My only worry is that people in uk would look at them like Willy Wonka tokens. If there was a British theme instead of a US theme then I think Goldbacks would take off here too.

Yes it did, you could tell a genuine pound note by the strip imbedded in the cotton paper.

I think the idea was to then pass on each half to unsuspecting people, two pounds for one, rather than to extract the strip.

First step people should take is to begin the accumulation of physical gold and silver (as i have done) . When goldbacks are available to purchase locally, thats when the large bullion weights can be exchanged for the goldback equivalents. For example, i have 2.1 troy ounces of Gold (about 62ish grams) and roughly 2kg of silver. Where i am, that currently equates to $10,200 (and with the current rally, thats set to increase significantly, without exhanging any more of my fiat) But as it stands, i could potentially have $10,200 in goldbacks if/when a goldback office is set up in my country. To me its a total no-brainer

Sounds like a great idea, the only problem is that buying anything from the states usually has an expensive import tax & postage is expensive. The only other issue is that you would have to speak to businesses in your area that would take this type of currency otherwise all you can do is keep it as an investment & Safe have if the fiat system crashes

Advice from an experienced gold and silver stacker here in the UK, Gold and silver purchased from outside of the UK is held back by customs until the vat has been paid by you, A gold sovereign or britannia coin is vat and cgt exempt, as is used silver coinage (second hand britannias) when purchased here in the UK, Stackers used to rely heavily on silver bullion coins purchased directly from the European mints but since brexit this has sadly ended.

The best thing about gold is that the govt can't print it the way they do with fiat currency. Consequently it holds it's value. 1 GoldBack is about £1.55 at todays prices. A bit more practical than the 1/8th Sovereign I have. It weighs a gram, is about 1/4" wide (smaller than any circulation coin), and worth about £50 in bullion.

An interesting point that once again arises is, what is the medium of exchange that would be accepted for payment of these 'Goldbacks', and if it is cash and coin, or bank credit, why would they accept that for something that is intrinsically more valuable, permanent and can not be counterfeited. This reminds me of the 'Greenbacks', that Abraham Lincoln brought out, but weren't they ISSUED into circulation, by the government of the day ? Don't get me wrong, not having a PERMANENT money system is where part of our problem lies.

It is based on the gold price. So if gold goes up, Goldbacks go up. If it goes down, Goldbacks will go down. In 2019 when Goldbacks were released they were $2.25. Since then gold has gone up and now Goldbacks are $4

They actually will exchange you for it. It still is gold no matter what so if it’s damaged you can trade it for a new one. If it’s cut on the corner and missing a part of it I assume you can still do that and pay the small difference of the piece missing. All they do is melt it and make a new one.

The utility value for the Goldback is the premium and that premium stays with the Goldback. Feel free to try to take a gold coin of your choice and try to pay for a 4 dollar item by trying to flake off just enough gold to pay for it when the vendor most likely wouldn't accept that because they 1. Don't want tiny gold flakes, 2. Don't trust it, and 3, Have no ability to test it for authenticity. Or just pay for it with a Goldback note that has all of that tech already built in and is part of it's value. If I were a business owner I would take the Goldback every time. Just like when you go buy a new vehicle or whatever else you can think of you pay more for that item then it's junk or melt value precisely because it has utility value just like the Goldback has utility value. The only issue is coming to an agreement on what the exchange rate or the value really is. There is wiggle room there and just like the value of the dollar it ends up being what you and the business owner come to what you both agree on. Just like you try to buy things at the best price for you and buy at cheaper places or on sale the Goldback is no different. I find it absolutely hilarious that people question the value of gold that has been spread extremely thin by using lasers and vacuum chambers at the atomic level and sandwiched between two layers of durable polymer and is extremely attractive and has an actual value, yet when talking about the "value" of paper combined with cotton they don't question that whatsoever. We live in clown world.
