when learning Korean, this kind of advice is what I would have loved to have heard from day one, It’s never to late to start learning a language, or to reassess if what you’ve learned is the right way. Korean can be so difficult not only as a language, but include culture and social marks, the language is just harder and harder the more you seem to learn. the whole "making mistakes is okay" thing is easier said than done xD PS: With French it depends if the native speakers are from France or from somewhere else ;) (and of course there are cool French people too)

@@Reisszahnpuschel oh totally, it’s always much easier said than done to just accept embarassment :p but it’s also great to acknowledge that these mistakes can help us grow, even the most embarassing moments! ah yeah, I’m sure there’s cool french ppl, they just don’t seem to have the best reputation (especially online lol)

Coming from a 9-year non native Korean speaker, I agree with every single thing you said. In the beginning I was struggling to use 존댓말 to people I was close with because in my native language I would speak to the same type of people informally. Same with the titles, I was literally refusing to call someone 형 because it felt so weird. Great video!

@@drafeirha thanks a ton! like you said, I think these points are specifically good things to consider from an early stage since these kinds of thinks like 존댓말 or titles don’t exist in the same way as in korean and it can be so awkward at first - but if you can acknowledge it from the start, it’s wayyyy better. thank you for sharing :-)

Until recently, I've struggled to tell ㅅ and ㅆ apart, especially when it's used so fast.

ohhhh my god, the doubled characters were so hard for me as first. if you are familiar with spanish at all, the pronounciation is so similar to some of the pronounciations in spanish, so that really helped me with getting things like ㅃ and ㄲ down hahaha best of luck! :-)

Wow, that's exactly what I want to tell to my international friends!! Because I use 존댓말 to people that I met just a few times for the most part👥 No matter how old they are (In the view of language learners, I know 존댓말 is more difficult to memories than 반말😅)

@@Jingerbeer-go9ko yesss I’m glad you agree! it feels so natural to speak to friends or people you’re close to in 반말 (banmal) but if you can master the comfortablility in both casual and formal, that’s true language skill imo hahah thank you for sharin your thoughts!

I never know when to call people unnie, or oppa like i know you are older but can i call you that yet?

when first meeting somebody, it’s always a good idea to ask their age in korea. asking age is always one of the first things people ask in korea hahah it’s pretty important to get used to. if this meeting is in a friendly manner, such as language exchange or with other friends, if they are a couple or some years older than you, it’s a good chance to tell them “오빠네요” or “언니네요” basically acknowledging they are older than you, and setting the idea to call them using those titles. this is something done when the environment is casual and friendly, but still using 존댓말 (formal language). this is so simplified; there’s so much nuance that goes into these kind of meetings, and a lot of experience with korean speaking environment helps, so get yourself out there as much as possible and you’ll learn quickly! :-)
