Great video, thank you. My illusions started to fade after my first major reconstructive surgery on both feet, in 1985, which I was honorably/ medically discharged from the U.S.M.C., 12 surgeries on both feet, 3 on my lower back, 21 head to toe later, my expectations from this body have lowered so much, I can't even begin to describe it. Amongst all those surgeries, I lost almost everything, career, house, heath, physical abilities, sanity, religion, friends, my wife, most of my possessions, my independence...and now I live with my mom and I'm only 55. So, if anyone needs to talk about pain, loss, depression, anxiety and suicidal thoughts, I am all ears, cause I have lived it half my life. Yet, I am very, thankful, grateful and blessed.

This is a very important message. As a long-time yogini (been practicing more than 30 years), I learned decades ago that, once we dedicate ourselves to spiritual awakening, the Shakti/Universe/God/Spirit will unearth and push out our samskaras - impressions that we have accumulated, not only in our childhoods of this lifetime but over many previous lives as well. This begins very soon after we declare that we are going to pursue spiritual awakening and knowledge; and it can be a terrible shock when it first comes up (hence the term "rude awakening"?). And a lot of it isn't SUBTLE, either! It's painfully confrontational! Many seekers I know have joked about wanting to shout at the Universe, "I take it back! I didn't mean it! I want to go back to blissful ignorance." When we made the decision to evolve spiritually, most of us only wanted the blissful, feel-good experiences that graced our first steps; and when the painful parts come up, we want to run away from the pain -- and the path! -- because it hurts like hell. I have never experienced any pain as intense and gripping as the existential despair and abject emptiness of spiritual depression and contraction. And the truth is, for me, once the genie is out of the bottle, it's too late! I CAN'T stop the process or take it back. It's like going over a waterfall - there is no way to reverse it and go back; once we take that leap, we can no longer hide from anything - we have to deal with it, heal it, and we have to ACCEPT ALL of it and take the bitter with the better; we have to make room for both sides of the polarity of human life - otherwise, we will get nowhere on the path. I am in treatment for Complex PTSD, and I need that help in order to clear some of this out - some of what happened to me in this lifetime alone makes it impossible for me to heal the trauma on my own. I'm getting a lot of help - regular psychotherapy, an EMDR therapist, and a Reiki healer. I need all 3 to help me navigate this pain and come to terms with what happened to me. And I continue with my meditation and contemplation. And the biggest thing that keeps me going is the fact that I asked for it in the first place by declaring my commitment to spiritual evolution. Also, as I told my therapist today, this suffering won't last forever; it is just one part of the journey; I won't always feel this way. I'll integrate it, and it will become a part of the whole of my personality, my walk with God, and my journey of living this life.
@danielr35223 жыл бұрын
I can relate to this so much (particularly that bit about wanting to shout at the universe that you take it back - oh, I've been there, many times! xD), and I agree with everything you said. How spiritual it is to be open to the universe and all of the emotions that we feel. Suffering is a great teacher. We learn about ourselves and others. We build muscles we never knew we had. We heal long ago pain. When we do that, new suffering is either eliminated, or lessened, because we have taught ourselves how to handle it better. The reward IS empathy. Growth. Enlightenment. I can't think of anything more spiritual than that.

I awakened, looked around, and decided to go back to sleep! Seriously I really relate to your experience and realize spiritual concepts are idealistic as we interpret them & the truth is we just don’t have enough control over our body/mind to be consistently peaceful,positive, etc. l like the idea of learning to suffer without worsening it. Great stuff, Bro.!
@Darima23 жыл бұрын
I relate to this so much 🙏🏻. I had the dark night of the soul, actually 2 nights, when 20 years of suffering all bubbled up to the surface in one big initial purging, an emotional breakdown I guess. The suffering was mainly due to self-beliefs that I had been conditioned to believe by very flawed family members/culture/religion though I always knew deep down they weren't true. That dissonance created the suffering and held me back and impacted my life in many ways. Also never having my emotional experience or I as an individual recognized, heard, appreciated as a being unto her own made me not believe and ignore my ultra strong intuition. Once I woke up to this, it was like everything I had been taught was a lie and therefore it felt like my whole life was a lie. It was a very, very dark time that started as deep sadness, hurt, pain, then the anger and rage at realizing you had been duped, manipulated, controlled. It then continued on as a deep depression, then turned into neutral numb until one day about 6 weeks later I felt a lifting. I felt hopeful, I felt lighter, I felt proud that I had come out of it in 1 piece, I felt even stronger . I thought that's it, I'm done with suffering I'm good now. Wroooooong 😅. I've since had periods of spiritual bliss interspersed with periods of some new suffering that I guess had been hiding in the deepest recesses of my soul. At first I was very dismayed and angry I was still suffering and was trying to resist because I thought Wait I went through the purge already, why is this still happening?? I've realized since that, like you said, the spiritual journey is not without suffering. In fact the suffering seems to be the catalyst for achieving deeper levels of understanding and a deeper sense of self. Thank you for this🙏🏻

It’s definitely best to just rest in it and process everything in a healthy manner, seeking help when necessary. Thank you for this powerful information. ❤️

I believe that Sadhguru has said that suffering was optional but I don't agree because If you resist It or ignore It you can't never heal and grow and mature. It's important to be composed but not to deny the suffering. I tried anyway to convince myself with the option of not suffering but finally I burst into sobs and gasped because I needed to purge my human soul. It's essential to not stifle emotions when they surface because anyway one day or another they will resurface as long as you don't receive them like a signal. And yes I agree, listening to others suffering is always an opportunity to be less self-centered and self-absorbed as long as people don't siphon your energy no problem
@davidscher16203 жыл бұрын
Maybe it was his opinion that suffering is optional if you view it as suffering. Just like failure... It can lead you to success. Suffering can lead to happiness in the same way. The only difference is the person and the way they perceive the word and how they apply it to their life.

Even our hopes for the future function as a means of escaping the pain we carry, but that identity we project in to the future is just the ego self holding on in the hope that someday it'll succeed. It's the persona we wish to embody. I think surrender is, at least in part, letting that part of ourselves die so that we can open ourselves to the unconscious, and allow our deeper potential to emerge. Typically we access spiritual energies in our projections, like that vitality we feel when falling in love and experiencing that inner opposite in another person, but I feel like I have to let go of it all, and have faith in that process. I just can't keep trying to be who I want to be, I've failed too many times and now it's too painful. I'm too burnt out emotionally to keep up the projections that keep that identity alive. It feels like there's no place in this world for an identity with such deep emotional experiences, so I have to access the potent energies of the psyche on my own, and channel them in to something more, something creative, or I can't see how I'll survive. I can feel a part of myself dying, that idealistic child in me, and it's terrifying. Like there's no ground beneath my feet, no branch to cling to, and no where to turn. I'm eternally grateful that enough has been revealed to me that I can recognize the transformative nature of this experience, and bear it, because I honestly think this is the kind of experience where people lose their will to live.

I always appreciate your sharing - it is affirming and helpful! Re Compassion: seems to me, the more we learn to have compassion to our own suffering, the better we are able to have compassion for other's suffering and possibly even assist in a healthier way. Seems to me, like you said: we need to first accept our suffering (without judgment) - just allow it to be. That way, our suffering will reveal what is underneath it. ...and when that happens, then we can transform it. What maybe easier, possibly, is if one was doing this work either with a partner who is doing it as well, or in a community striving towards liberation. I am not sure about that but wonder if that is true. Thank you so much for these sharings, awarenesses and insights.

Another wonderful insight thank you so very much. A deep healing insight that came to me around suffering and compassion - is by saying a no to abuse from others. By seeing their abusive behaviour comes from their suffering - I can move away, create a healthy space and hold compassion for my own feelings and experience and theirs. Without feeling responsible or needing to fix the other. This deepening and firming of healthy loving kind wise boundaries is allowing me to be compassionate again. Hope this makes sense. I’ still working through it. Sending blessings and appreciation for all you share and your own journey

I’m Glad that you have finally found the true meaning of suffering . The more you overcome your suffering ,the more love is built around it. Little did we know that the scars in life , are there as our mentor . We live it , we breathe it , we experience it & we learn to overcome it . Life without scars is like life without meaning .

„The only way out is through“. This is so true. The more we focus on pain the more we will feel it. If we accept it as it is and greet it with a smile it becomes less powerful.

Your words " shared human experience " really hit me. My husband lets things build and build until he explodes . I refuse , at this point in our lives ( 50 yrs. married ), to engage anymore in the shouting match . I listen , but to be honest I am critical as I listen, thinking that his past wasn't nearly as hard as mine , so what does he have to complain about ? I don't want to be compassionate. As you can see, I have a long way to go, but this talk is a helpful , healing balm, as are your many other talks. Thank you from the bottom of my heart .

Would like to know your thoughts about psychological suffering manifesting as illness within the body. Thank you for this video and taking the time to enlighten others. So many these days refuse to acknowledge suffering as an important lesson.
