Upgraded i7 9700k and RoG Z390 , 32 GB 3200Mhz DDR4, ASUS Ryuo 240MM AIO, 3080 12GB , 850 Watt Enermax D.F. PSU, to i7 13700k and Z690 platform. Kept the 32GB DDR4, 3080, Enermax PSU, AIO and went with the Z690 ASUS TUF D4 motherboard with the 13700k. Had to buy a used 12th Generation Celeron (LOL) to get the Z690 to post with the 13700k. Plan to upgrade to a DDR5 motherboard in late 2023 or early 2024 when DDR5 RAM has improved speeds and lowered cost over DDR4. Then will put the 12th generation Celeron on the DDR4 Z690 motherboard and have a KZbin/browser machine! 😁

I just built my first PC for 3D modeling in Blender and some light gaming. I get good performance out of it, but I feel like I could have gotten better performance with a different cpu/GPU combo. I’m not sure where to upgrade. I have about $800 for upgrades, but can be flexible as i can sell my current cpu or gpu to help find the upgrade. My current build is: Ryzen 5 5600X GeForce 3060Ti 8GB Rog strix b550-f II 2x16 Corsair vengeance CL16 DDR4 Id-cooling frost flow 240x AIO 850W psu (I forget the brand and model) P.s. thanks to PC builder and Ty’s help I think I’ll go with a 5950X to replace my cpu for now, and use the rest to save for a better GPU. But lmk what advice you’ve got!

I just realized that the drama about builds and how they don't mix well is what keeps me interested in the "Boost My Build" series. It's not that Jason actively hates the PC builds sent in, but his heart is in the right place in helping the PC community get the most out of their submission by making sure each person who submits to the series gets a great experience. And that's what every viewer sees and that's why we tune in!!!

I especially love how Jason uses the budget of the PC by using all the money wisely and hardly ever going over budget! It’s nice to hear things like, “just get the cheapest NVME SSD because faster speeds are irrelevant to gaming. He never belittles people, and instead will be like, “I can see what you were trying to do but…”

Hey Jason! I'm looking to get a new PC that's around 700-800 dollars. I got a computer a little over a year ago from family and it has a decade old Radeon 7800 HD! I've been running MW2 on the lowest settings and still can only push about 40 frames on a good map. I was wanting some insight on PC parts because I'm very new. My PC part picker lineup is as follows: i3 12100-F: $107 ID COOLING SE-214-XT: $20 ASRock B660M-HDV Micro ATX LGA1700 Motherboard:$95 Corsair Vengeance LPX 16 GB (2 x 8 GB) DDR4-3200 CL16 Memory: $50 TEAMGROUP MP33 512 GB M.2-2280 PCIe 3.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive: $32 MSI MECH 2X OC Radeon RX 6650 XT 8 GB Video Card: $260 Rosewill PRISM S500 ATX Mid Tower Case: $55 Cooler Master MasterWatt 550 550 W 80+ Bronze Certified Semi-modular ATX Power Supply:$85 Total of roughly $705 excluding any shipping. I was wanting to play MW2 on medium settings at 100 fps. Streaming potentially but that isn't a concern for me currently. Is this an adequate build for the price?

Lenovo - Legion Tower 5 AMD Gaming Desktop - AMD Ryzen 7-5700G - 16GB Memory - NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 - 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD - Raven Black 650 watt PSU. Can I just drop a 4070Ti in this thing and get an amazing boost? The ryzen 7 May bottle neck a bit but everything else seems to hold up? New GPU and 1440p Oled monitor to blow my mind with an upgrade? Somebody validate my dreams or crush them please!

The m27q x is in stock at a retailer I'm not too sure about at about £50 premium, and the only 4k 240hz is a VA panel which I'm not sure about considering I like to game competitively too, also its 32" which is probs too big for me. A 4k 240hz IPS or OLED would possibly be a buy, but can't imagine the price.. I just want something I can be happy with long term as I don't upgrade too often.

Just learnt a valuable lesson today. Bought a 4090, I currently have a 10900k on Z490, with 32gig of 3200mhz ram. I game in 4k, so i was like " ill only lose 3-4% fps with that CPU, for 4k gaming. All good.... welllllll not really 🤣🤣 it may be true for the CPU, but forgot about everything else. The PCIE 3.0, that's Nother 5-6 fps, the lower ram, another 8-10 fps. Add that to the cpu and i am seeing a 10-15% drop in fps from youtubers benchmark. Lesson learned

Hey PC Builder. I have really enjoyed your PC build review series, and it has been very informative and helpful to me, considering I have been out of the market for quite some time. My current PC is a 9 y/o dinosaur that is still running on a failing disk drive, so needless to say I am looking to replace it and would love some feedback so I am not wasting any money or potential in my build. I am looking to keep this build around the 1-1.2k $ mark. This is entirely a gaming PC (don't any streaming, video editing, photoshop, etc.) and I mostly play Indie games, but I do want some heft to the PC's CPU since plan to play some newer gen, open world games like Elden Ring and Ghosts of Tsushima, as well as some heavily modded/gussied up Minecraft with my friends. I plan on getting a 1440p monitor when sales start again and would like to run these games on high/ultra settings using it if possible. I also would like some potential to upgrade this rig in the future unlike what I did with my previous, so I chose an Intel motherboard that I hear can support DDR4 and 5. Here is what I have put together with some advice from a buddy of mine: pcpartpicker.com/list/pTBG4she He also recommend I could downgrade to a 12600k Processor if I wanted to skimp a little, or a 3070 card if I wanted to splurge some more. Oh, and as far as a case goes I am down with whatever is cost effective a day aerated well (not really into any unecessary flash or bells and whistles for my PC. I would appreciate any advice you have and look forward to more installments of these series. Thanks a bunch. 👍

At the moment, the only game i play is World of Tanks in 1080P and other very non demanding games and i still get 100+fps. The plan is to eventually upgrade my GPU later down the road. Will i run into any issues?
@PCBuilderChannel

That will be a huge gpu bottleneck and I don't recommend it. Remember video editing is not just about your CPU, you need a GPU that can render and actually function well with the CPU. I don't know what you current CPU is but Im better you would be much much better off upgrading your current GPU. You need at least a 3060 for a basic editing machine. Then pair it with the best CPU you can manage with your budget, a 12600k or 5600X would be good choices. Only go into 13th gen if you can go for minimum 3070 GPU.

I am currently in the market for a GPU, specifically an Overclocked one from the Radeon 6600 Series. Additionally, I am looking for storage options, specifically the Crucial P3 Plus 2 TB M.2-2280 PCIe 4.0 X4 NVME Solid State Drive for storage of games and projects and 250GB to 1TB SSD to store the operating system and the driver of the System. I am also looking for a tower that must have a swinging door for convenience of cleaning the PC and allowing airflow out of the PC is it starts to Overheat too much, the one I am currently looking at is the MSI MPG Quietude 100S ATX Mid Tower Case. I am looking at the Corsair RM850x (2021) 850 W 80+ Gold Certified Fully Modular ATX Power Supply as my power supply. I am looking for specific advice to optimize my first PC for gaming, video editing and programming, and I want to be able to play games like Rimworld, Football Manager, League of Legends, Battlefield, Stellaris, RPGs like Elder Scrolls, Cyberpunk, Souls Games and COD. I am looking for a balance of performance and affordability and my budget is between 1500-2000 euros. I already spent 869.13 euros, so I would like to know what other components would be the best fit for the remaining budget. We need to come together as the PCMR community and refuse to pay these exorbitant prices! They still need to go down another $150 but it's a start in the right direction. The Godzilla build is really cool; but i would go with the 360 AIO because 3 fans look better than 2 and it helps to tie the motherboard and case together, where as I think the 240 that just hangs over the motherboard feels isolated from the rest of the inside of the case if that makes any sense. The motherboard i bought was the asus strix x670x-a, which is only $419! I know you dont need an x board, but if you are building a high end pc especially one like this you should have one; it is just a better stronger constructed motherboard that may get more life out of for years to come. The ryzen 7700x is all you need for gaming, I wouldnt bother with the 3D when it comes out; the 4090 will run 4k only as going to even 144p will probably bottleneck the CPU regardless of which one you get! Always enjoy watching these.

Boost story #3 Hey and what's up, Jason. A Few days ago, this dude (Justine) in the Philippines wants a Php 50k build for his friend who does her freelance video editing and graphics rendering. He sent me his list on facebook messenger to see if it was good. I wish I could see the look your face the moment you see the parts list he made, which is ridiculous. A time machine of a bottleneck here: -Ryzen 5 3600, - Deepcool gamaxx 300 cooler - Aorus X570 elite ax - 2x8 Tcreate 3200 CL22 - 512GB Apacer SATA ssd - Gigabyte GTX 1650 msi M100r (he's trying to put an ATX case to an MATX case) -Cooler Master 750w bronze V2 I was baffled by the parts list so here's my boost I gave him. - Ryzen 5 5600 - PCOOLER PALADIN EX 400 ARGB cooler - Gigabyte B550m Ds3h - TForce Vulcan tuf edition 2x16 3600 Cl18 - Crucial P2 1tb - XFX Qick RX 6600xt - Tecware Neo Matx case - MSI A650BN. Regarding 16GB being enough: just noticed while doing a new playthrough of witcher 3, that the ram usage went up to nearly 15GB. In 1440p with about high settings. So going to 32GB from 16GB for 30-40$ more at DDR4 sounds pretty reasonable to me.

Perhaps in the future you could do a spinoff of the BMB series, say like, "Show My Build" where users can submit pictures of their build as well as the specs (what CPU, GPU, RAM, etc.) or maybe "Rate My Build" which could be the same thing, only other users (or maybe even yourself) can rate how they are.

To the "Godzilla" build: you've mentioned the Inno card as a 4090. I have an X3 OC in my PC, and it's just superb. Only 1 Inno3D light on it, no other RGB, 450W max and below 60C the fans are not running, so it is really quiet. If you have opportunity, highly suggesting to check it. And also one of the cheapest 4090s. Also to this build: personally I'd go with a 13700KF + CL16 DDR4 instead of an AMD + DDR5. If someone builds his/her 1st PC, there can be way too much troble with AM5 processors if it is not 101% compatible with the RAM on the board :(
@gamepro94z
@gamepro94z Жыл бұрын
If your building a new PC and you can afford it you should definitly go for an AM5 build. Why would you buy new into a generation that has ended? You will never be able to upgade the CPU to keep up with the latest gpus. If AM5 lasts as long as AM4 then its going to be a great investment. If you want to upgrade the CPU in the future you will have to buy a new board, and ram.

You went from 24 cores, efficiency cores included to 8 cores. I use 8 cores and it's hardly enough for VR and if you ever decide to record footage of the games you're playing you're going to have a bad time in some cases, especially rendering lag on the viewport. Even my 3070 struggles to record and play games at the same time so in some cases it needs to be offloaded to the CPU where there is usually some headroom, but having more headroom is preferable. I wouldn't put an i9 in the system, but I would definitely choose a CPU with a bit more cores. When I build PC's I don't just build them to game because people's interests in their PC changes over time, so I usually have it somewhat prepared for things like video editing.

Cool video series! I'm always going to recommend the Lian Li O11 Dynamic Evo with vertical mount for hot GPUs. The vertical mount is an extr $100 to an already $200ish case but you can have three 120mm fans on the bottom of the case blowing fresh air across the GPU. Three exhaust fan on the top and an AIO on the side, you're blowing fresh air across your GPU being sucked out the top. It's a bit wider than most cases because the PSU is on the back side but there is plenty of room for PSU cables with extensions and RGB controllers. I love the Lian Li AL120s or similar because with 13 fans, I use one RGB controller. If that case seems pricey, the Lian Li Lancool 216 is awesome at ~$120. It has two spots for 120mm fans on the bottom that will draw fresh air from the side and it comes with two 160mm fans in the front

I will have to build a new pc this year, even though I would have liked to keep it possibly one year longer. My current 9 year old xeon E3-1240 v3 system with a R9 290 4 GB videocard and 32 GB RAM still performs decent for me, but one of my 4TB HDD's just failed (giving me only 8.5 GB TB instead of the 12.5 I used to have), 2 of the 3 fans of my videocard have fallen off, my cpu now crashes when it gets at 70 degrees celcius and most system fans have died. Currently it works with a big table fan blowing at it, keeping my cpu around 40 degrees and my gpu during gaming at 93 degrees (it crashes my pc at a 100). During the summer it's always very hot in here (I have a flat roof and live above a bakery), so I guess it is time to dive into what budget I have and what parts to assemble, before the summer hits.

Thanks a bunch Jason, as well as your subscriber whom inquired about the Godzilla build. I actually had a fairly similar system in mind, I also went with a Z790 motherboard (€279 here) and an i9-13900K (not KF). I too selected the Samsung 980 SSD, which I now will most likely change to your recommendation. What I did like about the Z790 motherboard is that it has 4x M2 slot, if I want the same from the B650 motherboard I pay €120 extra. The upcoming 7800X3D CPU sounds interesting though. Since I've been waiting for quite some time with my build I can hold out a little longer. The Phanteks case looks great! I might go for that. I had selected the Corsair iCue 7000X, to be paired up with the AIO cooler Corsair H150i Elite LCD

If it is only gaming and you do not care about ray tracing, get 6650XT or 6700XT

@@drakata27 I agree with you. I like Jason also prefer NVMEs to SATA drives. Otherwise it looks good.

I have some old parts that I would like to put to use. Lian Li mATX case, Cooler Master MasterWatt 650 Semi-Fanless Modular 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Power, EVGA 1070 SC, 2- 8Gig sticks of ddr4 2666 ram and some other odds and ends. What mobo/cpu combo would you suggest to use that won't break the bank that will run Windows 11. Must have Wi-Fi, the comp. will only be used for light gaming and web surfing.
