Apparently Avril died (suicide) 2003/2004 and this Melissa took over pretending to be Avril and still doing so. Tbf there are many weird goings on around that time from image to personality and voice changes. I just think she was forced by the record companies to commercialise herself, against her better nature. Inorder to reach a wider audience and make more money. Who knows though, I could be wrong.

For those asking who Melissa is, shes the body double that Avril used when she first got famous to manage the intense paparazzi and red carpet events. Avril had massive anxiety attacks. The theory is that Avril is not alive due to self harm or overdose and the music industry replaced her with her body double Melissa. But when asked face to face in an interview about it and giving her a chance to really break it down and show how silly it is, she laughs it off and acts super weird and disingenuous about it. It is right around 2012-2014 I worked for SoCal gas company as a Tech. We had a call about a gas odor in a building in Costa Mesa California. Its a Secure building but we have a special key that gives us access to all locked security gates. I got into the complex and was taking readings near the meters, when someone passed me by made some small talk and said they smelled a strange odor inside one of the buildings. I went into that building, again with our special key. And immediately smelled weed.. I laughed. I looked into a few rooms and it was some kind of recording studio. Figured I would walk through the building to the other side. I went down a hallway turned a corner then a door opened up on my right and a little girl stepped out and stopped dead, stood there like a deer caught in headlights. I recognized her instantly because my own daughter loved her music. It was...? ... IDK... because no sooner then I introduced my self as a SoCal Gas Tech looking for a Gas Leak, then a twin of her stood right next to her. The other girl then pulled her away from the door and a very large guy stepped out and became very aggressive, WTF are you, how the F did you get in this Building...get the F out of here... I told him who I was and that he had no authority to tell me to leave and that if he kept getting aggressive I would call the police to explain it to him. Another guy came to the door, 3 or 4 other people came to the door. I told them, I didnt need to go inside the rooms, the odor that was reported was not gas to my knowledge and another guy commented something like, "Yeah and we know a cop would agree its not a gas leak smell but they will come look inside here so why dont we let this guy be on his way" basically telling the other guys to close the door. So i can be yet another person to dog pile on this myth. If it wasn't Avril and Melissa.. they both have twin sisters in California as well who happen to hang around a recording studio in a secure building in Costa Mesa California.

I could care less about this theory & whether or not it's true. That said... it was not that she simply 'looked a bit different' that got people's attention. Regarding her face... it was things like scars moving or disappearing... not changes that come w growing up/ aging. Then it was the sudden & drastic change of style... from grungy/ punk attire to all dresses... all the time. Which happened to be the style choice of her stage 'double'. During the same time her voice & singing style was said to change... as well as her writing style & her performance style. Everything about her was different... close... but noticeably different to so many people. That, paired w her personal struggles/ mental health concerns is what sparked the theory & why it was so widespread and believed by so many. It's easy to debunk a thing or two... but when everything seems to be off, it becomes much more difficult to explain things away. Luminol doesn’t only react with blood. It reacts with other body fluids and oxidising agents like bleach also some vegetables. Investigators would swab the area and test that, I can’t remember what with, and that swab usually turns pink. Further tests determine if that blood is human.
