fine fescue checks out no matter what. I hate fine fescue so much.

Great video - It's gonna be a hot summer!!! I realize that no matter what, in ground irrigation or basic sprinklers...come August EVERYONE'S fescue is fried. Im Ok with fescue season being over and maintaining as best you can at this point until early September overseed. For now, watering is in Gods hands 🙏

live in the desert southwest….where we really have zero business growing grass / lawns. It’s been over 100 for several days this late spring….Water is VERY expensive and we also have water restrictions. No watering on Mondays…We are allowed to water every other day before 11 A.M. I don’t have a large lawn and I believe most of the grass I have is Bermuda grass. I have found that “hand watering” is what has kept my grass alive…The built in sprinklers just don’t cut it. Hand watering seems to be the solution…however, it’s more work.

I'm in the desert too (San Bernardino, Helendale) we are getting into the 104-107 range later this week. I have new fescue that I planted back in April. It's struggling. Your lucky if you have Bermuda, it likes this weather, I have a small amount that I'm trying to kill and it just won't stop growing right now.

3rd year on GCI TTTF here. This summer is the first summer I've noticed that the yard is able to hold on longer before showing drought stress. I've only watered hot spots and typically those spots will typically bounce back within an hour.

Don't feel bad I got a nice diy irrigation setup and I still have heat stress with me watering each zone 2-3 times a week for 20 to 30 minutes each cycle, starting at 5 am. I will be moving the zones that get twice a week up to 3 times.

My brother in Christ Jesus greeting to you and your family! I just reseeded my lawn with triple threat, my question I have for you is how long does it take before I begin to see seed germination ( reseeded on jun 12) I see no signs of germination?
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 15 күн бұрын
Hey Brian. It typically takes 5-7 days to see signs of germination of fescue. However, it’s so hot right now, dont think it can survive. I recommend waiting until September to seed.

Have you ever thought of harvesting rain? Here in WI the trend is to use IBC Tote Tanks. Small ones are 250 gallons and I have seen some 330 gallon ones for sale.

Yea I've seen this used in other nations as well. It's not a terrible idea, but no I don't have plans for this at this home right now. I can understand it gaining popularity though.

I always stop putting stripes in my lawn before it gets hot. It seems to help just a bit. Once we hit those 90 plus days NC it’s a rap regardless.

Mr Ferguson, i have no idea what your financial situation is but, water is not that expensive. I have an irrigation system with 7 zones and 45 heads. I water so much when the weather gets like this we've had the town water department contact us because they thought we had a water leak because we were using thousands of gallons a week. Last summer one month we used something like 17k gallons of water. Thought the bill was gonna be outrageous, but didnt care cause i wasnt gonna let my hard work go. Long story short the bill was like $280 for the month. In the grand scheme of things, thats a small amount to pay to save yourself the amount of time and money fixing everything in the fall. Just water the crap out it and stop worrying about it lol.
@MrFergusonLawn
@MrFergusonLawn 27 күн бұрын
😂 I appreciate it brother, but I’ve watered what sounds like half of that, and last year or before had a $405 bill. It is expensive where I am. It varies around the nation and that’s something you should consider. And believe me, if we could just water the mess out of it, we would. I did back then to get through summer, but no sir, can’t afford $400+ bills for multiple months.

My lawn is beginning to check out, with 9-10 consecutive 90 degree days without water but the key is to have your grass height on fescue/kbg/rye around 4.5”. Some edges of my lawn are going dormant. However 1”-2” of rain will make the lawn come back. I’m not worried at all. No irrigation and my lawn is looking great. My lawn will come back during summer.

Wow, I'm very disappointed in the hydretain. Might have worked better to apply the initial big dose a week ago vs a mouth ago. How is it doing on the shrubs/potted grass? I was thinking of putting hydretain in a few of our potted plants so I can just water them 2 x a week vs every other day, but now I'm thinking hydretain is just hype in real 90 to 100+ summer temps.
@MrFergusonLawn

Well, it’s very difficult to predict no rain lol. When we applied, we got rain. It seems to be helping on the plants some, but not much in the lawn.
