Hey guys, I decided to finally make the big jump and relax my hair for the first time after being natural for over 4 years! It's been quite a natural hair journey but I decided to perm my 4c natural hair. It was a rollercoaster of emotions but I made it happen

I'll be relaxing and coloring mine soon. I've been natural since 2013-2014. So about 9-10 years but I want something new and want to wear my natural hair without it reverting so quickly. I can't wait! I understand how hard it was for you,but I enjoyed watching. You looked amazing ❤

Coodos👏👏👍👍 to you!! I went back to the relaxer yesterday. For 9 years, I was natural. Im a fitness instructor and like to wear my hair in different styles. Being natural is not easy to maintain. I sweat profusely when I workout and my hair will b so hard to comb and manage. Even after I wash and condition. My gf told me dont do it cause of the"cancer scare". I went out on faith and put the relaxer in. O well. It looks and feels good. Thats all that matters!! And I hope the same 4 u💯

Awwww. I'm crying, Avri. I'm so sorry you had to go back there. I know how this battle goes. I hate twists etc in my own hair as well unless I have braids in. And I HATE sitting to get braids done. I'm going to message you on Instagram about an option that isn't so drastic but helps you with management and let's you wear your hair out and straight without completely destroying your bonds. You are beautiful no matter what and your straighter hair looks good too. Love you same way. ❤

I finally did it after contemplating for almost a year. Best decision ever. I have to go in and do a corrective relaxer in June but I’m still happy overall. People, do whatever you want with your hair; it's yours. However, I hate that we constantly give the impression that natural hair is "difficult". It's difficult when you don't take the time to learn how to care for or style it. The things that you will have to do to keep your relaxed hair healthy are not radically different from what you have to do to keep natural hair in the same condition.

I have been natural my whole life, I have mastered what to do with it… I personally find it time consuming. I relaxed my hair last month, I wash and deep condition it every week, and that’s it. I literally get out of the shower and go! I could never do this with my unrelaxed hair. I always had to do a wash the day before so that I can have time to change the style if it doesn’t go well. So, personally I found mine time consuming.

First! And more power to you. You look beautiful either way🙌🏾 I've been thinking about doing the same thing. But I'm leaning more towards a texturizer rather than a relaxer. I've struggled with my natural hair journey. The daily struggle to get it together before work 😮‍💨. Far too time consuming. And I'm with you on twist outs and braid outs. They're just not for me. Plus they don't last long. The creamy crack is calling me baaaaaack😩. You got this. Blessings Queen

It looks good, and it fits you. Our natural hair is definitely hard to manage day to day. I had a mini-revolt as a teenager and kept my hair natural for two years. Those two years were the most challenging hair years of my life. Salon services are expensive, but they usually ensure your hair is done well. Even the relaxing should be done in a salon. The chemical can damage your scalp. Blessings!🙏

@@jamaicanprincess4124 Washing it was easy! Do you prepare your hair for sleep at night? I have TIGHTLY curled hair and kept it natural during the afro days. I got my 4c hair relaxed back in December. I was going back and forth in my head for a month to decide wether I wanted to do it or not. I wish I had got my hair relaxed sooner. The only downside is that my hair is really really thin it always has been so that’s rather frustrating. I did buy some clip in extensions yesterday so it’s nice to have that option to thicken / lengthen my hair when I want. I can now wash & dry my hair without it taking hours it’s amazing! I brought the Dyson Airwrap & straightener and it’s deffo improved my wash day routine.

Unpopular opinion: Black women are more than their hair I feel like because we are trying to hold onto our “blackness” we are using our hair, but this hair is temporal, you could lose it, you could change it etc, I think hair should just be a way to express who we really are, if you are an adventurous person you automatically do different kinds of things, if you are laid back you will do things that would make it easier, instead of learning about hair, know yourself, do you genuinely want to be natural or you are being pressured etc

A little bit might get on your scalp as you go along but it doesn’t compare to actually putting it on your scalp at all

I'm happy to see more Black women freeing themselves from the backlash of being seen as less than or anti-black because they decide to chemically straighten their hair. I've been natural for 5 years and I will be getting a relaxer very soon. I am tired of struggling and being unhappy with my hair, and burying it under wigs, braids and weaves because the styles only last a day or two. Contrary to popular belief, I had healthy relaxed hair, which was much easier to manage and I can't wait to get my time back. Everyone has to do what's best for them and I applaud her for doing just that.

@@lindatoliver2267people often bring up cancer without saying the whole story. There is a 2% increase of cancer only with EXCESSIVE USE. This means you must relax your hair more than 6 times per year, every year for decades in order to increase your risk by 2%. The researchers also said that there is no definitive proof that relaxers cause cancer, so more research is needed. What is more likely to cause cancer is obesity, the food we eat , smoking, drinking and sedentary life. The black community should be more concerned about that. Too many people fear mongering

I started taking out my braids, combing out the hair, and then adding color at around 10 am one day, and at 5 or 6pm is when I finished after taking a break for lunch. Natural hair that is tightly coil is anything but low maintenance, which is why mine is mostly braided under a wig. I understand your struggle.

The hair stylist was not open minded or aware that there are many ways to not have to comb your natural hair daily or have to worry about having enough time for it like twists, braids (which can last for weeks), braids, flexy rods, twist outs can last for days, faux locs, box braids, high puffs, etc I keep my hair in twists mostly and I sometimes style them in different quick, hair styles and and yes Iive a soft life too! I don't like using combs or brushes and my hair leave in conditioner is your best friend!and it's 4c type hair also..plus i dye it blue and purple but only bleach once a year and trim every 6 months oh and silk pillowcases, and scarfs when sleeping and watery oils for the ends and scalp sorry I'm going on too much but lazy cute naturals exist if you know you know✨💙✨💜

I’ve been natural since 2020 when I finally got out high school I cut majority of my hair off because it never grew it’ll look crazy majority of the time because how short it became I couldn’t put it in the styles I wanted it to because I had flyaways so it took some years to take out the perm and get out of the transition phase but I’m over a year my grew back to where I can freely fit my hair into a ponytail or braids without having to deal with flyaways or hair that’s uneven but it’s been a struggle because I’m still trying to maximize the growth of my hair but I’m stuck at keeping the growth going so I’ve thought about getting sisterlocks which is pricey but at this point I feel like that’ll be the best option for me because I fix my hair everyday and sometimes I just don’t like the way it looks and I redo the same style I’m trying to achieve like 5 times until either I give up or I just leave the way it is and deal with it later that’s my current situation now

@@AvriSimas personally I do. I’ve been natural for 9 years. I was always trying new products to see what works best for my thick 4c hair 😭. Imagine the amount spent on products and time actually styling. For starter locs you use less products and it’s easier to get ready in the morning. I’ve also learnt how to re-retwist my locs now 🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

I love that you are happy with your results however I do I have to disagree with the comments on natural hair being a lot of work. It does not have to be a lot of work at all I love my natural hair and have never thought about relaxing it since cutting it off and I do not have to work hard to maintain it so your hair is what you make of it

There are hair straightening brushes that you can use, and it straightens your hair without perming it. I have been using this method so I can chose to wear it natural or straight

The only thing "difficult" about 4C hair - for me anyhow is washing it. Not difficult in that a PhD is needed. Just in terms of time and patience.

about YOUR 4C hair. Length density thickness and porosity play a role in how difficult to manage hair is.

I can feel your frustration 😩 I just wore wigs for years but I never really liked them and I was getting so sick of it. I had considered relaxing my hair for the last few years but last November I really started to do my research and look into it in more detail. I watched videos & done alot of Google searches to prepare myself. I got my hair relaxed in December and honestly it was the best thing I could have done for my hair ! Wash day is a breeze. Not more tangled shrivelled hair which takes ages to wash and dry. I feel like I can do so much more with my hair now 😊
