This ID will also allow access to internet, healthcare, driving licence, the lot). The money will be programmable (see BiS director Augustin Karstens talk on CBDC) and may have purchasing limitations linked to your ID's carbon allowance (such as limiting red meat, flights, fuel for car etc as well as distance limitations to keep your spending within say 15 minutes). Your universal basic income amount will depend on your rating (common, restricted, quarantined) as will your limits on private asset ownership ("you will own nothing and be happy"; they weren't joking). The sovereign class will have no such restrictions (8 to 10 million world wide). It is a digital prison folks and has been planned for a very very long time.

It’s the reverse of the system that used to operate in Pubs, Butcher’s shops etc., where customers would ask the owner to ‘put it on the slate’. The shop provided credit (to known and trustworthy customers) and the balance outstanding would be settled at the end of the week or month. Richard’s suggestion has the customer providing credit to the shopkeeper. Nothing wrong with that of course, because the shopkeeper wouldn’t need to ask the bank for a loan. The banks and their shareholders are not going to like that!

It all sounds great Richard, however, having been in business, and owning and running a 'convenience store' you are forgetting a simple truth. The business owner needs to replenish his stock, therefore he needs to either be able to use cash, or card with his suppliers. The cash he uses is the cash taken over the counter, the remainder being his gross profit, from which all his overheads are paid leaving a net profit. The supplier, or cash and carry being a 'large' business won't accept the gold as an exchange for goods!

In a world of codes and screens we tread, A cashless path where many are led, Banks now shy from notes held high, And digital waves make our wallets sigh. Is this the future we've longed to see, A realm of bytes, where coins are free? No more rustling bills, no jingling change, Yet whispers echo, is it strange? Convenience calls, a digital dance, No more fumbling wallets in a glance, Transactions swift, at the tap of a thumb, But shadows creep, as whispers hum. Banks refuse the notes once cherished, Large withdrawals denied, hope perished, Are we trading freedom for ease, As paper fades like autumn leaves? Privacy wanes, as data trails gleam, In the cyberspace, like a vivid dream, Can we trust the lines of code, When paper and ink no longer hold? Yet progress marches, relentless stride, Cashless realm, where worlds collide, A future uncertain, a choice to make, Balance the scales for all our sake. In this cashless world, what do we find, Freedom's gain or control entwined? A question lingers, a society's plea, Is this the path, the one to decree?

Delighted to learn that there are options that are possible. I think many of us would be willing to participate in such a system. Please keep us informed, as new information is brought to your attention. I am sure that digital currency transactions are not the only way that purchases can be made. Fact: Bullion has never lost value in bad times. Everyone who had gold, silver, platinum and rare diamonds, rubies and sapphires all survived economic collapses as long as they could stay alive, those without such stores of wealth who survived had absolutely nothing to their name. Its about preservation of wealth (in secret) whilst hiding and surviving the dangerous collapse. Look at Venezuela - they have everything priced as X grams of gold and/or Y grams of silver. Basically they won't accept cash (as its worthless) and will only accept gold or silver by weight/value. This is why fractionality is essential. Silver is easiest to use in 1oz rounds (can be easily shaved to smaller amounts) and gold is easiest to use in 1 gram pieces (can be cut or shaved into smaller amounts). I would suggest do what they do in Venezuela - pay up front for only what you buy by using the exact required amount of gold or silver (small pieces and/or shavings). That way no one owes anything and you only have to carry tiny amounts at any time.

The idea is good. Unfortunately, there are flaws with this system. (1) Dishonest shopkeepers will accept as much credit as possible from their customers, and then suddenly close shop and disappear. (2) Shopkeepers will most likely be unable to pay their suppliers with that gold; the suppliers wouldn't be able to deposit the gold into their bank accounts, or, either the shopkeeper or supplier would have to go through the extra hassle of selling the gold to get the cash, digital or actual, to deposit into their banks.
@istudios225 Жыл бұрын
One gram of gold, the smallest denominator, is currently $84.56, still a lot if you just want to do some grocery shopping. And if your're going to a few shops, you'd have to carry several of these around with you, which might pose a safety risk. I've heard of people buying chains of pure gold, as in necklaces (very popular jewellery item in Asia), so they can use single chain links for payment. Chains come in all sizes, from large to tiny. Based on the weight of each link, you can pay for the goods with so many gold links. You'd still have to find shopkeepers who will accept gold pieces as payment, though.
@istudios225 Жыл бұрын
This can work if it is incorporated into a non-government, off-system PRIVATE bank or banker arrangement. Maybe like a Monopoly game banker. The customer goes to the private banker and exchanges his gold for cash (note that all cash will be withdrawn by the government eventually) or for another medium of exchange, e.g., tokens, perhaps similar to casino chips. The customer pays the shopkeeper in tokens. Then the shopkeeper goes back to the private banker and exchanges the tokens for either physical gold or for the private banker to deposit the value of those tokens into the shopkeeper's digital bank account. Under Common Law, this is lawful and fair, and perfectly within our rights to do. The government will try to make this illegal, of course, but we need to get it into our heads that their laws have NO jurisdiction over us and we must take back our birthrights, which we have been deceived into handing over to them.
@betkay1018 Жыл бұрын
This exchange process could also be extended by being given back change in a "gift card" system too, which would enable use at other stores/businesses being cash based and become a continuing growing model - almost like a co-operative approach !!

People just keep saying ' carry on using cash' as though that solves the problem. Not if traders and shops aren't able to accept it because they can't do anything with it - or be fined for accepting banknotes. Many of us are old enough to remember the early 70s when the government decided to change the entire currency (and the value of coins) without caring what the people thought. Remember the jobsworths who enforced to the letter the change in weights and measures to metric with the threat of prosecution for selling in pounds and ounces.

There does have to be trust, this is why a reputable mint will have many coins, all with unique markings, to a lesser extent the little bars, so while civilization exists there is an audit trail of quality and weight, so if its not damaged its more trustworthy, perhaps like another comment said, gold for savings, silver for trade as its a more hardy metal

Gold is not legal tender so shops are not obliged to accept it,also they would have to test the gold to see if it is 9 carat or 10,15,18,22 or 24 carat.They would have to buy an expensive machine to do that and they won't.

At the moment, I am in a bit of a transition. I think getting regular amounts of cash and using it with local stores. With some things on line, for smaller things, I have sent cash through the post. Not 100% secure, but so far no incidents at all. With that though, there has to be an address to send to. But I have had some written notes sent back thanking me for custom etc. which is nice and reminds me of the old days.. Maybe a reliable system can be set up that way? I get a bit confused about gold though and it seems that others are too, so I think perhaps more clarity is needed there. it has to be bought, but from where. But there again, I have not really looked into it enough. I think it all needs a lot of discussion and sharing of ideas. I don't pick things up so quickly as I used to 😀🙃

The change problem could be solved by using silver instead of gold, except for larger purchases. In the US, pre-1965 coins were 90% silver. A dime currently can be bought for $2, a quarter for $5, a half dollar for $10. Unfortunately our pre-1965 dollars sell at a much higher premium. But carrying around coins worth $2, 5, and 10 would make transacting easy and removes all worry about fraudulent receipts

My issue with most of these things is that it's being sold as "better" and possibly soon the ONLY way and older systems which have worked very well for many years (decades, centuries) are being phased out. What's wrong with making it additional? Keep all of the systems that we have and continue to improve them and new systems can be added as an alternative. Surely that would be customer-friendly, giving people the freedom to choose. Not all of the new ideas are terrible - but they should be simply an alternative. Humans like having freedoms and choice. Keeping the proven and working systems will also mean people get to keep their jobs. It's an ongoing project and I do often wonder what it will lead to.
